So if my math is correct (combining the points from this video and the last one, 15 + 22), we're at a total of 37 ways that Miraculous Ladybug took an idea/concept from Shugo Chara and incorporated it into the show. Like I said in the video, please don't bully or harass anyone working on MLB. Miraculous has enough differences to give it its own identity as it does do things that Shugo Chara doesn't. BUT...you definitely can't deny how many similarities there are. Like...my goodness! While making the video I had at least 3 instances where I was like "Really? I'd previously never heard of Shugo Chara but to be honest all the things that are in Miraculous kinda just seem like those little things that you'd change if you were a fanfiction author trying to convert your fanfic into something original-

After seeing this all I can think about is how Luka looks like so much like Ikuto and Adrien reminds me a lot of Tadase aesthetically and with how Astruc views Adrien but with a more similar backstory to Ikuto He's basically just Ikuto mashed with Tadase with cherry picked bits from both of them

First the creator had 100% ikuto in mind (pv Felix) , then after receiving criticism he kept the cat boy and daddy issues idea but changed the character from Ikuto to Tadase (Adrien) aka the perfect wholesome prince.... AND then to make it worse, the creator also made a second "sanitized" version of Ikuto as Tadase /Adrien's love rival, aka Luka, who also like Ikuto, is a talented musician older boy with blue hair that doesn't go to the same school as the protagonist.... "every other magical girl anime" .....the only other magical girl anime that I can think of that *needs* the magical girl to absorb the companion/mascot into an item to transform is Precure, and even that varies per season. Also, Plagg and Ikuto's chara (forgot his name, Yoru?) are practically the same character - both are mischievous, goofy, yet loyal chibi black cats. One could also argue Amu's lock and Ikuto's key "belong together" in the same fashion Mari's earrings and Adrien's ring are a pair.

No no cuz this getting to scary 😭 From the half of all the magical girl tropes that I watched, mostly some of them would be like just Asian.. but the fact what you brought up on number 22, got me shook. This one has half French and a half asian character as well.... If you analyse Adrien and Luka with Shugo Chara in mind, it's almost as if the writers made bullet points on Ikuto and Tadese's traits, shuffled them all together, then pulled them out at random to assign to Adrien and Luka. Those bullet points include: One of the LIs (love interests) is a cat boy, cat boy has an outward care-free personality but actually has a sad and controlling home life. the MC (main character) is in love with the blond popular boy who everyone in the school seemingly loves and who is viewed as "perfect". One of the LIs crosses the MC's boundaries while the other ML respects those boundaries, the LI who respects the MC's boundaries loses the love triangle in the end while the creeper is pushed as the endgame LI by the narrative. The losing side of the love-triangle have a brief relationship before things are broken off. LIs have blue and blond hair. One of the LIs has a non-romantic relationship with a blond-haired character who is an antagonist to the MC. One of the LIs plays the violin. Like you mentioned, the cat boy is forced into an evil transformation by their abuser. Cat boy's abuser is eventually portrayed in a sympathetic light despite having no guilt for their actions. One LI is the MC's age while the other is older. Etc. There are probably more similarities but I'm just pulling from the top of my head. And there are differences as well. Thankfully, Chat Noir never snuck into Marinette's bed or spied on her while she's dressed in nothing but a bath towel, and there isn't a creepy age difference between them. (The Wiki says that Amu is 10-12, while Ikuto is 15-17.)

I admit I was a bit scptical at first about this whole "Mlb is shugo chara ripoff" but I'm starting to see more of the similarities now. It seems like MLB took parts of SC that the creator particuallarly enjoyed and mixed them together to create a new spin on the story, wich I totally get, since I also get inspired by things I enjoy and try to remix them so they feel more original. I apologize if my coment in the first video came out as mean or something, I was just seeing the whole "general stuff most MG shows do" aproach more at the time

Another show that I see MLB having similarities to is Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja. Here's a rundown of the general plot - For 800 years, Norrisville has been protected by a ninja. Every 4 years, a new ninja is chosen - Randy Cunningham is a freshman at Norrisville High and has been chosen to be the next ninja - Randy is a regular person with no training. He is given two things; 1) The Ninja Mask (when it is worn, it creates a suit out of thin air, covers up the wearer instantly, and grants the wearer enhanced abilities and weapons). 2) The Ninja-Nomicon, the collective knowledge of all past ninjas - The main villain is an evil sorcerer trapped in a prison underneath the school, and can turn people into monsters when they are in emotional distress. He does this by sending out his magic (referred to as "Stank") and latches onto an object the victim holds most dear. The more chaos the monster generates, the stronger the sorcerer gets, and if he gets strong enough he can escape his prison and take over the world. To stop the monster, Randy has to destroy the object that's been "Stank'd". The person in question cannot remember what happened while they were "stank'd" - Randy also faces off against an illustrious billionaire (named McFist), who is in cahoots with the sorcerer to destroy the ninja, help the sorcerer escape, and as a reward, be granted a wish in the newly conquered world - Randy often has to solve a riddle provided by the Nomicon to beat the enemy/learn a lesson on how to be a better ninja. And this is visualized through doodles he imagines - When the Ninja has finished their 4 years, they have to give up the mask, and mind wipe themselves of all knowledge of being the Ninja, passing their wisdom into the Nomicon for the next Ninja RC9GN was sadly cancelled after two seasons. It's a little annoying that shows like MLB have gone on strong while having little to no development or plot progression, yet shows like RC9GN are given the boot. I'll now list off the aspects of RC9GN that I find are more enjoyable than MLB. - Randy isn't presented as being the best ninja there ever was. He's young, he makes mistakes, he has an ego, and he isn't perfect. He's always learning a lesson, but it's never the same lesson. He rarely ever reverts as a character. The best way I can describe it is that he rises up, then stumbles a bit, but then rises up higher. - The formula is never identical. Sometimes he fights monsters, sometimes he fights robots, sometimes he fights monsters and robots, sometimes he's the cause of the problem, sometimes it's his best friend Howard, sometimes it's both of them, sometimes it's something completely external - When there's destruction caused by a fight, it isn't magically fixed in the end. The damage remains, but is seemingly easily fixed in the nest episode. But there are still consequences - The villains aren't made to be sympathetic at all, but they are still comedic with how casual they are about it - The pacing never has a problem. The episodes have two different stories, each taking up about 11 minutes. They manage to fit so much stuff in those 11 minutes without it feeling rushed. Probably due to it not having a 30 second transformation sequence every time he puts the suit on, or an entire monologue by the villain as he describes the emotion and talks to the person he turns into a monster - Randy develops a crush on a classmate, and it feels so natural. It doesn't take center stage, it doesn't include convoluted confession plots, it's just two teens who like each other and one (Randy) is just a bit too awkward and busy with Ninja duties for it to become an official thing, but there are still moments that make the attraction feel genuine - The sorcerer's range is confined to the school area, his "stank" immediately turns a person into a monster, and they aren't conscious of their actions or able to form complex thoughts

Honestly girl I love how proud you are of your faith. You don’t see that much nowadays haha. But regarding the actual contents of the video, I’ve never seen the anime, but based on your points, I can totally see the similarities. Personally, I believe similarities in shows/books/movies are ok, as long as there is something new being brought to the table. In my opinion, Miraculous honestly doesn’t seem like it’s bringing anything unique (which is entirely the fault of the bad execution of the concept and the unwillingness of the creators/writers to make the story really go anywhere).

You think ML ripped off Shugo Chara... watch Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne... a 2001 Magical girl show. I swear the concept is basically the same. A quirky main character with a little magical creature (an angel in Maron´s case) that allows her to transform into her alter ego to catch some akumas that reside into objects. Then we have the other guy who can transform with a similar creature as well. Both of them know each other in their daily lives but are clueless about their secret identities. also the main character has a best friend who somehow works to discover the superheroe-thief´s identity. i swear... Even the purification of the bad has the same vibe. check it out.

If a show uses a trope that many other show uses, its likely not a rip-off. If a show uses many tropes and presented all of them in such a specific ways that is similar to only *ONE* show, Its probably a rip-off or the show is very *VERY* inspired by that other show, oh also emphasize on "very".

guys! blatantly copying from one source and stealing ideas is not the same as taking inspiration and using ideas from a source to create your own or make something more unique out of it!! magical girl shows like revolutionary girl utena and princess tutu, for example, both take inspiration from fairy tales and use fairy tale tropes along with magical girl tropes and implements them into their story, but its the way they implement them and the way they execute it! when you begin to compare these two shows, the difference between them are so visible its impossible to begin to try to find any more similarities up to that point other than “they both take inspiration from fairy tales.” or shows like madoka magica take a trope or concept and sort of “play” with it, or add a twist to that concept, therefore differentiating it from its predecessor. and unfortunately, as it looks, miraculous ladybug does not seem to do this and there are times when it’s blatantly copying shugo chara, not even taking inspiration, just straight up stealing ideas. it’s ok to still like miraculous ladybug but its important to rightfully acknowledge what it did wrong. copying is not ok!! anyways,, great work once again aloubell!! you continue to make some really good points. looking forward to your next video! 💕

Okay, you did mention the main thing I had in mind when I commented on the last episode, namely the cat boy being under the thumb of the villain. I saw someone else commented with the purple butterfly motifs shared between Hawk Moth and Utau, but I found a couple other things glancing at Wikipedia for both: 1. Main character and cat boy come into possession of items belonging in a pair (the two specific Miraculouses/Humpy Lock and Dumpty Key). The lock even is what helps Amu transform, the key probably does the same for Ikuto? 2. Both Amu and Ladybug have an item (Humpty Lock/Yo-Yo) that allows them to purify those corrupted by the villain and help allies transform if they couldn’t already. 3. When the villain corrupts herself intentionally, she’s able to (help) corrupt a lot more victims.

I know this video is two months old but has anyone noticed Felix somewhat similar to Ikuto? I mean besides the potentially inspired by Ikuto in concept- - He is the cousin of Adrien - Both used to be really close (Just like Ikuto and Tadase) - They also have a female friend with them (Chloe. Though sadly the writers don't bother with Chloe) - Felix and Ikuto are mischievous and aren't good nor bad. They are neutral - Felix and Ikuto has more freedom and is usually up to something - Kinda has harassed the MC 👁️👁️ but well, I wouldn't really count this since a lot of male leads does this in shoujo... - Felix and Ikuto wears dark clothes while Tadase and Adrien wears light clothes. Yeah that's common too but it's still funny since they happened to be cousins who does this - They have no problem with stealing or breaking in if it means getting what they want - They have been involved with the MC and the villains (in person to be exact) + doesn't really involved themselves with the side charas. Like I don't remember Ikuto conversing/meeting Kukai or Rima These may be nitpicking but again, the moment they became cousins- I can't help but to point these out

Oh Dang, I did not know there are more similarities between these two shows! I honestly haven't watched Shugo Chara in years because almost nobody ever mentioned that show because it's underrated! I think the most popular magical girl show is Sailor Moon (and maybe Cardcaptor Sakura especially the Clear Card manga is still going) because people still talking about it these days. Anyway, I think inspiration is good but not really a rip-off tbh. I think the most similarities I've seen were Lulu's mom and Adrien's mom because they looked so alike especially with the same hairstyles lol. One thing I want to comment on is that Emilie is inspired by Tara Strong but they still look alike... Also, I think her eyes are kind of bother me for some reason lol. But, the rest of them you mentioned are pretty interesting so I don't have much to say. Lastly, I feel like I enjoyed the manga more because it targeted the older audience more than the anime because it had more content and detail. Also, they have a better ending or I would say a "happy ending" lol. While the anime version is more like for kids especially season 3 was cringy I remember lol.

Came back to this video just to express what I actually suspect the root of MLB's problem is. I think the root of the problem isn't taking inspiration from other series but doing it in a way thats "just because its cool". I think the creator keeps adding elements without really purpose in some cases because he saw it elsewhere and its toooootally cool so hes got to put it in MLB without understanding how those elements work. Timetravel? WELL other magical girl shows had it and it was cool so it HAS to work for MLB (it didnt). Elemental dragon? Sounds cool has to belong here! MLB has a feeling like its not planned out.(Example: any similar powered zodiac animals, the whole time travel stuff, a lot of other aspects). Now is it a crime to put things you like in your writing? No but its important to remember purposeful design. For example princess tutu: It has the maincharacter be a duck turned human and another character is a prince. Both these elements are cool but they also fit into the existing motifs and themes of fairytales, ballet and swan lake mirroring two very very popular ballets. Every element inspired off something in princess tutu serves a narative purpose.

I don't watch MLB, I have only viewed it from video analysis - but I HAVE seen Shugo Chara! It was my early days of watching anime, along with princess tutu and saint tail 🤣🤣🤣 I also forgot most of what happened, so I was caught way off guard when you explained IN DETAIL the similarities. I think there's two possibilities. 1) Miraculous _is_ heavily inspired by Shugo Chara or 2) _Both_ Miraculous and Shugo Chara are based some something(s) even older. I don't think it's pure coincidence since I can definitely see the similarities.

Well, the original airing of Shugo Chara was right around the time that Thomas Astruc began coming up with ideas for Miraculous in 2005. It's possible that he took some inspiration from it, but I could also believe that the similarities are just a coincidence as well. The concept of people being villainized by negative emotions and needing to be "purified" by the magical girl is a STAPLE among magical girl animes and by no means unique to Shugo Chara. The catboy thing could also have been an idea Astruc came up with on his own: black cats are a symbol of bad luck, making Chat Noir a perfect foil to Ladybug (a symbol of good luck) which is an important aspect of the show... Whereas Ikuto was just a catboy because... hot(???). The only similarity that makes me think he maybe was aware of Shugo Chara is the existence of the kwamis, but honestly, it could still have been something he came up with on his own. They're little animals, as opposed to little people, and their hi-jinks are a lot less obtrusive to the story. Plus, while they serve a similar function, they seem to be fleshed out enough (with their own lore and backstory with previous Miraculous users) that they stand on their own. But I agree miraculous is inspired by many animes and films including sailor moon, monster high, shugo chara ofc, spider man, winx and many other shows

huh the "all magical girl shows are simuliar" statement is clearly from a newbie....as uh Sailor moon and madoka magica are VASTLY different. Pretty cure is a very successful magical girl series that is even more different from those two but it also shows some similarities to Shugo chara and miraculous...specifically the mascots helping the girls transform in a few of them. Princess tutu for heavens sake is like miraculous as well....uhm actually princess tutu seems to be another anime they ripped off from in terms of the plot. Princess tutu's identity is kept secret, princess tutu is also hopelessly in love with someone she can never confess to or else she vanishes. Princess tutu's alter ego is a girl named duck who is so clumsy and insecure she can only find her confidence in being princess tutu....huh weird.

It's amazing :D Though now I've seen more, I think Ikuto's Death Rebel transformation more easily points to the Adrian is a sentimonster theory and Ephemeral than Chat Blanc. - -Ephemeral, the cat form Gabe takes in that episode and Death Rebel share a colour scheme of black and purple. - Ikuto transforms into Death Rebel/is controlled because of an heirloom from a parent (the violin from his real father, Emelie's ring) - If Ikuto resists control he can be brought back under it by wielding the connected object (the tuning fork, the ring) - Ikuto is mind controlled by his step father to get the embryo/wish object. - When Ikuto transforms into Death Rebel the transformation sequence surrounds him in black feathers. I don't mind Miraculous using some inspiration from Shugo Chara. I just have my fingers crossed that since season 2 ended with Amu unifying with all her Charas the next season of Miraculous will let us see a mass unification of all the miraculous.

I've watched both of your videos on this topic now and yes, while I have to agree with the people saying after the first video that most of your points are pretty common anime tropes, especially for magical girl anime, and even some in this video are...all of them together in one show can not simply be brushed of with a "DUH, THAT'S NORMAL FOR MAGICAL GIRL ANIME!". So many weird similarities can not be a pure coincidence. Mostly when it comes to setting, character design choices and character background. A little bit too suspiciously similar...

I watched Shugo Chara in 2020-2021 and somehow I missed all the Lulu similarities. I don't watch Miraculous, but my cousins and brother do (or used to) so I know the basics. Late to the party, but if I am to be honest, there are too many points here. Some of them are very relevant, but a lot of them are a bit too nitpicky. I'd say mostly when talking about the "blonde person" and onwards. It doesn't help that they're the last ones too. It's not that they're necessarily not valid, just that the impact they leave is more a desperate attempt to dig the slightest similarity you can to seemingly have an overwhelming argument rather than proving a point with specific arguments that you thought were pertinent. Honestly, I always found them quite similar as well, especially when you count the love square situation and kwamis/shugos similarities (I hadn't even thought about the dark eggs which is to me now a huge point of similarity because I honest to god forgot most of the plot of that anime despite having watched it all when I was a kid), and adding the layer of the second season's villain by itself would've been very impactful, but the added arguments left more of a "trying too hard" vibe, which I doubt will convince the people who initially weren't convinced and which in the end works against the point of your video. I think the biggest problem would be the connection between the points that touch major concepts and situations within the series and the ones that delve into details. To illustrate what I mean with details, the mother's hair. The tragic caring mother archetype can often have that hairdo in anime. It's not a convincing argument not because it's not similar to the show, but because it's so alienated from the plot and common enough that it can very well be a coincidence. Taking those points apart more as weird coincidences rather than similar points would've drawn more attention to the fact there are strangely many similarities rather than lump them in with more poignant arguments and dampen the overall effect.

It's true that there is many similarities but some of them are directly linked to others. For example the fact that in both series a french character has a father whose work is linked to food it's probably because France is often associated with it's gastronomy .

Digimon Frontier and Miraculous Ladybug SPOILERS AHEAD: I once saw on internet an image of people talking about Miraculous' fandom shipping concepts, like adrianette, ladychat, ladrien, and marichat and how some people disagree "which one is best", showing a bunch of images of 2 characters from Digimon Frontier in multiple transformations combination and then I thought: "Oh! I remember that animated show. It was about a group of kids who are the new legendary warriors from long ago, they transform showing a kind of magical chibi spirit simplification of the persona they transform into in the transformation scene that has the transformation quote. The protagonists also go along with 2 main fantasy creatures, one being more feminine and responsible and the other more masculine and lazy. The villains got corrupted by negative emotions, but in the end, the protagonists purify their spirits and always saying the same quote. Sometimes during the transformation they would combine different spirits to transform into something new. And there was also this black feline transforming boy who was not that living human as he thought."

All this makes me want to go back and watch as Shugo Chara. At least I know I can watch the whole series of that rather than suffer through another one of Miraculous’s cringey and obvious plots. I also somehow forgot about the second season villainess?? Maybe because she was only in the show and not the books, but at least I have something to look forward to if I do rewatch the entire series!! 😁

i didnt watch shugo chira and i dont intend to defend miraculous or astrucs ideas in any way. buutttt since there is limited amount of trope there could be two shows at some point. BUT these similarities are too spesific to be what i was expecting to be similar

(Yes, simi joke comment, but while many of the similarities exist, most of them are pure coincidences or real stretches and are clearly mixed together in an assortment of ways so they're not really 1:1 comparisions/riipoffs.) Also many of your comparisons aren't so much "tropes" as they are design elements. Sort of like how both Kimba and Lion King have a "boar character who is an outcast" even though the two characters are COMPLETELY different from each other, but people still try to use it as an example of how Lion King rips off Kimba. (t's still fun to look at all these though.

These arguments are more convincing. Miraculous is probably inspired, not plagiarized (which you clarified), at least a little from shugo chara. I’ll have to check it out sometime

Okay . Miraculous ladybug is a show that just writes its episodes with no purpose. I won't say I disagree completely but I don't agree. I mean shugo chara is a well written series I didn't watch it but I am just assuming. If Miraculous was intead inspired by shugo chara then it will be better written.

I just still don't know about that. I don't mean to be rude or anything it's just these reasons still seem too vague or coincidental. Such as number two, the two main bad guys are French. Well for one I feel like this point almost immediately looses credibility due to the fact that Miraculous Ladybug takes place in Paris so it comes as no surprise that he is French. About the statement where you pointed out that the main villains have similar eye color and hair color, well again it's not surprising that they have blonde hair as there is roughly 20% of Europe's population is blonde. Next up the third reason the villain, Lulu has an actress mother and a Baker father well I don't think this was ripped off of shugo chara because for one having a actress mother does happen quite a bit in shoujo and honestly it seems just so out of the blue that someone would look at shugo chara and out of all the parents they decide to rip off the couple with hardly any lines (and to be quite honest I forgot about Lulu's parents) and decide to make them into the main characters' parents. Then we have reason number 8, that sometimes the reason the victims transform is stupid. This is a really easy answer..... it's a kid show. Number 9, the bad guy does this stuff for a loved on who happens to be a female. Okay so let's start with this the bad guy always has to have a goal whether it be money, power, revenge, or to protect. It happens a lot in anime that the villain who just wants to protect a love one ends up using powers for evil and saying the end justifies the means. Like you said and I quote "There are cliches and tropes that are stapled to magical girl and shoujo anime." Though you did make a decent rebuttal there is the large possibility that it was a coincidence that they had similar tropes. For instance one time I was thinking about a book idea and I shared it with my sister and she had told me it was eerily similar to this one manga she read and I had never read it yet I somehow thought of something so similar. So that could have happened between Shugo Chara and Miraculous Ladybug. Anyway that's all I will type out for now because it's 2 am and I need to sleep so I will add more later. Also don't get me wrong I'm not hating on you or anything I just happen to not agree with the reasons.
