McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris delighted the home crowd by being quickest on both light fuel and heavy on Silverstone Friday. His team-mate, Oscar Piastri, underlined the pace of the orange cars, with the Red Bull-Hondas of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez a shade away - particularly on the long runs. Mercedes and Ferrari seem to be closely-matched, and there could well be starring support roles from Haas and Aston Martin. Peter Windsor in this video separates the gusts from the cross-winds by looking at the general trends of the cars on both light and heavy fuel - and the trap speeds in both guises.

Jenson Button did, too. It was great racing last week. Sky and the rest failed to see Lando's obvious mistakes. He was much too desperate to get past Max Verstappen. For me, Verstappen's defence was perfectly fine. It was good proper hard racing.

Is it too late to scrap the '26 aero changes? It is becoming more and more clear by the race that the field is coming together nicely. The difference between RB/McLaren/Merc/Ferrari isn't very much. In '26 it is likely this is all blown apart and some team finds a loophole with "creative" interpretation of the rules and ends up a good distance ahead of the field.

A perfect example of why the 3 practice sessions needs to be replaced with the sprint race. @phillipbones. No disrespect intended but your post is a perfect example why F1 probably isn’t the sport for you. F1 isn’t about the drivers it’s a constructors series where designers and engineers need practice sessions to optimise the setup of their cars for Saturday qualifying and the race on Sunday. There are tons of other series that cater to close driving such as F2 that is supposedly a spec series but even that shows what happens sometimes when a team is unable to setup the car (Bearman and Antonelli in this years Prema being an example of this).

I can't help but think that Stroll is an Albatross and that the car has been made easier to drive for him at the expense of Alonso speed. Newey knows this and thus will never go to Aston. I don't think teams sufficiently weight the importance of both drivers style requirements. Making the car easier to drive for Michael Schumacher was not important to him if it did not make the car faster. You can't have two drivers taking car development in two directions. I am guessing that Lewis and Charles will like the same things and Newey will want to work with the two of them together.

@@mrRTvids oh dear, I’m not sure you understand how F1 works. The 6 teams based in the UK are there because of the pool of engineering talent in that country. Regarding Andretti (what that has to do with where F1 cars are designed and built baffles me) but the FIA merely administers the sport (they actually passed Andrettis compliance application). I think the stakeholders you are looking for who blocked the Andretti bid are in fact; 1: the commercial rights holder Liberty Media/Formula One Management (American owned) and 2: the F1 teams themselves. Just focussing on the 6 teams based in the UK - McLaren is owned by a Bahrainian consortium, Mercedes is part German, part Austrian owned, Red Bull is Austrian owned, Alpine is French owned, Aston Martin is Canadian owned and Williams is American owned. In short if you want to understand which nations actually blocked Andretti you’ll need to blame the Germans, French, Austrians, Bahrainis, Canadians and Americans. You’ll notice no “Brit bias” in that decision. No, the simple answer as to why there are so many Brits in F1 is like Italy it’s a centre for motorsport engineering talent and a strong culture of racing in many series from karting up to Formula 1.
@mrRTvids
@mrRTvids 4 күн бұрын
@@sultanoftippoo3857 You can save your lecture. I said nothing about brit bias being in the F1 monopoly decision making. Where are you getting that from? F1 as a business has their own decisions and teams have their own decisions related to drivers. My point being, im sure there are more opportunities for drivers to reach F1 starting in britain, for all the different factors, including history. But there are many talented drivers from other nations sitting as reserve drivers or in other categories who should be in F1.
@sultanoftippoo3857
@sultanoftippoo3857 4 күн бұрын
@@mrRTvids Sorry I offended you using facts and logic but you were the one that brought Andretti into the conversation 😂 You still don’t get it do you? Many drivers from other nations come to Britain in their early years to gain experience in lower formulae after graduating from their local karting leagues (Formula Ford, etc). All those drivers whether they be British or wherever they come from (if they are good enough) get picked up by Driver Academies (Red Bull, Mercedes, Williams, Ferrari etc) and are groomed through formulae like F3 & F2. Those drivers then hope they will get an F1 drive if they have matured sufficiently (Bearman British - Ferrari academy) and (Antonelli Italian - Mercedes academy) are the two graduates likely to have a career in F1 in 2025 and beyond. Now who are the stakeholders who make these decisions, a bunch of anonymous biased Brits or team principals like Toto Woolf (Austrian) in a German/Austrian owned team and Fred Vasseur (French) in an Italian owned team? I can see your frustration but there is no conspiracy going on here. You might not like the British, or that they have so much presence in F1 but it’s been like that for the past 70 years. You can either accept it and enjoy the sport for what it is or be eaten up with nationalism and xenophobia every weekend. Your choice, I really don’t care.
