The prices recently came out in Canada and was quite a lot lower than expecting super happy with that and it falls in federal government rebates for all trims, so $5000CAD off. Was not expecting that.

Its not too expensive, its just that most people are not getting richer (myself included) so therefore it is "too expensive". A lot of people can still afford this. Most people also cant afford a new Landcruiser. The expensive EV9 came out first, to capitalise. Waiting for the EV3. I'm sure that will also be expensive, but much less so.

ANY Kia that is $100,000 is INSANE!..I mean, Kia built itself to where it is by offering vehicles for less than $20,000 when almost nobody else was doing so..they established themselves as, and are, an "economy" brand..now they think their vehicles are worth $50,000-$100,000?..just nuts...

In Quebec/Canada, the Awd 99kwh version is only 64900$ CAD , which mean it qualify for the 12 000$ federal and provincial incentive. That mean we can get it for 53000$ CAD ! Tesla Model Y AWD is for us 70k, and only qualify for 5000$ incentive, so the EV9 awd is 12 000$ cheaper than Model Y. Incredible value!!

I preordered one but idk if I’m going through with it. It’s so hard to say yes to when I can get the model y for way less and still get a tax credit. The reason why the mid tear isn’t good is due to towing being 1k instead of 5k lbs if you ever want to tow some boats or really anything other than bikes and ski equipment you need to upgrade to the get line

land cruiser is a purpose built vehicle....the kia ev9 is a family hauler. comparing a "budget brand" to a volvo isnt the same either its a big brick, highway range will be awful (like any vehicle of this type would gas or EV), and we all know third party charging network sucks. 260 miles on WLTP means that thing will get EPA of 220. (or 308 larger pack, prob 250 EPA) ill assume this battery is 10-80% for longevity, which means about 180-200 for small battery and 190-215 for larger battery as "usable" range. a fully loaded hyundai palasade is $53,000 and would cost about $60 to fill up at $3.50 a gallon and get over 420 miles of range. at 35cent per kwh to charge at a public charger to charge 80kwh would cost $28, could be more depending on the charger, time of day, location etc and thats assuming you can get a working third party charger. at 16c kwh (example home) would cost $13 per 80kw charged. (80kw used assuming larger pack and its 80% of the total pack) assuming 80kwh here. if range is say 200 average at the 80%, thats less than half of the palisades range on gas. if $60 above example fills it up from 2 gallons remaining to full, you are getting approx 420 miles (it advertises nearly 470 so im low balling it) and this ev is 200 range in this example, you will need to fill up the battery 2x. at the public charger example above, thats $56, or at home $26 for 400 miles of range. people with SUVs like this may opt for road trips due to space and family more than a tesla model 3, toyota camry, etc. there is ZERO benefit to buy this thing at all in my opinion based on the cost to operate, cost to buy, and the extreme lack of any savings. even with 3 oil changes a year at the dealer for $75 each. face the facts viking....EVs for large vehicles do not work when you apply common sense and the economics of them. EVs are best suited for basic commuter cars like smaller crossovers and sedans where the costs are reasonable, efficient and do actually offer cost benefits for some people. oh yea, and a land cruiser being a land cruiser, and a toyota will still hold its value far better. 20 year old land cruisers go for big bucks.

Tesla Model X is no longer available in Australia, RHD has been discontinued.. People who had them on order had their orders cancelled. Rivian also isn't available here and will be twice as expensive when/if it does ship die to Australian car taxes. Polestar 3 is a 5 seater, about $15k more and not available until mid-2024. Volvo EX90 is almost as big as the Kia, but is 12 months away and will cost more than the Kia. BMW iX is a 5-seater and about $50k more than the Kia. There's literally ZERO alternatives if you want a 7-seat EV, and the BMW is the only other EV you can actually *buy* with a 2,500kg tow rating.

I know think if Tesla uses a 1k - 800v architecture and a split level battery pack so it can also charge at 400v then Tesla will be able to reach it 500mile range target for it's Cybertruck long range trim. They are starting to roll out their V4 Superchargers which also will need to charge Semi's in the long run and also their vans when they get around to building them and before that their Roadster 2.0. Note I think Elon or I hope Elon reveals the roadster but the production ready final version at the Cybertruck delivery event. This should have the high voltage battery pack architecture which should also be cell to pack architecture as well using 4680's. Given that the 4680 will be ramping over the next 18-months I think Cybertruck + Semi + Roadster 2.0 will consume as much as they can produce.

Being the same size as a Land Cruiser does not make them comparable. A Land Cruiser is a body on frame real off road capable car whereas the EV9 is not. The Land Cruiser is a legend in durability and dependability that takes years to develop and unfortunately Kia may be very good but still do not command that reputation: and that is worth a lot. Also, even Kia's own 3 row SUV's in the US are 30% less expensive.

Whatever the current rate of depreciation of the Land Cruiser happens to be it will depend on a) the state of competition coming from other manufacturers supplying vehicles in the same category b) constraints on the supply of Land Cruisers c) the level of demand for that vehicle in the used and new vehicle markets and d) the popularity and condition of similar second hand vehicles available in the market that are made by other manufacturers. When Kia introduces the EV9 that might have an effect on any or all of those factors so don't imagine that the slow depreciation of new model Land Cruisers that we see today will necessarily remain like that into the distant future. If people like the EV9 and it gets supplied in limited numbers then its value in the used vehicle market should hold up too. As it happens Land Cruisers are in short supply relative to demand, in Australia and elsewhere. And, Toyota seems to be happy with that sutuation. The premium SUV market is a high margin market for Toyota with customers willing to pay a steep price for the vehicle. The short supply situation explains the high used vehicle prices as well. Personally, I think $100,000 is a rip off new or used. And, some degree of depreciation is to be expected in markets that are adequately supplied.
@i6power30
@i6power30 9 ай бұрын
@@chris27gea58 depreciation also depends on reliability and longevity of vehicle. Even mass produced vehicles like Camry and RAV4 hold up value better than EVs because they cost less to maintain and repair. Buyers of used vehicles have to consider how much is it going to cost me to fix it if something goes wrong. The sad thing about the current EV designs are focused on high tech and flashy gimmicks that will either break or be obsolete in a few years. Not to mention in a few years a brand new battery design might make the current batteries obsolete and depreciate current EVs also. Owning an out of warranty EV is a gamble. Owning an out of warranty Land cruiser or even RAV4 you can sleep well at night.

Most high priced cars depreciate a lot in the first few years, due to GST, luxury car tax and the fact that many people in this price bracket either lease through a business or are prepared to pay a high margin for new. Indeed, I have purchased several used premium Mercedes and BMWs cars over the years, each of them 30-40% depreciated from new after only two years. None of them EVs.

They're onboard charger sounds good but the overall range is horrible for that sized vehicle, no one with a family will ever see that range (I think it said 280 miles for 4WD) due to the extra weight (pretty darn sure they don't take into account the weight of the passengers when they do those tests...as well as the range loss above 70 MPH) They're using old battery tech and that's just sad...going to have to wait for the next gen, blehhh
