Purdue came up short against a dominant UConn Huskies team in the 2024 national Championship game. Here is what Matt Painter, Zach Edey, & Co. had to say in the postgame.

As a Nebraska fan, I, along with a sports bar of 200 people in Lincoln, was cheering for our B1G friends tonight. On behalf of Husker Nation, I congratulate Purdue for an INCREDIBLE season and commend this team for the high bar it set for greatness within our conference and the country at large. This Boilermaker team was so fun to follow and watch, especially this postseason: great personalities, legendary talent, and head-spinning plays. I’ve nothing but respect for the Purdue men’s basketball team, coaches, and fanbase. Class acts all around! #BoilerUp #B1G #WayToRep

Zach Edy is a strong young man. I mean mentally. All the physical beatings. All the opposing fans hate. Social media hatred and nasty comments. AND YET, He never complained. He never talked crap, or made excuses. And tonight he played his heart out and his teammates were not sharp tonight. And what does he say? "I had stretches where I didn't do well enough, and that was the game." What a classy guy! So proud of him, Braden, and Purdue. Zach, thanks for the incredible ride!!

@@phillipdunn419 At no point did I say he couldn't handle the physical part of the game. Just the opposite, in fact. He has scars all over his body and never says a word. But, thanks for being THAT GUY on every thread with a negative comment. 🙄

Yes he did. The first thing he said after beating UT was that Rick Barnes passed him up and now he has time to reflect about that since he got bounced. He complained about the NIL rules too. Look, Edey gave it his all… no doubt. But he certainly had some complaints along the way. The two I reference are recent examples of that.

UConn fan here, great season by your Purdue Boilermakers. If they hadn't been playing vs. UConn I would have rooted for them for sure. This was the match up I think the entire country wanted to see all season and I'm glad we got it. Often times the two best teams in the country don't make it to the championship game. UConn was just overall the better team and had the right game plan tonight. No shame in that. Once he bulks up a bit and gets into a pro program Zach Edey is going to be a good NBA player.

What sucks is there are sooooo many other seasons where this team would've been the national champs. UCONN was just that much better than any other team in the country. It does suck to get this far and lose, but I'm trying not to let this loss take away from the best Purdue basketball season I've ever seen. After the 2019 heartbreak I wondered if I'd ever even see Purdue get to a Final Four. And hey, at least we didn't just get to a Final Four and lose the first game. We played for a title. It was a great season, and I'm looking forward to next year. I think we're still a top 10 team next year, and could possibly make another run!
@ksmlovesadam7200Ай бұрын
UCONN fan here. First, congrats to Purdue for a very good year. After losing to a 16 seed last year, I was hoping they would redeem themselves and they did. I felt the same way when Virginia lost to a 16 seed too. I'd like to apologize for any UCONN fan being rude or overzealous. Our fan base appreciates great college basketball and this tournament had plenty of that. I believe most people were hoping these two teams met in the final so that was great. Getting to the Final Four and winning national championships is extremely hard and UCONN fans are so lucky to have had so many great teams.

Very PROUD of This TEAM ! They never quit ! U Conn was on...they were even nearly immaculate at the foul line. And I thought they got a few calls. That block call on the Outstanding Charge take by Jones---was maybe the worst call I have seen this season--a critical 3rd foul. NOT suggesting that was the difference. Purdue did pass up a "few" 3's that they had to fire up quickly w/o hesitation. But I agree w/ Paints assessment that Zach was hot early & to keep working thru him. I hope one day we can get a talented, constant ball rotation like UConn. They wear you down. Our talented Sophomore guards will continue to Work hard & Grow. We have great talent coming in. And selfless Players generally stick it out at Purdue--a great environment that is always a PLUS. Kaufman-Renn really started to come on ! Tough, skilled player inside. Heidi may be a star in waiting; I also hope Colvin will work his butt off in the off season & develop on his patience & skill set. Make his dad Rosy proud. #GoBoilers !

My goodness. We hadn't made a Final Four since 1980. Keady, the hall of fame coach, never made it. Matt came in and if you're not blind you've seen him grow as a coach and recruiter every year. And now he's taken us to a National Championship game. And he's not done. Next year's recruiting class is probably his best yet. You saw what Heide can do. Does anyone doubt that Miles has 30 point games in him? Throw in probably first round NBA K.Katchings next year and Glen Robinsons son plus other great recruits playing with 7 returning players who've seen playing time on the national championship team. What the heck is anyone depressed about? This was definitely not our last or "best" chance. Great season Boilers, look forward to seeing what you do next year! Boiler Up!

Me if I were Edey "in this final I played a hell of a game, scored 60% of my team's point, the other guys didn't play well" Edey being Edey "I can't afford to have long spells of time when I'm not productive, and I had one or two in this game, and that's how we lost" 😮

@gregoryturley1263Ай бұрын
Lots of folks tried the one on one strategy. Izzo and Mark Few come to mind. The others had to change up when Purdue defensive stops and pounding in 2's created separation. UConn was able to sustain the strategy in large part due to offensive rebounding. That is a great credit to UConn's ability. They are a great team that is well coached. Not a factor, but running on the court repeatedly is a violation that start with a T. Refs did not take control of game/Hurley. By not controlling it they are affecting it. A coach touching a player on floor during game play is not an out of bounds call, It's a tech. As is running on the floor and certainly addressing an opposing player. Look forward to never seeing this officiating group in march again
@soccerplyr8Ай бұрын
They could play this game 100 times and it would be the same result. 1-4 from 3 in first half. Either uconn gameplan was so good it only allowed them to take 4 attempts or Purdue thought they had a chance without the 3 ball. They lose 100 out of 100 playing like this.

This was pretty much like the women’s national title game. Perdue like Iowa has one good player and the rest of the team is average. SC and UConn took them to the wood shed. Like Iowa I wonder why they did not build a better team around him. He is certainly a handful and should have a great career. He seems like a class act and very likable. It’s only a game and life goes on.

I don't think you understand how hard it is to recruit to schools when all the major talent goes to schools like UConn, Duke, Kentucky, etc. who wants to go to Iowa or Purdue when you can go elsewhere with a bigger name

I couldn’t agree with you more Fanboys from those schools are delusional They act like UConn doesn’t get nba star recruits all across the board The only difference is they have a better program than Kentucky and fit those players into a better system The big name schools are always going to have the better chance of winning
