In this video I wanted to do a floating bloom inspired by all the rain we’ve been getting here lately. I hope this video is helpful and inspiring for you and you enjoy watching this half as much as I enjoyed creating it!

PM to Paint measurement (ESTIMATE!):
1.5oz (45ml) PM to between 1/4 tsp (1.25ml) to a 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) paint to start. If too thin add a little more paint (or even a gel gloss), if too thick add a little more PM to thin more or even more of your varnish or other acrylic extender/thinner).

Simply GORGEOUS Jody!!!. Love the colors…nothing like rainy days blues. I was interested in the blue black because I just ordered some, I think I am going to love it. Before you spun it out some of your background looked exactly like cheetah coat. The way you enhanced the petals really added so much to your bloom. 🙏🏼🫶🏼🌹

@@ThePaintedDreamer It's so strange to come across a color you've never thought of. Or when you put two different colors together and get something spectacular. In oils if you mix equal parts Alizarin Crimson with Ultramarine Blue, it will make a black that is too black. It is an optional elusion that plays tricks on the mind. All most a black hole. Anyways, I did love the painting. It's raining here today. We really need it, and a lot more.

Jodie hi there, these colors are stunning and elegant. I love the lacing and the delicate cell structure..I love within the cells the petals where you get the verticle stretch out cells. I adore that metal blue shimmer. 💘 love it ...that silver lake glimmers. I like the composition all 4 ways but I think I like the open area facing right and down. The Art is indeed a Winner. I have literally just started doing this. No lessons just playing. It's not as easy as it looks lol. I am so inspired! This is beautiful. It all looks so accidental but there is actual talent involved. I'm going to keep playing with it thanks to all the inspiration. I felt defeated yesterday but I'm not giving up!

This definitely makes you think of a rainy day ooohh you should do one in black cell activator and call it rainy night 😆 how cool would that set be?!! I mean you just can't go wrong with these floating blooms! You know I was looking at this and started thinking 🤔 I don't think I've ever seen you do anything in just warm colors (reds, pinks, yellows, oranges) it's always got a cool color (blue, green, purple) in it.. it would tickle me pink to see you do a warm color palette on a black base!! I know you get a million suggestions so you may not be able to get to it but thought I'd throw it out there! Never know!! Great work girl! Always love these floating blooms!!

You’re right though I haven’t really done a lot of warmer palettes like that. I’ll have to do one of those and I like your idea for a rainy night floating bloom, I may have to throw purple into that one 😉💜

@@ThePaintedDreamer oh definitely add dioxazine purple or another dark purple like that, maybe do the swipe in dark purple and blue black with a silver and black c.a. then use them in the bloom as well maybe just those 2 colors with a silver and black c.a. would look incredible oh how I wish I could paint right now ugh I'm goin nuts 😂

I found myself oohing the blues when you introduced them at the beginning. So pretty. It's a shame the swipes flew off but what was left was so soft and lovely. Love this piece! Have you ever used silver as a cell activator? I wonder how that would look with the blues. Maybe it wouldn't be enough of a contrast. Silver and black might be cool. Love the colour palette Jodi. And this piece would definitely brighten any rainy day that’s for sure!! REALLY LOVING the angles too!! I’ve learnt more about how to actually blow out the paint for the bloom technique from your last few videos than over the last year of practicing on my own. I think that’s why I’ve used the hairdryer most of the time-I just couldn’t get it right. But you make it look so easy. I’m going to put the hairdryer away and work on copying your blow out. Thanks for showing us how it’s done right!! Love your work hugs as always D

I’m so glad these new angles have helped! 😃 I’m going to need to start practicing with the hair dryer again as I go bigger, I’m not sure I’ll be able to reach a 20” in the middle without getting paint all over myself 😂. Hi Miss Meg and welcome to fluid art 😃 you’re going to love it! It can be overwhelming at first but just have fun with it, with time and practice all the elements start falling into place. I had a hard time with paint mixing when I first started too. I’m in the Midwest outside of Chicago and it’s been a very rainy and cold spring for us so far. I have a feeling it may turn and suddenly be super hot and jump right into summer! That’s definitely happened before 😂😃🤗💜

So Jodie you're saying on a rainy spring day you like to cozy up with a nice pillow and take a swipe at letting your dreams bloom? :) Lovely piece! The larger canvas allows the bloom to retain so much. BTW, you've convinced me to order a couple of tubes of the blue black to give them a try.

@@ThePaintedDreamer Thanks, I'm looking forward to seeing the effect. I have a collection of mica pigments that I have been using mixed into some colors (and occasionally just mixed with clear varnish) with good shimmer effect. Still trying to get a true butterfly wing effect of shifting color patterns, but what I have got looks cool. The donut pillow test is on my should do list for this week, will let you know how it turns out.

You did it again! This is just amazing. Love the color palette. I did try using my Pebeo Blue Black again and it did turn out as you said. You mentioned the flocculation and I see that on some of mine sometimes on the edges. You said it was too much spinning, could it also be not enough paint or paint to thin (or thick)?

That blue black is something else isn’t it 😃. Flocculation is typical around the edges from too much tilting or spinning as you are taking too much paint off which is in essence leaving you with not enough paint and you keep stretching it so it’s going to start to separate. Any paint will do this if it’s stretched too thin but some are more prone to it than others like lower pigmented paints, metallics and pigments. Also some paints that have gone bad or are having a weird interaction with other paints can also cause flocculation. Hope this helps! 💜

Thank you 🤗 I typically like to varnish or resin my pieces after they have cured for awhile but you don’t have to, it’s personal preference and some just prefer not to 💜
