Great video again Michael. I have F9 in my bag and the 5 iron is 22.5. They are strong but I don't hut them that far so it works for me. Arccos showing I am getting 195 off the tee and 185 off the deck with my 5/22.5 so as you mention careful gapping during the fitting is key. Great vid cheers

I am using my Cobra F9 4-iron (19.5*) instead of my Ping G hybrid (19*) because the iron is more accurate, although about 10 yards shorter. This is about the same as your results. If you take out your one pull with the 5-rion, it was much more accurate.

My first 3 Iron hybrids were 21 degrees!

Thanks for the review. Numbers seem to be somewhat confusing. The iron has a higher launch angle, has more spin, a higher descent angle, less carry distance, yet it rolls out 18 yards vs 11 yards for the hybrid .

Thanks for sharing. I wish you could test those 2 in the rough because hybrides are above all made for rough, not for tee shots.

Being 6'5" (I'm 6'4") I'd be interested in what length you are using - are they just standard?

The numbers don't make sense to me. The 5 iron launches higher, peaks higher, Spins higher, lands steeper, yet it has a 6 yard longer average run out than the hybrid. Surely from that data it should be the other way round?

Interesting test Michael, thanks for doing it! If I could offer some unsolicited advice... You could work on your analysis of the data in the GCQuad software. Example: The difference in average carry is 11 yards, but the difference in average total is only 4 yards. This means the difference in average roll is 7 yards (11 yards vs 18). So the hybrid is launching 1.1 degrees lower, the decent angle is 2.3 degrees shallower, peak height 2 yards less, and backspin is 500 degrees less. All that should show mean that the hybrid would have a longer roll than the iron, but for some reason the GCQuad software doesn't reflect that on the total yards. If the software has different roll/friction rates on the green vs the fairway, perhaps this is due to more of the irons landing on the green than the hybrid. The software is also giving you standard deviation, you should use it. In case you are unfamiliar with the statistical term, it is a way of determining the amount of variation within a group of numbers. A good way to understand this is by thinking about average heights. In the US average male height is 5'9" with a standard deviation of 3 inches. This means that 50% are above and 50% below 5'9" tall, and 68% are between 5'6"-6' (+/- 3 inches from 5'9"). So using the numbers from your test,

So conclusion, it's more like a 4 iron and I only hit then out of the rough or worse. I'd just hit my 4 iron off the fairway or light rough.

I'd like to see how the clubs gap against;#1 turf interaction, and grouping. It's not all about distance gapping for me. This club family and most of the modern clubs, they carry 2 irons at 7.5, then 5-2. And they're all mislabeled. That club you tested at 21° loft is a 4 Iron sir, it's a 4 Iron even if it had 10° of loft. Because it's a 4 Iron. Their "3 Iron" is a 2 Iron and they've two 7.5 Irons. What if I'm playing in the rain? And I actually need a 9 Iron. My clubs are from the 60's and to be honest I'm lost. I can find good reasonably lofted clubs for what I want in distance, but when it comes to turf interaction, I'm really lost as to what to do. Is it too much to ask to have a 3-9 set that are all actually progressive in their firmness? Not

Man. My old Snake Eyes 685os 3-iron was stock at 21* and I had it bent to 22.5* to get some extra bounce for shots from fairways. 20* on a 5 iron is for no other reason than to say "our irons are long". I don't care for the practice.
