Today is 1/20/21.... primers, bullets, and powder .... are only available from the saddle bags on that herd of unicorns that just ran down the street. That is why I'm watching a reloading video from your library. Seems to be the only way to enjoy the hobby.... livin' in the past!!

I ran the 70 grain Nosler RDFs with 23.5gr of Varget and they shot 5 shots at a 1/2 inch at 100 yards and about 1.4 inches at 200 yards. I was super happy with the results. The 69 SMKs were also about the same.

Another great video Johnny! I agree with Ron K about the position of the Chrono and angle of light. Still a pretty good comparison. I wouldn't mind seeing a few rounds with the AA2520 just to see how it groups. I also liked that you started with the brass trimmed and no crimps. Keeping everything consistent except the powder is the perfect test. I used to crimp about everything I was going to shoot in a semi-auto but after seeing your videos, I crimp less often. Keep the videos coming! I have learned so much from watching and can't wait for more .224 Valkyrie! Great job!

I really like your format, how you share all the main specs of your loads, etc. Great Job Bro. Might be interesting to measure the bullet jump to your lands for your gun and adjust the O.A.L. for your gun with your best IMR load and see the differences that makes... Further refine that .5 moa group. See what happens. Be sure to leave a jump. Don't seat against the lands, that's dangerous. But varying your jump seems to be the next step in achieving your accuracy.

since i started loading berger vld's, i had to buy a vld-specific die - i use redding. i also use it for any other bullet with a secant style ogive (hornady vmax, barnes tac lr, berger vld, etc). they say you can use it for tangent style ogive bullets, but if you use it on a compressed load it will put a ring on the ogive. it's easy enough to swap out the seater from one to the other though
@denniscastle936
@denniscastle936 4 жыл бұрын
I've seen you run out of OAL adj before. If you have a longer cartridge die set, simply swap seating punches. Example: 30-06 & 308. Also 22-250 & 223. The longer cartridge will have the extra length you need.

I know this is an old video but if it were my horse to ride, I would take the 22.9 charge and very the seating depth and see if you can tighten the group. That 10 fps standard deviation was to good to leave on the table. I would also investigate 22.8 and 23.0. Also, when it comes to the 23.5 grain charge, the area of 23.6 grains is in a none accuracy node for 77/75 class bullets. Seeing what 23.4 and 23.6 do would be a worthwhile experiment. As usual, love your content.

I shot a best group Saturday with 22.8gr TAC and the 70gr RDF. The velocity was 2685fps in my 24" Varmint. I think the variation in the Caldwell chrono depends on the positioning of the sensors and perhaps a slight angle of the two sun shades.

@ JRB: Shoot some Varget! I shoot the 70gr Berger VLDs over 24.8gr (Berger's stated maximum with 0 pressure signs, could probably go another .3gr or so) in a 24" barrel for a velocity of 2925fps which gives me 0.3-0.4 MOA if I do my part. Just loaded up some RDF's working up to the same max charge but haven't had a chance to shoot them yet. Would love to see how your WOA barrel shoots the RDF's with Varget.

Good content sir thank you. I picked up 100ct .224 70gr RDF at Nosler today I will try these in a 16" RH 1:8 5 groove with a Wylde chamber. I spent some time with a Nosler tech regarding this bullet in a AR platform these should work well with 1.750" brass for a COAL of 2.255-2.260". I have Varget, IMR 8208, Accurate 2495 and H-4895 to try with these bullets. my RCBS and Hornady seating dies will work with this Ogive. I hope you get a chance to try Accurate 2495 with similar weight bullets, I like IMR 8208 but it is hard to find in my parts.

I’d like to see the 70RDF with H4895. I shot it with Varget and accuracy was poor until it was pushed very hard and heavily compressed. Even then it wasn’t stunning. My optical chrono would do the same things as yours depending on the lighting conditions. It always read higher on cloudy days. PS, we need a hot 6mm on the channel. Grab-a-Gun has the RPR in 6 Creed for 799 ;)

JRB, if you are going to swap scope between Valkyrie and 223, note the zero markings for the 223, then do the same when you swap to Valkyrie. When you go back and forth, if properly torqued down, you should be very close to your marked settings for each caliber.

Brb u may wanna try the 55g sp w/ cannelure varmint, SPBT design product#2266 from hornady. ive gotten the best accuracy of any 55g bullet. with these HORNADY 55g SP bullets seated to cannelure oal @ 2.185" in LC brass trimmed to 1.750" loaded w/ 26g AR-COMP & Win sr primers in crazy 20-30mph swirling wind gusts i was shooting around just under 1"@100 on average .935" 5 shot groups off a concrete table w/16" 556 an ar15 that was rock in the gov profile stainless freedom barrel upper assy with the a2 sight and midlenth gassystem/round plastc handguard on a anderson lower and a 4x simmons shotgun scope on top, funny right! I then proceeded to bang steel w/ 3shot groups at 100yd increments in order 2,3,4,5 out to 600yds well hears where is gets good. All the 3 shot groups where less than spectacular as i say the wind sucked bad and i was realy just trying to get a feel for the gail force swirling cyclone throwing bullet swatter. But after the first 3shot group at 6 to verify my hold and affects of the wind, i could literally see the wind changing direction from left to rt and back to left via flags every 100yds. I proceeded to put 15 of the rounds into a what ill say was no bigger than 7" more like 6.5" but ill go with 7 for arguments sake shooting painted steel. I can't freakin wait till I get a day with little to no wind. Hell im excited to see how the load shoots out my other rifles now. 55g Soft points out of a bottom shelf ar15 shooting ridiculously well, better than it ever should in that sort of weather. who knew. I almost left when i got to the range and saw how bad the wind was, its was twice as bad as I thought it would be goin by how it felt when i left my house I figured maybe 10mph. I was way off.

Has anyone seen the new Lee auto breech progressive press that will be available in April? I know Midsouth Shooter Supply has them available for back order, just wanting to see what people think about if it will be a practical press. It has 4 stations that will use the Lee breech lock system where you set the dies in the breech lock and will not have to reposition them when changing dies without having to change the entire die plate on top.

I think the biggest thing to consider is if Lee has redesigned the primer feed. It seems that is what gives the most issues on Pro 1000 and loadmaster presses. It looks to be set up for the same calibers as the Pro 1000 which maxes out at 223 for OAL. I think it will do well as long as it is not your only press.

Randal Hall I think it has to do with the harmonics of your barrel the different burns create different vibrations and I thi k that has a lot to do with it and the burn speed nothing is exactly the same even the same powder u less it's the same lot. I love rl22 in my 300 win but I have had one pound that shoots 1 to 3/4 groups then the next pound that shoots . Half inch almost every shot. But that's my take on it
