Kid2 left the roof yesterday.
He has been the one we believed would leave the first.
A nice flight over the wall towards the marina.
Even though it must be wonderful to finally feel some real air beneath the wings, there will be a tough time for him. He will have to move along and inbetween already established domains in the area. Those domains are guarded by watchful parents. There might also be minks, cats and foxes on the ground.
Kid1 and Kid3 are still on the roof.
Kid1's soon ready for her takeoff.
We expect Kid3 to be able to use her wings eventually, but it will be a little later.
Gher has called for the chicks to leave the roof for some time now.
Also others have seemed to think it's time.
After Kid2 left the roof, the tensions between the adults and the remaining chicks have calmed pretty much.
The magpie chicks have grown bolder.
Maybe their self esteem has grown a bit larger than themselves at the time.
The first year of living is the most dangerous to them.
They study and learn, hopefully they will understand their limits soon enough.
Their potensial capacities are huge though.
The OC chicks can use their wings now.
Now they visit the garden very frequently.
They are still very dependent of their parents, but learn every day.
They look like very nice students.
Lady's and Wing's nest work has completely been off the radar.
This is maybe natural.
Even though their work is both steady and important, it's being kind of silent.
We have no idea what will happen when their chicks hatch.
We expect (hope) the eggs will hatch in the end of this week or so.
Their chicks might be chicks jumping off the roof within days.
We don't know.
The Exons are still very much present.
Strong couple, seemingly very interested to take over the roof.
We have suspected it's Exona (and occationally Exon) checking out the top of the magpies' nest.
Now we are not so certain any more.
We believe Lady and Wing (and their chicks) will keep the roof the rest of the season, but we have no clue of what will happen next year.
We see the Shegulls every day. Their chicks are on the ground somewhere.
The Footies are still patiently wating for their egg to hatch.
We don't know how much time they need to realize nothing will probably happen.
PS:
Kid2 has returned to the garden three times already. We don't want gull chicks to stay in the garden. The dogs and the chicks don't know each other.
Also Kid1 left the roof today. To the Footies' roof below the roof nest. Footy doesn't like it.
We have still not found a way to deal with this properly.
