I live in West Africa where we have regular fuel shortages, so the hybrid engine is a real game changer for us. Toyota reliability coupled with fuel efficiency is an incredible combination.

IT'S A TOUGH DECISION. LC @ $70k but Toyota dealers insist on $10k markup so $80k more likely. GX is $72k but no markups and 4 year warranty. LC looks better to me but dealers are ruining it again.

Nobody complains about the 6 cylinder in a 911 because you can get an 8 cylinder in a Corvette, a 12 cylinder in a Ferrari, etc. I don’t know why this should be different. The 4 cylinder makes plenty of power. We’re not talking about a 1985 Honda 4 banger. Times have changed.

@@dnovello i know but just because you don't have the successor doesn't mean you should call the 250 the successor. I fear the way most people in the NA market keep comparing it to the 200 is going to result in a lot of false expectations that could damage the LC name and sales for tbe NA market. For one the whole 4 cyl thing is being compared to the 200s V8 which makes it look like such a drastic change when in fact globally the previous LC150 Prado has always been a 4cyl vehicle, granted it also had the 4.0 V6 as an option. So it's really nothing to be compared to the 200 series at all as it comes from a completely different target point from the moment toyota created the prado line out of the 70 series landcruisers.

Thanks for the comparo, and it makes sense. Toyota has been making hybrids forever, so the 8-speed trans mated to the hybrid probably is better for daily driving - more torque on the low end, better gas mileage, etc. While many folks might be more comfortable with the twin turbo V6 I'm not sure why - will it be more reliable than the hybrid setup? Maybe - the battery on the hybrid will take some pressure off the small 4cyl, so it might be very similar in reliability while providing much better fuel economy.

People say they'd take the V6 over the I4. I don't think it's that simple. This specific V6, V35A-FTS seems to have a problem with eating main bearings. And the I4, at least so far, doesn't show the same issue. Either way... Toyota no longer gets a pass on first model years. They're the same as others. I suspect there will be some issues to work out.

My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV. Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered. Pros: * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC. * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable. * Cons: * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system. * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience. * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years. * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality. * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels. * Leather quality across all trims is subpar. * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg. * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience. * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power. * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLOqd5qfsbfQdI0.html I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities. Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed. It appears that KZfaq influencers may be sponsored by Toyota and Lexus, with many Toyota dealers hyping these vehicles on social media to attract buyers. This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline. Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology. At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough. Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, many individuals are compensated for endorsing Toyota and Lexus brands, and I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles. In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase

Ground clearance is not good and all other off road angles are mediocre at best. Reliability... I will let other people test it first. So far Tundra is having a lot of issues and Tacoma might be in the same boat (I did have a fair share of issues on my 2018 Tacoma). Once my wife needs a new vehicle we will most likely go with Lexus. For some reason Lexus dealer can sell me overtrail model for MSRP ($70k) but Toyota dealer is adding 5k+ ADM in case I want Land Cruiser (which I do not). Land Cruiser is comparable price to Lexus. What is the point? I do lots of off-roading in the winter and I do not think the new Land Curser would be as good as 4Runner or even Lexus. Anyway I am not sure if I will be going back to Toyota any time soon myself. My wife might get Lexus as I said but we will see.

I'd go Lexus, though I'm seriously considering both - the price difference isn't much between an Overtrail and a similarly-equipped Land Cruiser. One nice thing in the Lex's favor is that all the warranties are a bit longer, by 1 year or 12k miles - basic warranty, powertrain, corrosion. Some extra peace of mind.

It's also more expensive to own. People don't mention it for some reason, but the GX requires premium gas, the LC does not. Add that to the typically higher insurance premium for a Lexus, and whatever you gained from the longer warranty goes away and then some.

How much better is the ride of the Land Cruiser/ GX 550 vs a Jeep Wrangler JL? Since if I ever got something else instead of my wrangler

@@crushbaseball4270 simply way better lol! I may be biased b/c I have one as a DD, but you’d be hard pressed to find an “off road” type vehicle w/ better ride on road than an F150 Raptor…in fact in terms of ride comfort you’d be hard pressed to find ANY vehicle w/ a more cushy/smooth ride than a Raptor

I'd rather have the Land Cruiser. I've owned a BMW 3 Series, BMW X5 and Lexus GS350 and all that luxury isn't worth the price. I now drive a 2023 Toyota Camry SE. Trust me, a Land Cruiser is just as comfortable as a GX550. All that luxury is strictly visual. Once you turn on the AC, it's all the same comfort. All that luxury options is a waste of money. Driving a Camry compared to my BMW's and Lexus is much more stress free. I don't need to baby the Camry. It saves money on gas and its cheap to maintain. The best of all, I have a robust emergency fund by downsizing to a practical car. I am over luxury.

How do they compared to a Gx 460 - ride quality, acceleration etc? 460 more of a known quantity to many of us.

I just don’t see a Toyota being so expensive. The new Land Cruiser is just way to overpriced compared to the Original Model. Also a lot smaller. Toyota target audience is adorable, and reliability focused. Not 78k starting and msrp from dealers are at lease 15k more.

The last LC200 sold in the US cost over $80k. The Prado LC250 has never been sold in North America so what's your point again?

If you need it for 5 years or less, either one is fine. If you plan to keep it 10+ years, go with GX460 or 4Runner NA no turbo trucks

You act like turbos are some new technology… turbo engines can be very reliable
@TheWinwin4all
@TheWinwin4all 12 күн бұрын
@JStryker7 not new, and Toyota have a good turbos in their vehicles, but. It is still all wheel drive 3 tonn truck but with smaller 3.5L engine in it. The amount of energy needed to move the truck has to be higher compared to the older V8 4.6L, meaning that everything has to be working harder and faster, even the AWD components will be wearing off faster. You don't need to be an engineer to understand this. With a global agenda to make things last less, people would be buying things more often , I really think that Toyota is moving in that direction as well, and new cars have shorter life cycle compared to the other ones.
