Because of these videos, I froze some tortillas before they went bad and when I pulled them out to thaw, they were as good and pliable as if they were fresh. Thank you so much for all the tips you provide us!

Gnocchi that has been baked as part of a sheetpan dinner is amazing. Some cubed up butternut squash, red onion wedges, broccoli and the gnocchi (no boiling needed) drizzled with a few tbsp of melted butter mixed with sage, salt and pepper. Roasted together for about 35 minutes at 425 and the gnocchi is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Add some diced chicken or kielbasa and it's a complete meal.

I recently started working at a dollar tree in TN because things are really getting hard. I watch your food and DT videos to give me ideas and what to look for. I am trying to stretch my 20.00 food assistance card as far as it will go. Maybe you could throw in a "what to buy at DT for 20.00 a month to go as far as possible" lol

What I would do is buy rice and eggs to make a fried rice. You can purchase the pancake mix and syrup for breakfast, bread pb and j is good for sandwiches, those frozen veggies with a little oil and seasoning is a good side and I honestly think geting those 5lb bags of chicken quarters at Walmart or your local grocery store is best.

I love gnocchi! My favorite way to eat them is if you cook a braised beef (stew beef or oxtail) with onion, tomatoes, garlic, peppers, seasonings and slow cook them until it’s falling apart and has its own gravy - pan fry the gnocchi - put the meat and gravy on top of them and top with grated parm cheese and I swear it’s the best!

@@janeadams5207 I stock up on them so anytime I need peppers and onions they're available. I have to admit that I use the frozen more than fresh. Can't beat convenience! I don't let them thaw out before sautéing. I don't like the water added. But if added to the pan frozen, it seems to evaporate before changing the texture of them. I do toss any big chunks of ice. I've found that a couple of times only. I buy the sticks of butter, onion and garlic powder, jars of garlic, and sazon seasoning and bouillon. Do NOT buy the bouillon in the jars! It is straight up salt!I have a problem getting dehydrated, so I do buy water with electrolytes there. They even have Core.

When I sold Girl Scout cookies back in the 70s door to door, they were $1.25 a box. I would lug them around the neighborhood in a cardboard box with plastic handles. The neighbors loved them too. Dave, does "good and flaming" mean that you catch your marshmallow on fire and then blow it out? I like to toast my marshmallows until they are warm and squishy on the inside and then I catch them on fire and, pretty quickly, blow it out. I like just a slight char flavor! So good!

Definitely gonna have to check out the food at my local Dollar Trees! This may be a little off topic, but these days when things are so expensive, the tips below might help in addition to shopping at Dollar Tree for food and other items. Some Tips for 1-2 person households (or more).... I'm single/empty-nester so these work great for me. I buy 2-3 loaves of bread at one time and freeze all but one. Thaw in fridge. I do the same with Texas Toast (1 loaf) for when I get a hankering for French Toast or Breakfast Toasters ( like at Sonic, but better cuz, well, it's homemade lol When you buy hamburger or hot dog buns, take them out of the bag and put in freezer bags. I put 2 hot dog buns in one quart size bag and 1 burger bun in quart bag. Thaw in fridge. I'm in Texas so I buy the HEB Thick n Juicy frozen burger patties ( a little pricey but worth it). They don't take long to thaw so it should be ready when it's time to eat. If I only want one hot dog, leave the other in the bag and leave on counter or in pantry. Freezing them this way keeps them from spoiling and growing mold. Great for older kids when they get home from school as a snack (the hot dog) and babysitters, too, if they are going to be doing dinner for the kiddos. You can do this with tortillas, too, but I would advise taking them out of the bags and putting a piece of wax paper in between each one to make it easier to get the number out that you want. I would transfer them to a freezer bag or put back in original bag but put that in freezer bag if you want. I basically do the same with pork chops, steaks, chicken breasts. 1-2 pieces of meat (depending on size). After shopping I put them in the fridge until ready to put them in quart freezer bags. Be sure to label your bags with date bought & item(s) in the bag before you put the meat in; markers don't work well on bags with cold meat in them lol You can also season each bag of meat if desired before freezing. To thaw these meats, I get a big bowl, put the bag/s in and place a smaller heavy bowl on top and fill big bowl with water. Put in fridge. I haven't timed them, but I guarantee they thaw a LOT faster than just putting them in the fridge as is, especially pork chops and steaks. Chicken and the rolled ground beef take longer but should still be done the same day. I would put those 2 in fridge in the morning so they should be done by dinner time. I cook my chicken in my cock pot so I don't mind if they are still a Little frozen in the middle. TIP: If cooking chicken this way, season them then add some water around them then cook. I have found this helps them to moist and not so dried out. Personally I shred them immediately when I take them out of the crock pot and either use it all in a recipe OR store it in a Pyrex container. I love shredded bbq chicken sandwiches so when I want one, just take out the portion you want, mix with bbq sauce, heat it up and put it on your bun/bread! Great sandwich done in just a couple of minutes! I hope these help someone! Have a great day!

To save money on freezer bags, buy the gallon size and freeze your food items in a single layer on a sheet pan. When frozen, put them in a gallon freezer bag and then you can pull them out individually (they won’t stick together) without wasting an entire bag. Defrost your meat items on a plate or container in the fridge. Defrost your bun back in the original bag on the counter. This way you can also reuse your gallon bags, because when the last food item is removed from the freezer, it is way to wash out the bag out right away. I only buy 1 box of gallon freezer bags every couple of years with this method. It is far better for the environment as well.

@@DaniElle-di4ho I have found that putting the frozen meat in water then in the fridge makes it thaw much faster. For years I did it the way you suggested and it took way too long. Good idea, though, for more planned meals 👍🙂

My great find at the Dollar Tree- food grade plastic containers that come with the twist on lid. Comes in 2 qt and 3qt. I have started storing some of my beans, rice and pastas.. the rest are going into 5 gallon pickle buckets. Firehouse subs sells the containers with lids for $3. I bought a set of 6 real Gamma lids off of Amazon- $70.

I prefer my gnocchi fried in butter with salt and pepper and then when it's browned, you know like potato pancake brown, add it to the top sauces on grilled veggies. Columbia Pasta's are so great, stock up when you find them! they store well in a air tight bucket in the pantry.

I love the gnocchi from the dollar twenty five tree! I make a homemade Alfredo sauce and cook bite sized chicken on olive oil, add onion, garlic, mushroom, parmesan cheese, and fresh spinach, and cook the gnocchi in water and just add to chicken mixture. Stir to combine and enjoy!

We recently bought a food sealer. It’s been disheartening throwing out food with freezer burn. I’m excited about the sealer adding additional time to use the food. We just inventoried the freezer and pantry. We are trying to stay on top of things so as not to be wasteful. Love your videos! God Bless You!

I could be wrong, so please check, but, Freezer burn does not render food inedible . You might be able to use your food.

Shelf-stable gnocchi is perfect for pan frying. (Don't boil them before or you get goo. You're looking for a golden color with a light crisp.) Nigella Lawson recommends using freshly made gnocchi, which do give you lighter results, but the shelf-stable kind are good in a "I need a dense potato moment that somehow also has a little chew" kind of way.

Ooo! Pan frying! I may have to try that. I just can't really get on board with gnocchi because of the texture. The rest on my family like them though. I'll have to try frying them to see if I like that better.

If you have a chance to try Olive Garden's creamy chicken gnocchi soup you might like them more. They are also good frozen and stirfry in butter when frozen. by the time they are heated all the way thru they are nice and crunchy. Serve with sauted cherry tomatoes, onion, garlic and greens of choice.

Freezing tortillas is fantastic! I also stocked up on organic butter for $1.99 and pasture-raised whole eggs for scrambling in a carton for .50! They were expired in one day so I bought 20 And froze them all! Lol Now I take them out one by one and use them for French toast, quiche, pancakes etc. I still can’t believe they cost me .50 for the equivalent of one dozen of pasture raised eggs!!! There’s so much you can freeze. It’s definitely underrated!

Your husband is a man after my own heart, "it would be better with chocolate" - always! Gnocchi - SORTEDfood had a recipe recently where they made a fish pie where they used gnocchi for the potato topping. You could use the gnocchi where you would use any mashed potato. Shepherd's pie, tater-tot casserole, etc.

It’s more economical to stick to tortillas together (with a little mozzarella in the middle of the tortillas) and use that as a pizza crust base, you get 11 servings that way, the pizza crust was only 2

Harry & David is from my area (Southern Oregon). It's a specialty store that specializes in local fruits, chocolates and nuts. This cookie in my Harry & David store costs around $12 for a round 10oz. tin. Those little boxes ones look like over stock from what they include in the seasonal fruit baskets.
