I got a new gun for Christmas and wow! I didn’t realize they still made airguns like they did in the 70’s & 80’s. This 2100 is accurate, powerful and faithfully follows the pattern of an earlier generation of airguns. I dig it!

Don't worry, the bolt will wear in after a while. I bought my 2100 back in 2012 and it took a while for the bolt to break-in and become smooth. Now, it's smooth as silk, well 12 years later LOL.. But seriously, it's a good shooter and very accurate. A few years ago, back in '17, I built a wooden stock and forearm for it, and now it really does look and feel like a real rifle, and heavier of course. Difficult project, but it was worth it. Also I have my original 1979 Crosman 766, still works. Got it for Christmas '79 when I was 14. I did have to re-seal it and install a new pump cup about ten years ago, but it still working great. Pump hinge is a bit sloppy now though, but it's been through a lot.

That’s super cool how you were able to cyclist on build parts for your gun. Very nice! My long range plan is to reseal my 760 and 2200 Magnum but I keep getting sidetracked with different guns and modding other guns. Plus I want to get more familiar with repairing airguns before working on those two guns as they have a ton of sentimental value.

I bought a Powermaster 760 as they were originally called back in early 1967 right after they were released in late 1966. Paid $19.95 for it. All wood and metal. Had it right up until a couple years ago I sold it on E-bay to a guy in CA for $100. Still worked after seal replacement and was in OK shape for having a million shots put through it and handled by a 10 Y/O. Back then Crosman recommended up to 20 pumps in them for max power.

Thanks for your review on the 2100. I do not own one, but I've been considering it. My only pause is the loading port. My reading distance vision since I hit my mid 40's has gone to pot, but easily solved by using cheap reading glasses. I would prefer not to require using them for loading this gun. Perhaps it's something I could accomplish with feel. Thanks again for your review!
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska 6 ай бұрын
I was definitely fumbling with the loading port. It’s not my favorite layout and with small, .177 pellets it could get annoying. I’ve not shot the 2100 enough to know if you could load it by feel. I suspect a guy could with enough practice. It’s a great airgun for the money. Once I spend more time shooting it I’ll have a better answer. I do know my .22 cal 2200 Magnum is easier to load as the larger pellets are more finger friendly and drop in a bit easier.

@@airgunsofalaska You'll get used to it, just takes doing it a lot and finding the right way to get the pellet in there. I stick my thumb on the pellet as it's placed on the tray(?) and sort of slide it in, pushing it in with your thumb. Usually goes in perfectly every time that way. Probably won't work with gloves on Lol

Hay now, and there you go-ooo... not bad groups with iron sights...Love mine, I had a 760, gave to nephew. smooth bore... I personal do not shoot BBs threw mine, can mess up the rifling. Buck-rail sale an adapter and moderator for it... really don't need it, does quiet it some, but adds a cool factor... Add a 3x9 x32mm and you will be punching out that center of the dime no problem... Have fun with that one... Big C out... 😎... FYI, I don't know if your Walmart has them, but you can find a pellet pen that helps getting those rascals in the breech. Crosman makes one in metal.

I’ve got a pellet pen somewhere, but I think it’s in .22 and I never used it very much. I can see where a pen would be nice for this model. A metal pen would be very nice, the one I have is plastic, I think it was from Air Venturi? This gun will only be used with pellets. I don’t have much use for BB’s.

You could likely file the sight thinner if you wished, just mark it before you start so you keep it even and accurate. I wouldn't say plastics as scary as it used to be, providing good stuff is used it can be suprisingly tough with the added help of light weight, but I will admit Metal always feels nicer to use.
@airgunsofalaska

I’m not certain how that’d turn out with the fiber insert. I want to try the gun with a scope but if I can’t get used to the site I’ll install a standard front site off an older model.
@Segafishy
@Segafishy 6 ай бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska if it's like the Daisy one you should be alright as the plastics pretty tough so stress wise you'd be alright, the insert can be safely removed by taking edge of where its melted one end off and it'll slide out, fitting it back just add a tiny dab of super glue.

I think the 2100 is a remake of the 766... I had the 766 back in the 70s 80s, it was a bullseye hitter. I never missed a thing with it. I like the old sights too, they are more accurate. It was a great BBgun back in the 80s. I have also thought about buying the 2100 just for the nostalgia.

@@airgunsofalaska The old 766 was the precursor to the 2100. Same exact rifle except the 766 had a tapered barrel shroud instead of the 2100's straight barrel shroud. Also the 766 had plastic stock and forearm exactly like your 2200 magnum, nice looking fake wood with the checkering. All my guns that came with the fiber optic sight I pulled it out and look through the hole like a peep sight..or replaced with an optic😄 I was researching the difference between the 2100 and Legacy 1000, I think the difference is the 2100 has the metal receiver but the Legacy has the metal pump rod that's why it's more powerful. Maybe some day I'll try to combine the best of both worlds.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska 7 ай бұрын
I watched an OTSA video last night and saw him explaining the difference. I didn’t understand why Crosman made 2 guns so similar. I think swapping out the pump rod would be easier than the receiver? That’d be an interesting mod. Daisy seems to be really missing out here by not offering a retro 880 with the metal receiver. I’m really stoked about this 2100 Christmas gift. 😄 I likely wouldn’t have justified it had I looked into buying one.
@yoitired
@yoitired 7 ай бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska Ah yes it was him. The metal receiver and trigger are big plusses, does it seem like 'just' a big 760 or a level nicer? If Daisy brings back metal parts I'm definitely buying! Putting the metal rod into the 2100 might be easier, I'm not sure if the valve and transfer port on the same on both of them tho.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska 6 ай бұрын
@@yoitired Ahhh… good point, I wonder if there are other differences like that? The 2100 is physically bigger and has a longer length of pull than a 760. Since the modern 760 was cheapened and changed so much from the old metal receiver version I think you’d have to compare it to an older style 760. My ‘81 760 feels like a youth gun compared to the 2100. Kind of a toss up really depending on what feel you like. I don’t know how they compare power wise? I think if a guy likes to shoot BB’s the 2100 would be superior in that regard. For shooting strictly pellets the 760 is a lot easier to load.
@yoitired
@yoitired 6 ай бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska Good stuff to think about, I see what you mean about loading pellets because of the loading ports. I don't particularly like the 760 cus it feels so cheap and like a toy, but sometimes I just don't want to worry about lead contamination if I'm hanging outside cooking, eating and whatever and a smoothbore is def better for bbs. I'd certainly be interested in upgrading my lead free option, maybe find an appropriate length smoothbore barrel for the 2100/Legacy.
@airgunsofalaska
@airgunsofalaska 6 ай бұрын
@@yoitired I don’t like handling lead pellets either. I keep a paper towel out on my table when shooting to wipe my glove or fingers off periodically and then I wash my hands in the garage before going into the house. I believe I read that it’s not lead getting on your fingers but whatever coating is on the pellets? A while back I looked into lead free pellets but holy cow are they expensive! If it were me I’d just shoot BB’s through the 2100 and not worry about it. I’m kinda skeptical that BB’s wear out steel barrels. I shot a shit ton of BB’s through my ‘81 760 and the barrel still has distinctive rifling grooves. Plus the BB’s have a zinc coating or something so I’d think that prevent steel on steel wear? Rifling makes the BB’s more accurate and the 2100 isn’t an expensive gun to begin so I suspect it be decades before you noticed any ill effects if there even are any?

Glad you like that 2100; sadly, most of these are made in China now. I had two this past year of Chinese mfg & a American Legacy 1000 and wasn't very happy with any of them....Their sights were all crooked, and the guns all retained air over 8 pumps 👎 That BB magazine system is excellent though, making it even more sad & odd that the smoothbore 760 has such a lousy magazine by comparison... These guns do seem to have adequate power for heavy pellets too, though the Daisy 880 reportedly does even better; @Libra,7 did a bunch of testing years back and found his 880s did well even with 21 grain H&N Piledriver monster pellets...😳😁👍 Maybe your 880 or 2100 might do decently with those heavy Hawki and H&N Rabbit Magnum pellets....might be worth a try I dunno. I too wish they'd bring back the 2200 BTW 😁👍 P.S. I look forward to your Daisy 753 alloy pellet testing; methinks one of these would be handy around the yard for chipmunk, starling and sparrow removal with those great looking sights 😁👍 Sadly, funds will not allow for it right now. Stay warm and safe up north there brother..always a pleasure conversing with ya...😁👍

I’ve not done a ton of shooting with my 2100 yet, I’ve been waiting for the scope to come in. I’ll have to see if mine holds air. Another channel contacted me earlier in the week and the guy’s Legacy was holding air just like my 397 was doing. I’m growing a real appreciation for the Daisy 880 design as of late. Lots of excellent videos and information out there about them. I’ve currently got my ‘86 880 disassembled into more than a dozen pieces as I work to reseal it. I’m amazed at how nicely designed they are for serviceability. I can see why they have such a following. I like their construction much better than the Crosman/Benjamin way for using roll pins. But I do like the solid steel barrels the Crosmans use as opposed to the straw type barrels of the 880 style design. I really, really like my 753! The winds are back so I can’t do any decent outdoor testing with it. The good news is we are getting more daylight now and slightly longer days. I recently got an order of different match pellets so I’m curious to see how it’ll do with them. The comment section is one of my favorite aspects of KZfaq! 👍

@@natesmith5393 Yes, their shrouded pneumatics appear to all use soda straw style barrels. The 13xx pattern type guns like the 362 use a solid steel barrel. The older versions of the 760 also used a solid steel barrel. Now that I’ve disassembled an 880 and saw how the parts fit together I’m getting a lot less biased towards that style of design.
