I'm so happy you're here! Today I am talking about some of my planner updates and showing you the last couple weeks of my hobonichi weeks, hobonichi cousin, and midori reading journal. I have been experiments a lot in my hobonichi cousin lately to try and finalize what notebooks I want in my 2024 planner line up and in this video I'm showing you an alternative that I never even considered, the hobonichi day-free!
I hope you enjoy my weekly spreads and daily pages, January has been a good planning month so far!

I like the flexibility of Hobonichi planners because you can still personalize them so much. I LOVE the weekly spread you created - it reminds me very much of a bullet journal layout. Perhaps if you make that switch, creating those spreads might help fill the gap when do you don't have the energy to focus on heavily-detailed art? Just a thought. Hope you're staying warm out there in Colorado! I'm in Cleveland, Ohio and we had wind chills in the negative teens earlier this week. I went outside when it was 23*F yesterday and it felt balmy. 😂

Thank you so much! I love the flexibility as well, truly can't go wrong with any of the books. Oh my gosh wind chill is the WORST! I hope you are faring better in Ohio although we are probably both experiencing similar weather : ' ) You are so right about the 23F feeling balmy lol, anything over 20 has felt like a heat wave!

I love how your daily pages look so much!! I was considering getting the avec version for journaling but after much thought, it was just too big to lug around. I think if you draw in the weeklies and white out the other dates you may be able to just use your current one. This way you can switch back with no issue. xx

I think you are right, and I think this is what I am leaning towards! I agree the A5 is a little big to carry, I am praying for a B6 Cousin on day lol. Thank you for being here

Same brain over here, apparently - I’ve also been mulling over getting a day-free next time around, for the same reason (more flexible weeklies, The Cousin Bulk™️)! It feels like the best of both worlds - the beautiful Hobonichi paper/aesthetic, but more freedom! Love your mocked-up weekly idea!

I go back and forth but now I feel like I prefer the freedom than extra bulk.. like I rather have too many pages than not enough. Maybe if Day-free had a liiiiitle more pages but I think I am still leaning towards cousin.

I have been using the day free strictly for journaling, and the calendars to keep track of appointments for the month. I really love it and it’s basically the ideal “planner” for me. My only concern is making sure you have enough blank pages after your weeks layout. You seem to journal a lot in the cousin’s dailies, so not sure if 120 would be enough.

Yeah, I think you are right. I don't write a page-per-day so that is how I would justify it, but I think I much rather have extra pages than not enough. Thank you for your input!

For the font/ sticker thing, maybe stamps? It won’t bulk up and it’s consistent so it’s eases both worries

Yeah, I think if I went that route stamps would definitely be the most ideal, it would probably save me from hand cramps as well lol

I used a Hobonichi Day Free A6 for the majority of the second half of last year and I did enjoy it! The flexibility was great and the quotes area still allowed me to decorate the boundaries without taking up writing space. As the months went on, I learned that I didn't like that there wasn't enough pages to do a page per day for a year and had anxiety about using or not using pages. I also started to hate manually doing dates/layouts xD There's also a 'secret line' that divides the daily page that made me feel like I was mentally locked into a specific layout.. if that makes any sense! Of course, your experience may vary, just my two cents :)

I really appreciate this feedback! I think the lack of pages is something that would also bother me and I think I am realizing that I rather have too many than not enough. I think I would also grow to hate doing layouts manually after some time which is why the cousin has worked out so well. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

I paid the extra $20 for the cousin because I like being able to play with the extra pages. It's okay if the weekly or daily page goes blank, I know I'll have an idea for a spread and want to try it out. I like having the English option, idk if the day free has that? I've also got the tiny weekly supplement to track one-off focuses. I'll use a dot marker to track a habit I'm trying to adjust. Or even my sleep. I don't want it cluttering my cousin but I wanted something with the same vertical layout. The cousin really gives me the room to play, adjust and change my mind. I don't know if I'll ever be committed enough to not want that flexibility.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I have the exact same thoughts as you. I think I would rather have extra pages than not enough. Thank you for your input, I am glad you are enjoying the cousin!

Would you consider a Weeks Mega? So many pages at the back. What about an A5 Stalogy 365? With the Stalogy, you could draw the monthlies and still have a lot of pages to play with. I've also printed a calendar and pasted it into the book. Also, Stalogy has calendar stickers. But the Day Free would be great since you already have a Weeks. Either way, I think you would make it beautiful and functional for your needs.

I've tried a weeks mega in the past but weekly sections just didn't feel big enough for my work needs but I do love the megas! I will have to look into the Stalogys! I don't know if I want to draw out calendars, but I am definitely open to other options. This week I have experimented with more layouts in the cousin and that has been going well! Thanks so much for the suggestions

I couldnt use the week section for my appointments either, cuz i journal there. I sectioned off around the 10 o'clock mark, above it i have a little space for appointments underneath i journal. Maybe thats an option for you too?

Another wonderful video… thank you for sharing your journaling process and experimentation with us. It’s always soothing and inspiring to watch you. I tried a Day Free last year and I write so much on certain days that it only lasted me three months! I went back to the Cousin for 2024 because I fell in love with the HON and I paste in extra blank pages if I need them. Either way, you’ll find your right spot, it’s all about the feeling. If you send me your address I would love to send you a brand new Day Free 2024 I bought that I won’t be using… ! ❤

Thank you so so much! OOO which HON did you get?? They are all so beautiful.. I think I am leaning towards staying in the cousin and just altering the weekly spreads as I see fit. I am still experimenting, but the cousin just feels like home, so I think that's where I am leaning! I appreciate your Day free offer, maybe you can give to a friend or use as scratch paper?

@@torionpaper Oh he he. I got many. Are you ready? There are not enough notebooks to capture all my thoughts (I am a writer) and Hobonichi -something about the paper, the vibe of the company and the community- unlocks so much for me. I got the flowered Liberty print (which I love… the fabric is delicious to touch) in both A5 and A6, the Ivory slash, the Black gingham paper, and the navy One Piece Weeks and A6. They are each for different things, although I wonder if one day I will reduce to one. So…… I also have an unused regular Cousin and Navy Slash HON that I am happy to gift you because I love your channel and your videos!! Your style and your quiet low-pressure way of making me feel good about being in my Hobos have really helped me. No pressure, but if you would like one, let me know. :)

Honestly cutting out Instagram has helped a ton, I read on my kindle on my phone too so I will read when I am waiting in line at grocery store, waiting rooms, etc.! It all adds up!
