This is going to be INSANE! Two 224 Valkyrie rifle builds back-to-back. Can't wait to get into it! In this video I share the details for what I'll be using for both an AR-15 build and a Remington 700 bolt-action build, both in 224 Valkyrie! Hey dude I have a bolt action AR upper in 224 Valkyrie. I’m just getting into load development now I have a video on factory ammo groups and long range and a few videos of reloading and accuracy tests. I did get a chance to go after some prairie dogs as well with scope cam footage. I have a playlist on my channel called UPR15 224 Valkyrie where all those videos are. Excited to see your results

Yeah bro. Love your builds and vids. Just rebarreled my m12 savage 223 with a 1-7 28in Criterion. Best move ever. It shoots 82gn Bergers into bug holes at 200. Wish i could shoot in long range like you can.

This is a much more interesting concept than I would have expected. While I have almost no interest in buying anything in that caliber, the comparison between the platforms is really intriguing.

What do you think of the new Lee Auto Breech Lock Pro (semi) progressive press as compared to the Lee Classic Turret press? Your .223 video on the Classic Turret was great. I think you'll be impressed with the new press.

I believe PTG originally released an out of spec reamer....that has caused a lot of issues with a lot of inaccurate barrels, is this one correct to SAMMI standards?

Love the video, I built my 224 Valkyrie with mainly palmetto state armory parts on the upper, with a LaRue AR trigger. It shoots pretty good an going to be looking forward to your bolt gun build, I worry it might send me down a rabbit hole but, it would be fun!

can you load a Hornady 88gr ELD Match into a 5.56 case and shoot it through a 5.56 ar ?

1 in 7 is marginal for 90 grainers, so says the Sierra box specifying 1 in 6.5 twist, so forget 100s. Some shoot ok, but many are seeing frustration as 1-7 is insufficient, so I’m curious to see how the heavies maintain at distance. Kind of disappointing you chose a Remington action, considering all he choices these days. There are lots of parts, but quiet a bit has to be spent to take the action to where others start before mods, and it’s been done so many times before.

Quick question. Is the chamber ream a SAMMI spec reamer? Some of the earlier 224 Valkyrie reamers had too much free bore and caused reduced accuracy. My CMMG barrel was one of those.

Gavin - planning on doing a Rem 700 in 224 Valk over the winter so I really like this content. My plan for getting around the mag issue is to use an ASC 65. Grendel mag with allows for a 2.316" OAL. Thanks! I'm going to use AICS 308 mags (from Accuracy International, the steel ones) with a 6 Dasher conversion kit from Primal Rights... Stay tuned!

That should allow you some crazy OALs! Nicely done. Kind of hurts the apples to apples from the perspective of comparing the semi auto platform vs the bolt gun though.

1:7 😔 not planning on shooting any of the long, high-BC 224s that lets the valk shine? Also, brand new Remington? My sweet summer child, Savage small shank is the bread and butter.

Variety- it's the spice of life :) :) I debated twist rate and talked to a lot of people... there's advantages either way if you're referring to 1:6.5

You cab shoot the heavier, higher BC bullets from a 1:7 barrel. Its really the chamber that makes a difference with this round. Some if the early chambers had too much free bore and caused issues with the high heavy, high BC bullets.

Dane Kaylor 1:7 will shoot up to 90gr VLD/SMK bullets just fine with the correct chamber, the early barrels that wouldn’t shoot well were cut wrong by JGS reamers. Both my 1:7 twist barrels, an 18” and a 24” shoot 90gr SMK handloads into 1/2” at 100yds for 5 shots with boring repeatability. Edit: for a ground-up build, I’ll take a 700 over any savage any day. Look at the PRS circuit and the F-class shooters that aren’t running custom made actions and the vast majority are running a 700 receiver.

@@jimhans1 1:6.5" would stabilize 90gr Berger VLDs, 95gr SMKs, and any 100gr bullets better though.

ostiariusalpha true, but with the limited Valk case capacity, you won’t have any velocity to make them a benefit, you’d be better served by a 224LBC/22Grendel at that point or even a 6.5Grendel. I personally think the Valkyrie is being pushed at the wrong market, it should be marketed as a stellar long range gas gun VARMINT cartridge, there are already several better long range precision rounds out in the AR15 platform that will shoot those weight .224” bullets at better speeds than the Valk will do.

Open discussion: im looking to build a .224 valkyrie on the AR platform as ive heard what the .224 is capable of at 1,000 yards and i love the ar platform Can a standard ar-15 lower be used for the .224? How about mags? BCG? Does anybody have sources that i could find my neccassary parts for it? Barrel is my primary concern. Any advice and guidance is appreciated so thank you in advance.

.224 in a bolt gun? The only thing that makes the .224 relevant is that it fits in a standard A.R. magazine well. There’s so many better chamberings for a bolt gun.

Also makes a great training bolt rifle with similar characteristics to a Creedmoor with wind reads.
