Antique George III Copper helmet Coal Scuttle, A light restoration for Curragh House At Ferrymead Heritage Park
from what i could find out made in 1800 - 1809
made in England it had been sitting around for a long time before I fixed it for them at no cost. Any support you could do with the thanks button would help to do more and bigger projects

My guess is the handle was filled with resin to add rigidity in order to keep the handle from bending when the scuttle was loaded down with coal.

I expect the resin is more to prevent the tube from collapsing or kinking when it was originally bent - A VERY old technique that is still used VERY often when making brass musical instruments, except in that case, the resin - or pine tar, would be melted out.

I love this antik copper household objekts. An original is much better, than the replika from mid century till the 80s, wich where just produced for Decoration. A top result.👍👍👍👍👍

I'm sure you know But the handle is full of pine resin to keep the handle from bending easily Great restoration and you did a wonderful job restoring it!! Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

I wondered if I was for extra stiffness, or was part of the manufacturing process. Silver- and goldsmiths will use pitch to support a piece of holloware that needs to be hammered, either by securing the piece itself in hot pitch and letting it harden or filling the piece with hot pitch so it can be hammered from the outside.

Great job. I like how you didn't over clean it. Good tip with the magnet while removing the dints. Wonder about the purpose of the resin in the handle. 👌👍

The resins is your give the handle strength and not fold when picking up a full bucket of coal 😮

Wonderful repair I was so relieved when you started adding patina back to it, I just get devastated sometimes when someone pulls out an angle grinder for a historical item and then mirror polishes it, now I’m sure it was smooth and shiny when new but this was too nice to do that with. Oh and I really dig the continental does it still have the original 462? Really is a lovely car.

Hi pickle tree thanks for watching ,yes I watched a lot of KZfaq videos and realising they're devaluing what they're restoring, but then again some things are so far gone the have to be restored. the lincoln has the 462 still in her ( 7.5 liter motor )

Everything was good. Regarding the history of the piece, a concern to keep the shapes and as much original material as possible and the mastery in creating a false patina with the ink of the pen. CONGRATULATIONS! p.s: Next time, don't park on top of the bike path, hehe
