Why is everybody banging on about the gapping issues , when any competent golfer will learn his clubs and hit with a power to swing ratio helping the gapping issues.i have these irons and they are fantastic, 12 handicap and improving.

Exact same as me. I ordered these and have been gaming them since last July. I’ve got them down to roughly 15 yard gaps and they work great for me.

I tested these along with Cleveland,P790 and I don't have the gaps in distance, very forgiving can get 190 out the 7 iron which ok is more like others 5/6 irons but you just redo yard distances. Dropped from 26-14 in two months with them. I didn't get the sw in the set and use a 54 and a 60 in the mim range. However I wasn't a fan of the driver and hybrids and use the Ping G410 driver and 19 degree hybrid in the range. Very good clubs and made a massive consistency improvement in my game.

Have the Cobra SZ & love them. Carbon top line is nice & serves a purpose. Looks killer in the sun. Hit 50% more greens & more consistent ball flight. Very forgiving miss hits still get you there. The finish has stayed new after 3 rounds. Have played the Cobra RADS & personally like the SZ better. Looks & feel. I shoot 110 average with older irons Adams idea a30s. Shoot 90 -100 last 3 rounds with the Cobra SZ. They are game changers.

Thanks for a super review as always. I think you do the best reviews out there. They are nice looking clubs and seem very forgiving, especially the 3.. er..I mean 5 iron! I also think the 5/7 gapping is a cause for concern. I can't get to bothered about the strong pitching wedge though. I would just think of it as a 9 iron and get specialist wedges with lofts to match.

One does not often see comparisons between hollow body and game improvement irons. For Cobra that would be the Cobra SZ Speedzone VS. Cobra king FOrged Tec. If you are looking for more distance, forgiveness, feel - which of these designs is better? Such a review would be interesting.

Great tech and great results but that gap between 7 and 9 iron is huge. I wonder what these gaps would look like with an average SS player such as myself. I'd guess I wouldn't hit the 5 iron more than 175-180 so the gapping might make much more sense for an average player.

@@gs9403 Had them for about a month now and played 3 rounds / 4 driving range visits I'm still getting used to them. Not as forgiving as my old 1996 Cobra King II Oversized Iron set but man they go far!!! I gained a good 10-20yrds on the Speedzones so im trying to adjust to the distance. You also don't need as much clubhead speed like the ancient set I had before. Still learning how to swing them properly. But overall im happy with the purchase. Also not a huge fan of the chunky grips. I may swap them out with a smaller one like the standard Golf Pride set.

Stronger lofts are the reason we have the A or Gap wedges today. Look out world, if we keep lofting stronger and keep the same iron number, we are going to have an opportunity for a new A2, or Gap2 wedge!

I get people have mishits but there is a 38 yard gap from the 9 iron to the 7 iron and a 16 yard gap between the 7 iron and the 5 iron when looking at averages ... if you buy these you will definitely need to get a fitting for all the irons to make sure they work well. Since most of us are average golfers gotta take into account the good and bad hits.

As mentioned in the video I hit more left shots with the 7 iron which as you know go further so hence the larger gap between 9 & 7 iron than 7 & 5 iron 👍

Michael Newton Golf exactly. Your striking capability is way better than the rest of us watching ... so for the average golfer there could be some gapping issues depending on inconsistency in strike patterns so definitely need to get fit for these irons

Great video, the best on this iron. I hit the 7 irons for an hour yesterday at my local Edwin Watts. I hit 225 yards all day long, where I used to hit my really old pin zings 150 yards with the 7 iron. I bought the hole set!!! Custom in stiff graphite 1” longer than standard length. What do you think about ordering them in all the same length?? I have heard this as an option if you are customizing it for consistency across all clubs?

I have seen you hit smaller heads with much better dispersion, which is more important than ultimate distance. I would love to see you review the Homna Tw-X hollow head irons. They reputedly are long like TaylorMade's 790's but with better dispersion (no flyers), and better acoustics.

As you say, the lofts are very strong! My current Callaway 7 iron blade has a loft is 37 degrees vs the Cobra's 27.5 degrees. This makes this 7 iron sit between my 4 & 5 iron. The Cobra 5 iron at 21 degrees, is almost the same as my 3 iron, which is 22 degrees. Yet again I feel a lot of people are "duped" into believing that these clubs are so amazing, and hit so much further when compared to their current old clubs, but if I look purely at the lofts, I hit my old Callaway blades as far these Cobras, and enjoy a little more feel. I for one won't be shelling out a whole lot of money for new stronger lofted clubs, when my old ones hit just as far!

To be fair. Having a 6 Iron in 9° of bounce will make the mid irons easier to hit. You would need at least 5 specialist wedges to play. 7-PW 46/8 50/8 52/10 54/6 58/8 7wood, 5wood, 3wood, Driver, Putter And maybe these could be usable. But my initial thoughts were far less constructive.

Why do Cobra still call "5 iron" a 21° club, whereas it's the loft of a 4 iron (and a 3 iron in the 90's) ? It won't make it easier to shot. But above all, if there's 5° between each club, how can you keep a gap of 10 or 15 yds between 2 irons ?
@justinstephenson9360
@justinstephenson9360 4 жыл бұрын
The first thing I would need with these irons is a tin of black paint to put over the logo/name at the back - for some reason Cobra think they have to shout this is a KING iron. It is truly hideous, which is shame because but for that these are rather nice looking irons. Not worried about the lofts, would probably mean stopping at a 6i rather than a 5i, but would want 5 wedges rather than 4. Spin rates are low but not bad for the lofts Gapping is the big problem - there is a huge gap between 9i (153 yards) and 7i (190 yards) but the gap between 7i & 5i looks close to right.
@MichaelNewtonGolf
@MichaelNewtonGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Yes but as explained in the video I hit a few left pulls with the 7 iron which as we know will travel further. Hence the slightly bigger gap between the 9 & 7 and not as much between 7 & 5 👍
@justinstephenson9360
@justinstephenson9360 4 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelNewtonGolf True (about the pulls!) but not really sufficient. Let us assume that without the pulls your 7i average would be 185 yards that means there is a 32 yard gap between the 7i and the 9i and be between the 7i & 5i so the clubs are very consistent (I did pick 185 yards for a reason!). But I would argue that a 16 yard gap between clubs is on the high side - I would much prefer to see the gap in the 11-12 yard per club range

Great review but I can't see purchasing these. The lofts are ridiculous. Do any manufacturers make "game improvement" irons in traditional lofts? If not, why don't they? I want the forgiveness (loft is your friend), but I don't need the distance and I don't want to carry 5 wedges to fix the gapping issues.

I wonder if they'll sell 4 club sets because I don't see even carrying a 6 iron with those lofts. So 7i-PW, 46, 50, 54, 58, 5H, 4H, 5W, 3W, D, P. I have a 19 HC and would be more interested in their new Forged Tec with the 30 degree lofted 7 irons. I don't think I could get used to the carbon fiber top line on the 7i despite the performance. It's just too ugly - and I gamed the BioCell irons for 5 years, talk about ugly - but you couldn't see the ugly when you set them down behind the club.

@@MichaelNewtonGolf Yeah agreed. But with the lofts getting compressed from 4-7 and the PW remaining at 44 is leaving bigger gaps with every yearly release. I'm not sure why companies are doing it. They could be a great set , but people almost have to ignore the number on the club and gap the set, so with the 5 at 21 and the 7 at 27.5, you might as well get that 7 strengthened by a degree and just leave out the 6 etc etc
