For a while I’ve been wondering how well my 2100 would do at 50 yds. Tonight I got to test it out!

I bought my 2100 back in '12 and the trigger will definitely smooth out eventually and become completely smooth. As far as accuracy, your 2100 is shooting EXACTLY the same as mine does at 50 yards. I've tried everything and different pellets, etc, but it will only group about 2.5 to 3 inches at 50 yards. So that leads me to believe the manufacturing of these rifles over all these years is very consistent at least, to give the same groups at the same distance. Also, these rifles are very reliable and durable. I've never had mine apart in 12 years and it still shoots perfectly. No BB's of course!

Great shooting at 50 yards with a .177 and the underpowered no mildot scope. While the Winchester scope is nice for the price. I think 50yards is stretching it on my 19777 xs pumper. For 50y, I use a 3-9 or 3-12 bug buster? In low to no wind about 1 inch groups are possible with the right pellets. The Norma RT pellets work great too. Thanks for sharing the full potential of the Daisy 880!

I'm loving these 50 yard videos. I need to get more pellets to try with my legacy 1000 and see what fun it can have. I couldn't really see if its the same with the 2100, but the loading is just so deep and narrow that loading pellets drives me crazy. Anyway, another great video and great shooting.

@@PapaTAdventures I think I like less expensive guns more than high end models because they are a far better value for the money. Plus, if I drop one or it accidentally falls over onto the floor/ground I don’t get super upset. Another thing I noticed and it flies in the face of the marketing, I’ve found I don’t need a ton of velocity or power for how I shoot. I think it’s safe to say that most people would struggle to find a safe, discreet and non noise sensitive place in their yard to shoot out to 50 yds. I strongly suspect the majority of yards in North America don’t have the space for that kind of distance. So it’s weird. You’ve got all the marketing promoting bigger, more powerful and definitely more expensive airguns while the majority of people don’t have a convenient place to shoot them. I imagine a number of people have bought too much gun for their needs and end up finding that out the hard way. I still remember the first time shooting an empty pop can with my Diana Model 36 back in the 80’s and being confused why it didn’t go flying? The .177 pellet passed through so quickly it didn’t hit with the same kind of impact as my Crosman 760 or Model 62 Shanghai China break barrel. The expensive, powerful and beautiful Diana and was actually less fun of a gun for plinking. Maybe I’ll try shooting out at longer distances as I’ve got enough yard to do 100 yds. That’d give me a chance to better appreciate my more expensive guns but with the amount of rain we get it wouldn’t be easy to shoot very often.
@PapaTAdventures
@PapaTAdventures Ай бұрын
@airgunsalaska I do love your long open range, I would be hard pressed to get 50 in my yard with visibility. I understand the value for money, that's what led me to get my Diamondback when I first started. Of course, I was also chasing that marketing gimmick you are talking about at the time as well. Since then I've expanded a bit, and I find myself shooting my ~$20 Umarex pistol more than anything else. It's small, fun, and easy. And it adds challenge of trying to hit at longer distances with bbs and fixed sights.

👍 Thats my "go to" gun, since i grew up with it. Does your bolt kick open when you shoot? An o ring can be placed between the rear of the barrel and the barrel support by filing a little off the rear of the barrel until the transfer port holes line up. The grub screw will hold it together. Plenty of 2100/Legacy 1000 barrels still around. I'd be hesatent modding the old vintage 766 tapered barrels. Does that one have the plastic pump piston? I remember that you were telling me that you didn't like punching out the rollpin. What you can do, is to find yourself a cheap/refurbished/on sale Legacy 1000 and trade out the pump tube. You will have that thing hitting at late 70s early 80s specs. The firing "crack" will be a little louder. 😅 On another note, probably old news to you, but I was on gamo's websight yesterday and saw a repeater pump gun that they are supposed to be releasing for sale in the future. 🤯 Apparently I missed the memo. There was news of this since the beginning of this year. It's a .177 but I'm hoping for a future .22. PS: my Crosman likes the piranhas and the Crosman premiere hollow points.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska Ай бұрын
I’ve not noticed my bolt kicking open but the gun is still very new and the bolt is quite sticky. My well used ‘81 760 does kick the bolt open. You caused me to remember guys commenting about the metal piston parts in the Legacy that could be fitted to the 2100. I don’t know if I’ll do that but I like knowing it can be upgraded. I just learned about that new Gamo pumper this weekend from another viewer. I’m really excited to see how that gun performs in the real world. I’m glad to see some innovation in the pneumatic category again! Last night I totally forgot about Crosman HP’s. I’m not sure I even have any in .177? I’ve been trying to only buy domed Crosman Premiers and it seems like the stores in Anchorage and Wasilla rarely carry them. It’d be interesting to see how they all compare to the more expensive Benjamin Match domed pellets.
@jackpotparty58
@jackpotparty58 Ай бұрын
@airgunsalaska I had the issue of my bolt kicking open on a Remington Airmaster 77, which is a rebranded 2100. That's the gun I started to learn to do mods on. It's possible to do that mod on your 760 but, as I may have hinted, those older barrels are becoming harder to find. You can convert a newer Crosman barrel to fit but you would need certain manitory tools to do so. Yea, in general, mine likes domed and wadcutter shapes. The Crosman Premiere HPs and piranhas performed only slightly better in my gun than similar shaped pellets. I don't remember the exact pellets but they may have been the Benjamin and Crosman domed that you had in your video and some RWS and old Crosman wadcutters. Does Crosman even make wadcutters anymore? I can tell you what my gun absolutely hates. Lol It hates those Crosman Pointed Hunter pellets. They hit the paper as if I wasn't really aiming.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska Ай бұрын
@@jackpotparty58 Crosman still makes Premier wadcutter pellets, I recently bought a tin of 500 in .177. They don’t work as well as Meisterkugelns but the price is reasonable. The 2200 magnums make fantastic 30 yard squirrel guns and are pretty accurate to boot. I don't think I ever tried any great distance with mine because I think they only generate about 530 fps in .22. The Remington copy of the rifle that you're shooting is total junk in my experience ( the packings burst within a couple hundred shots but they make good power while working) The Crosman version that you have is probably much better. Always enjoy the airgun shooting my dude.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska Ай бұрын
I agree, I wouldn’t want to shoot an animal at a long distance like in the video. But at closer ranges the 2100 is plenty accurate. I’m not familiar with the Remington version.
@codered7453
@codered7453 Ай бұрын
@airgunsalaska .22 is king for hunting, but I use my 880 on occasion to take a squirrel if it's close enough and it has the same problem as your 2100 : it doesn't group with anything resembling consistency, especially with a scope at distance. It almost seems like the scope makes it worse! I ended up drilling out a Daisy scope ring to use as an aperture sight and that actually works pretty well on my 880 but it definitely isn't consistent at anything over 10 or 12 meters. My 34 serves my purpose for everything and is absurdly accurate at 25-60 meters if I do my part. And the Remington version is identical to your 2100 but is black with a silver barrel instead of brown. It'd be awesome to see you fix up one of those 880's and try to maybe find some way to accurize them. My 880 is so damn flimsy it's comparable to trying to shoot pool with a rope.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska Ай бұрын
@@codered7453 Shoot pool with a rope! 🤣😂 I think it was last fall I tried shooting one of my 880’s long distance and groups were opening up at 35 yds and past that there didn’t seem to be much point. I know more now and maybe I could try some different things but I don’t think the results would be much different than the 2100. I can do quite well with my Diana 34 at long distances. I think I did a video a while back comparing it to my Gamo Swarm Hunter? I’ll have to look. Gotta make sure I don’t repeat a video as I sometimes forget what I’ve already created. 🤣🤦‍♂️ I was just thinking, I wonder if open sights on an 880 might automatically compensate for barrel/receiver flex and alignment issues compared to a scope. Now that I’m thinking about it, I believe that was the issue with my Dragonfly. The barrel moved around and it was especially noticeable at long range with a scope. But with the iron sights that were affixed to the barrel it was more accurate.
@codered7453
@codered7453 Ай бұрын
@airgunsalaska That's flimsy ain't it lol. Yessir, I think I also remember the 34 video comparison but I go back and rewatch old videos all the time. If I remember correctly, you have the 34 Panther synthetic model? Mine is beechwood T06 and it's probably just as accurate as that old 953 that I had, up close and even more accurate out past 25 meters. Hits like a miniature. 300 H&H on squirrels. My 880 is stupid flimsy but I can hold it together for the most part and my aperture sight is on the furthest rear dovetail so I can get the longest possible sight radius. It can really shoot somedays and then other days it's trash but I like it because it's classic and the "crack" that it makes when you pull the trigger is almost ASMR to my ears. They are super handy and lightweight (part of their problem) and it shoots flat out to 30 yards so hitting squirrels is generally fairly easy in the woods. I'd love to find a wood stocked model, with steel barrel?, and take mine apart to upgrade the pneumatics in the old one. If you can keep them from wiggling, they can really shoot. I'd probably still leave it open sighted but a scope would be cool to use if the gun was accurate enough to warrant it. Pneumatics have always been more accurate in my hands for the most part but that Diana is hard to beat for power and precision.

I have the 50th anniversary ccrossman legacy 1000 and it is very accurate but usually get a flyer every 5 shots or so usually will always group 4 nicely then toss one just out of the group. I think that is just the way it is but they are still very accurate pump air rifles.

@airgunsofalaska Ай бұрын
That’s been similar to my experience as well. I’ve not shot my 2100 extensively, nor have I tested it with a wide variety of pellets. I think it’s quite good for the money and the random flyers could be caused by the gun flexing or barrel movement from pumping, something like that. I’m not sure? For closer distances the gun works amazingly well, much more consistently than many low end break barrel guns I’ve owned over the past 20+ years that cost $40-$60 more than the 2100.

Yes it is very loud and cost more to shoot , and it can bring the much dredded (ATF ) cops in fast . Picked up a Winchester 1977 that is nothing more than a hod rodded version of a Daisy 880 . It pumps out 12fpe with ten pumps . Twice the energy of a standard 880. I hear it will be discontinued? Takes more effort to pump but the payoff is more power . Have the 880's , 881 ,822 , 922 resealed most of them and they all shoot like new. Might check out the new Vapor when its released in October . Dude you rock . 👍👍.

Exactly. I don't watch ANY videos of those super expensive guns either. Nobody I know has anything like that, and most people just need a backyard pest gun or something to plink with that doesn't cost a whole lot. Now don't worry about the 1977XS being discontinued. You can order parts from Daisy, for the 1977XS, that will fit your 880 and increase it's power to the same level as the 1977XS. Those parts required are the dual O-ring piston (piston only, not the rod, it's too long), the dual O-ring bolt, the intake valve/abutment thing (black metal piece), and the internal plastic barrel stabilizer. The intake valve/abutment will allow the 880 to accept 15 pumps safely without valve lock, and achieve 873fps with 7.9gr pellets. The 880 will require the extra pumps because the pump stroke is a little shorter than the 1977XS. However, even at only 10 pumps with the 1977XS parts installed, the velocity will be 784fps. Note! I also have a Daisy 822 that I installed the same 1977XS parts in, except the barrel stabilizer will need to be drilled to fit around the .22 caliber barrel of the 822. And, you can't use the dual O-ring bolt because it is not for a .22 caliber. But that's ok, the intake valve and piston will fit right in, and increase your 822 velocity from around 540fps to almost 700fps with 15 pumps. It's always best to try to find a cast metal pump handle off a mid-80's 880 and install it on your newer guns to replace the plastic lever which will flex a LOT with the added compression. I have three of those handles that I use on my two modified 880's and the 822. It's just so much better than the plastic lever.

Still have it now for over 23 years . I mount it on a BOG Deathgrip tripod and take out grey squirrels with ease . It is 20 caliber 24 inch barrel . Thanks for all that info you provided , I do a lot of research on the 880's and the like . So I'm aware of the tips and tricks to improve the original design , but thank you for the input .
