It's impossible not to be moved by visiting places where we are reminded of both the terrible things we can do to each other, and the ability of humans to recover, renew and rebuild. Travel gives us a deeper understanding of the depth of the human experience and we are so fortunate to live in a time where not only is travel relatively easy, but even when we can't travel ourselves, we can go along with people like yourselves.

Miyajimi is magical. Taking the hiking trail up is definitely the best way to go. Good for you, even if you had to walk down in the dark! There are 3 well maintained trails up to the top of Mt. Misen. They are all worth hiking, as they are each different. I've even hiked a non well-maintained trail up in addition to those 3. Mt. Misen/Miyajima might be my favorite place in all ofJapan. Thanks for reminding me how beautiful it is. I can't wait to return.

So glad you got to see Miyajima Island it is beautiful. It was raining on and off when I went there, still loved it. Okonomiyaki is one of my favourite Japanese meals. Hiroshima is beautiful but haunting. So many Westerners are distraught when they visit because the terrible atomic bomb, but like Tia said, the Japanese people in Hiroshima are so happy and lively.

The city really has a lot of heart. I'm not really sure what we were expecting with Hiroshima, besides the dark history. But it's really a lot more than that, and of everywhere we have been in Japan it is easily the spot we're both most interested in coming back to (when we have more time). It just has a vibe to it.

My parents took us and our then 11-year old son to Hiroshima and Miyajima on our 2014 trip. When we arrived at Miyajima, the tide was in. After exploring, my wife and I walked up the hill while our son stayed with my parents. When we came back down, the tide had gone out and we walked out to the gate. It was quite the contrast. If you had caught the tide out, the Tia for scale would've shown how massive that gate is. If you pass through Beppu on Kyushu, the Takasakiyama Monkey Park is an absolute must see. The monkeys are not managed. The humans let the monkeys keep to themselves. There are hourly grain feedings. The twice a day sweet potato feedings are an amazing site. It is said that if a monkey walks through your legs, you will have good luck. Keep your belongings secure, as they'll try to take anything that they think is valuable. My mom had a monkey sneak a hand in her pocket and try to take something. Looking forward to the journey south. I didn't realize Japan extended that far below Kyushu. I love the content, video editing, and music selection. Safe travels!

Okonomiyaki comes in two major styles: Ōsaka (lighter, no noodles) and Hiroshima (larger, noodles). For me personally they’re both delicious but Hiroshima has an edge. You chose a great place to eat. The people of Hiroshima have a warmth about them that really makes the city feel homely.

Something to consider. Unless the rules have changed since the pandemic began, if you leave Japan (such as taking a "brief" trip to Taiwan), upon return to Japan, you should be granted another "new" 90 day visa. I know, because just before the pandemic closed Japanese borders in 2020, I spent 3 days in Tokyo on a 90 day tourist visa, then travelled to Australia and New Zealand for 5 days, before returning to Japan, whereupon I was again given another 90 day tourist visa. However, I should note that this process should not be repeated ad infinitum, in other words, you should be relatively safe to use this process for an aggregate 6 month stay in Japan one time (Japanese authorities warn against repeating this process just to stay in Japan, and recommend the designated long-term stay visa for tourism purposes). The only other requirements is that your US passport must be valid for more than 6 months and must have 2 blank pages. If you would like to verify the validity of this suggestion, just contact or visit the Regional Immigration Bureaus that are present in the major cities (Tokyo has one, Osaka has one, etc.). There are normally English speakers in the bureaus, especially at the information desk located in the entrance lobbies.
@alfazulu6515
@alfazulu6515 Жыл бұрын
Mate, you were given another 90 days because your stay was only 3 days. Immigration looks at total number of continuous days you were in japan. Like anywhere else, if you stay close to 90 day limit, stay away for 30 days before entering japan again. Same is true in US, HK, malaysia, etc
@mattsoca1
@mattsoca1 Жыл бұрын
@@alfazulu6515 Actually, the information in my statement came from a member of the Consulate General of Japan office which has jurisdiction for the state where I reside. It was also confirmed by an immigration official in the Tokyo Regional Immigration Services Bureau when I applied for my Certificate of Eligibility for a long-term stay visa, so I have no idea where you obtained your claim. Moreover, I can certainly state that it does not apply "like anywhere else". For one thing, a "30 day" period does not apply to Americans when they visit Canada repeatedly.

No idea! Maybe Taiwan? We’ll probably pick up our pace a bit after Japan & the holidays.

For foodie, do you guys enjoy Japan or Korea?
@OnePackWanderers
@OnePackWanderers Жыл бұрын
Oh man, this is impossible to answer. Korea has awesome dishes like bibimbap and their fried chicken is incredible. Japan seems to like subtle flavors with their curries and stuff like gyudan. Both are masters at fried pork cutlet. I can't choose 😬

We all missed you guys! But hey you can't film all the time, you need to be with relos and have a break. Once again you have set exactly the right tone at the start of this video. Terrible, atrocious what war does, as is doing right now. I am intrigued as to how you will get down to Hateruma. You probaly are too!? Stay safe. MelbSi
