Entry level? This is one of GMs premium brands. Not really an “entry level”. This is definitely upmarket for GM. Not quite in Cadillac land but not down with Chevrolet.

Yes yes yes yes yes. Everything you described at the end is exactly who i am. Fashionable but not need to break the bank super cool tech and still cares about the environment with the space and ride height for dirt road living. Thank you buick for listening to the people. I’m definitely going to test drive this. 🤑 VW might have just lost me.

These look great! Great job Buick! Everyone seems to be questioning the three cylinder, but by the end of the review they seem to compliment it because of that torque that it puts out.

I don’t get why people are complaining about the lack of a rear wiper. It’s a fastback, so the rear window isn’t vertical as in most SUVs. The wind will naturally expel water as in any sedan.

The 3-cylinder actually has a raspy note - sounding "sportier" (if that's the goal) than many 4-cylinders. Sure it's not FAST ... but it gives the driver a sense that it's working - not just buzzing. The engine actually comes in a 1.5L in other markets - let's see if they come out with a GX version with a 170hp, or something next year. For my commute, this would be a definite upgrade if I want to stick with a US -branded- vehicle and don't care about adding to my previous collection of speeding tickets - many of which were acquired in much lesser vehicles.

It gets the same MPG as my 2013 Ford Focus ST with over 100 less horsepower. Not sure what you're talking about when you say it's efficient. Throw it out!

I don’t care what seemingly everyone used to supposedly think of the pre-Lacrosse Buicks, but I miss them. I wish I could buy a new Park Avenue or Regal (or Riviera) with a 3800 series. Pair it to a battery... I don’t care. Just bring it back: a good, super comfortable, actually premium-feeling, efficient yet secretly powerful car.

Yes indeed GAS ENGINES are getting smarter & more efficient indeed! Like she says let's not throw them away just yet! The technology & infrastructure with charging in parrticular for EVs is still sketchy? Going green, in my opinion, has become quite political! I am very impressed with Buick's contribution here with such a sporty car coupled with a very palatable low starting price! Thank you Buick & GM of South Korea indeed!

I work from home so its changed my options for my next car. I used to steer away from GM due to uncertain reliability and longevity (though I've read Buick last longer than other GM brands). But now that I only drive maybe 5k miles per year, I'm open to something that offers comfort/style at a lower price point, as now almost anything wilL last me a long time given how little I drive.

This car is genuinely nice and competitively priced. The fact that it carries the Buick name will hurt its sales. The brand has very little appeal to young buyers. Hopefully it’s a step in the right direction for Buick overall, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Interesting that you would say that, because I've actually seen a lot of younger buyers in a lot of newer Buicks. People who know about the brand and are snobs about brand image might care, but that number is really small compared to the actual amount of people they're trying to sell this to. And Buick sales figures in recent years have shown that whatever they're doing to tailor to the younger market is working because a lot of new Buicks are actually being sold to younger buyers. So I really don't think that theory will hold up too long. Things are turning around for the brand here.

21 here, Buick is by far my favorite of GM's brands. Strikes a nice balance between comically cost-cut Chevy and mildly-gaudy Cadillacs.

Buick is actually the oldest _existing_ US car company (not only in the US, but in the world). Buick is the company from which GM evolved - it's founder was born in Scotland and the brand has a decent racing history as well. They were one of the first companies to have their motors used in mid-engine La Mans cars (predating Porsche, Ford and Ferrari). The 80's and 90's didn't do the brand any favors, but the new styling (thanks to Asian markets) is headed in the right direction. Buick has never capitalized on its history - and they really should. Full disclosure - Buick Regal TourX owner here :) ... and "Ja ja", I know it's built in Germany.

Great review, Lynn! Interesting car! It has to be said that Buick wouldn't be around anymore if it weren't for China, where the large majority of its cars are sold, including China-only models, like a smaller van ( GL6 ) and a full-size van, the GL8!

My wife's 4000lb awd 200+hp Rav4 regularly gets 32mpg in mixed driving. Granted it's more expensive and pretty bland but you know it's a better vehicle with more space, reliability,and resale value. There's no reason to buy the Buick when you can buy a certified used fwd Rav4 for similar money that barely broken in.

Lyn is reviewing another Buick crossover that starts with the letter “E”. Buick’s lineup: Envista, Encore GX, Envision, Enclave. Lyn has said in her reviews that if Buick did name another crossover by the letter E, it would be called “Enough.”

Very good looking. The last 20 years of basically 5 vehicle colors...white, silver, gray, black and metallic. Buick should drop metallic paints and add cream type colors like Subaru and Ford Maverick.

The Envista is in a class below the CX-30, and it is also in a class of its own (the only premium cuv among the Trax, Soul, and Venue). The Encore GX is the competitor to the CX-30, but the value proposition diminishes when I select the Avenir trim.

CX-30 with th ugly overkill black cladding is not superior to body color matched Buick and the powertran is a far better match in the CX-5. Also, to get an Avenir level of interior in a Mazda, you have to get a CX-90 in an upper S trim level.

My concern is that 3 cylinder turbo charged engine. Longevity is my concern, could i get 100K miles??? Only time will tell, I fear when you turbo a small engine thats the recipe for disaster??

the 1.4L three cylinder that came in the buick encore has been a complete disaster in terms of reliability. turbos that need replacement after 50k miles is not uncommon. not expecting much better with this.

I would 100% choose this over the new Chevy Trax, but with that weak engine, I wouldn't choose either one. I'm not looking for performance, but I'd like something a little quicker than the 2000 Subaru Legacy that I had for over a decade.

Agree, they should have put the Verano 4 cylinder in it. Three cylinders no thanks. Also, some don't need or desire a turbo. The instrument cluster doesn't even match that of a Seltos. No rear vents??? The armrest blending up into the door panel also looks cheap. I know there's a price point to meet, but this is made in Korea, Kia does it better and so could Buick. It really is a nice looking vehicle, but needs improvement.

Buick was dangerously close to making the perfect car in the early 2000s. My Lesabre is 200 inches long; big engine bay, big interior, big trunk, yet not too unwieldy. It had air compressed rear shocks and also had probably the best V6 ever made by an American company. There are very few cars that can ride so smooth, handle decently well, have decent power, and get 30mpg on the highway. The Lesabre was America's best selling full size car for 8 years in a row when it was discontinued. Makes you wonder why they got rid of it, but I'm sure we know why they really did....

Thought this was going to be more expensive than it is. It's a great package. A risk over buying an HR-V or a Seltos for sure but it does seem a level above in many ways.

The Envista does quite look similar to the Haval H6 Sport which is manufactured in China. SAIC-GM announced the release of this vehicle in the Chinese market of August last year. I’m not surprised, the front design favors many Chinese crossovers I know of. 80% of Buick sales are now made up in China. American automakers could bring more of their vehicles from China into the United States.

I’ll be honest. Probably the first time people my age will find a Buick worth looking at. But I think they should’ve put padding on the upper door rest as opposed to the dashboard. If it isn’t driving for us we still are more likely to rest the elbows. And most cheap cars will do padding for the elbows and remove padding on the dash, it’s just weird they didn’t think to give that instead. No average consumer complains about padding not being on the dash but they do complain about lack of padding where they rest their arms

They put the rear turn signals and brake lights at the bottom corners of the bumper, that's probably not going to work very well in the states that get snow.

What's up with that engine. You will never convince me that these souped up tiny engines are a good idea. I can't imagine a regular 4 cylinder engine being that much more money. And, it would be way more reliable.

Buick should have used a supercharger and not a turbocharger with that 3 cyc engine, That vehicle will role backwards on just a 30deg slope which is a bad thing. One option would have been to use a V4 engine and give the options to be turbo charged or supercharged. Its sad that Buick stopped making cars for the USA marker and makes them for the Asian and European markets.

This is the replacement for the Buick Encore and this is 11 in longer than what it's replacing. If you want anything bigger, simply just opt for their other options

Styling & price are the "2 winners" here regarding the ALL-NEW 2024 Buick Envista! I am a Dodge man but this Buick is compelling indeed! The 3 cylinder 1.2 Liter GDI Turbocharged engine concerns me a bit! LSPI is the acronym for LOW SPEED PRE-IGNITION! Is this engine a candidate for LSPI?
