Mad Max Fury Road managed to do something that many other franchises that tried to revive themselves struggle to do, live up to their original material. But George Miller is no ordinary director. The original Ozploitation movie has evolved from its origins as a movie about society on the edge to depicting a society all the way over the edge that sees its title hero struggle to retain his humanity in the face of the basic need to survive in a hostile land. He goes from battling gang leaders to warlords and patrolling the streets to struggling to survive on them. The drifting man of few words at the center of these movies ends up reluctantly over throwing petty tyrants as the last feeble grip he has on who he was. Mad Max was a passion project for Miller that no one could have foreseen as the landmark movie and series it has become. Having made the movie in that spirit he has made a practice of rehiring those who helped him realize his vision as an unknown Australian director. From handing the writing duties off to someone who played a small role in the original to inviting back the actor who played Max’s first foe, Toecutter, as the embodiment of his last villain, Immortan Joe. With a folkloric approach to canon there is still plenty to connect the 2015 movie with its predecessors from the 70s and 80s. What little detail did you find? Enough that I would love the mantle to be his. I think he does superb in the role, even alluding to his replication of the facial tics that Gibson used. The only other contender I could think of would be Chris Hemsworth.... I could see him taking the role with aplomb too.

The Gyro Captain and the pilot in Thunderdome are the same people. There is a scene where they come face to face and say, “you?” and the pilot gives the sheepish grin.

I felt that way about Thor: Love & Thunder. It's Korg telling us a story about Thor on an adventure. That's why it's so silly. Korg isn't all there.

A cool bit of continuity: in Beyond Thunderdome, Max has a blown right eye pupil, to reflect the left side head injury Max suffered at the end of part 2.

Genius movie. The attention to detail is mind-blowing. I might add that the Tarot images are also used in Beyond Thunderdome: Max hanging upside-down from one leg tied to a rope when he wakes up in the kids' compound is The Hanged Man. The Wheel of Fortune is reconfigured into "Gulag" and all the other punishments when Max breaks Auntie's law.

Tom Hardy was exceptional in this role. But cred has to be given to the effects team that designed and created the vehicles. Coolest gig ever. Especially liked the use of engine blocks as counter weights for the pole swingers.

Glory and the Child were also an important Part in the Mad Max Video Game. While the Game isnt perfect, they realy hit the Nail with that sad and devastating ending.

Just wanna throw it out there (I know how fanboy this sounds) Hardy supposedly told Miller he didn't think Max would go with her "he's nowhere near ready for that" was his reaction and it was a great piece of advice thanks to Hardy.

it's definetly a much tighter and more technical production than the old ones. THe old ones have a special charm to them though that will always be enjoyed by max fanatics

When i was a kid, my dad showed me the original mad max movies. And as sn adult i enjoyed fury road, just watched it again last month and then felt i really need to buy Mad Max for ps4, sooo many neat things in the game!

There is a PC/console game that has the “Hope and Glory” characters from the comics. Story is a little different but mostly covers the comics.

I gave thisa thumbs up for the info provided..... despite 'Road Warrior' being used several times. I saw Mad Max 2 in Australia when it was released. It was Mad Max 2 period. There was an ad for a renaming competition for American release. I guess Road Warrior won. To me, and true aficionados, it will always be Mad Max 2. And Star Wars will always be just 'Star Wars' the way it was when I saw it in 1977.

This movie was much better than I anticipated it being, only thing that I wish they would have done differently was actually put Mel Gibson in,, yes he's older but that would have went along with a plot. Let's be honest here, the only didn't want Mel Gibson, not because of age, it was because he's been blacklisted in Hollywood due to the abuse claims and the fact that he made a Christian movie.
