Welcome to the Mill Brook Railroad. We haul wood pellet heating fuel throughout the winter on our 7-1/4" gauge trains. We run inbound and outbound loads. Inbound loads, train WP-1, come in one short ton at a time and outbound loads, train WP-2, go out 200 pounds at a time. All this on some of the lightest aluminum rail practical for trains of this size.
Today's train is the inbound WP-1. With a combined weight of 2650 pounds, it is the heaviest train on the MLBK and brings in shipments of wood pellets to our storage shed, to be pulled out of storage later as needed.

in the bicycle world we use a chain tensioner to take up the slack in the chain on a single speed bike. Maybe you could fabricate one for you Loco so the loose chain will stay on

I could also torque the axles properly, instead of getting distracted halfway through tramming them in and leaving the axles or the jackshaft loose. I've done some pretty bone headed things this winter.

would having an engine at each end make it better? you would not have to unhook and reattach to the other end when you need to change direction. would a push pull combo work better?

Nice run Aaron. You did it like British Rail does: walk their locos ! Sure title and show would have been far less impressive, but you could load 105, went with it and 1 loco to Sugar House. Unload, add only 1 flat. One unit, shorter train. But may be helpers weren´t available for so long. Was happy they helped you while your back rest a bit....and then....you lift those 2 flat cars ! I hit my head against all walls. Now i´ve a headache. Couldn´t they stay on track even if unneeded, like they did for so many years ? I notice that for some time now, you load, unload cars at Sugar House from farther track. Any reason why it´s not on nearest one, less walking with load ? Ya... the chain and wood pilots. Too easily damaged. Thanks for those great runs and stay safe.

I felt stupid after picking those cars up. It added to the back ache. The closer track needs work, that's why we're not using it.

@@MillBrookRailroad thanks about track condition. Stupid you´re not.... yet ! In a few weeks, may be, décisions : turntable...or siding....or weed sprayer car....or finish gondola...or c´mon, don´t be shy and lazy. Jump in track extension for the new branch.... Well any of those projets even if some look easy and fast, require a good frame, read back. In the meantime, try to relax and think twice before doing business as usual. Even standing from the bed needs réflexion. And that´s good for all of us all the time !

Divide the weight by the number of axle you have,then you know how much weight you have on each axle.
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
Exactly. That's how I know how much to load each car. I put a weight restriction of 250 lbs per axle on the line. I may exceed it occasionally, but the rail is good for 300 lbs per axle. Beyond that, you start to have rail deformation.
