2024 Volkswagen Atlas | Is This Refresh Enough?

Typically, Volkswagens imported to the United States are designed for Europe and then adapted to out tastes. But this one is for us: It’s big and full of seats and cupholders; just how we like them. It’s also assembled in Tennessee where it was born for the 2018 model year. It seats up to 7 and goes head-to-head with the likes of the Chevy Traverse, Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander. Its engine is sourced from Mexico and its 8-speed transmission from Japan but the fahrvergnugen is still here. Not that driving enjoyment is a top priority of shoppers for such vehicles but it’s good to know the Atlas feels like a VW from behind the wheel.

It is practical and I like the new updates. Wish they had a hybrid V6 to offer for such a big SUV.

Great review Steve, we don't get the Atlas here so I can admire it through the screen. We still get the Touraeg (which is about £70,000-£80k depending on spec)

The better sales are going, the lighter the refresh is If sales are low, you have a lot of improvements to make

I’m a huge VAG group cars fan. Something that big shouldn’t have a 2.0T. It will use more gas than a modernized V6. The 2.0T engine will wear out faster.

I still don't know what to think of Turbo 4 engines in big SUVs. I'll take Steve's word for it. I love the bold look, but I still love the Traverse Premier for some reason.

Can't wait for you to test drive new Chevy traverse it's all new 2.5 4 turbo 328HP and 326 lb of torque

I'll take the smooth Honda V-6 in the Pilot and real buttons for heated seats, etc...

I'm still a bit unconvinced with VWs direction in the US. They should be positioning themselves as the 'nicer' mainstream brand whose offerings are a cut above the Asian competitors. How are you going to get people excited with mediocre slop like this and the departed Passat NMS. Things like swapping out the DCT for the 8 speed Aisin on this and the Golf are head scratchers. Why would you spend precious R&D money to make a worse product?
