I couldn’t agree more and also the quality of the paper. I had to play around for a good year and a half to figure out what works for me. When I figured it out, it was like heaven..

I keep getting tempted to try fountain pens! Which ones do you use/recommend. I know close to nothing but want to try them eventually

@@torionpaper I use two Parker ones (gifts from my grandparents YEARS ago so I don't know the exact style), and the Sailor Pro Gear Slim Sapporo! The Sailor is beautiful but a bit pricey, the Parkers are still great and much more affordable!

Best beginner pens that actually are so good and smooth are Platinum Preppy and Pilot Kakuno

@@torionpaper second the pilot kakuno recommendation . Jinhao 82 also an inexpensive place to start. I hated journaling until I got into fountain pens, now i'll write just to use them and benefit from the journaling as a side benefit

I agree! Better late than never for sure but I think it's definitely something that should be a little more "mainstream" if that makes sense? If schools were equipped to teach about emotional regulation and practices (like journaling) I think it would be super valuable for everyone. Thank you for sharing

@@torionpaper Another member joining fountain pen family, yay! Hope that you enjoy at least trying it out! Disclaimer: I am no fountain pen guru xD so I will just write based on limited experience. Fountain pens feel comparable to gel pens in that they write very smoothly on paper. But each pen-ink combination may feel different because of pen flow and ink wetness differences. I am using a Pilot Kakuno Extra Fine (EF) nib for my regular writing, it is a cheapie pen, but as far as I understand Pilot EF nibs are finer than most of the other common brands' EF nibs, so I liked that! And the pen has been holding up well. I wouldn't particularly recommend this pen if the nib isn't too important or if it isn't easily available where you are though. Pilot metropolitan or Lamy Safari are common starter pens and they write well too. For ink I use Platinum Carbon in black, because it is non-watersoluble unlike most other inks. Not that water solubles are bad, but I have a fear of spilling water and losing everything xD Also a non-water soluble one is good for drawing and colouring over. Ironically I actually dilute this ink 1/1 with water, because it writes VERY dark, and I prefer to have a bit of shading in my characters. I love this blog called "Mountain of Ink" for browsing fountain pen inks, they have recorded thorough and consistent reviews of so many inks. @@torionpaper yeeaass definitely try fountain pens! I second @havinaru, pen + ink combinations (also nib type) will give different writing experiences - and I am not an expert either! I love the Platinum Carbon Ink black, I can get for an affordable price, it is a beautiful deep dark black and waterproof, so it is perfect for sketching. Non-waterproof inks can easily smudge on the page when in contact with water, so I recommend getting waterproof inks. You can freely keep doing your sketches, paintings, and watercolours without worrying about losing your writing or getting smudges. And the kids can take over your book anytime! Hehe! I suggest you getting a Platinum Preppy, maybe the 0.2 nib (EF?) as your writing is quite small. This pen is usually quite affordable and writes super smoothly - great for beginners. And it already comes with a Platinum Carbon Ink cartridge and you don't need to buy ink bottles and converters to start. Other options would be the Kakuno (also affordable) and Lamy Safari, super easy to use and the pen shape "teaches" you how to hold the pen (but they don't come with waterproof ink). Last tip, it is a rabbit hole you are about to get into so... be mindful and resist the temptations! Start small and slowly... 😂Have fun!

I struggle with my handwriting sometimes and feel similarly to you about them looking bloated or spread out! Totally agree! That's why I mentioned they aren't mutually exclusive. Some people are creative for the art itself (extrinsic) some people are creative for the feeling of creation (intrinsic) or a mix of both, so it really depends how you view it!
