My favourite cartridge. Well I've graduated to the 270 wsm but I've taken a lot of game with the good ole 270. It was my first hunting cartridge.

i live in south africa here we only license our barrels the rest you by over the counter with no paperwork needed the barrel license takes about 6 month's to get . love your channel learnt a lot from a legend like you

Love watching your videos, very informative! You are a perfectionist! I've wanted to build an elr .270 win for a long time. I think the 170gr bullet will give the .270 win the extra bit that it needed to be a better all rounder cartridge, high BC bullet and high sectional density and you've got a winner. Probably not the best elr cartridge but, still impressive what a 90 odd year old .270 win can achieve.. Hope to see more elr videos on the 270 in the future. Cheers from South Africa..

Oh Yeah the mighty .270 WIN. I have one in Browning BBR. Yep based on the 3006 case. I would have loved to do a .270 Ack improved. I have always maintained it has huge potential for Long Range for target/sniper ect. Great to see someone trying to use its potential. Cannot wait to see.

Currently playing around with my sako M995 TRGs (25 year old rifle) Using AR2209 50 grain ELDX 145 projectiles 14thou jump Managed 10mm groups at 100m can’t seem to improve on that. Probably need more range time. You two are awesome people! I’m just contemplating whether to use the action in the sako for a custom build or buy a new rifle of the shelf! Keep up the good work 👍

I have been hunting with the .270 Win for North American big game for nearly 50 years now. I have a 22" 1 in 9 twist barrel on my Rem mod 7600 and have taken large deer, elk and moose out to 585 yds using 150gr Rem Core Lokt soft nose bullets. I have no doubts as to whether your build will perform very well at the distances you envision. I cannot wait to see the finished build and ELD video! Thanks Mate!

The 270 can be a bit finicky with heavy bullets and the wrong powder. What are you presently loading? Try 129 gr. Barnes LRX, with 60.5 grains of 4381SC. COAL of 3.31” (2.700” to ogive), which maxes out in my Tikka. I get 3,085 fps in a 24” barrel. SD 4 & ES 9. With 0.68” MOA.

This is great! I was trying to decide on barrel length, and the 27" is about $20 cheaper! 😂 This is also the new diameter for the US NGSW bullet. Cartridge not decided, but it will be about like a full power .270. Cheers!

The traditional twist rate has always been 1:10”, which is pretty antiquated. When Winchester came out with the .270 WSM, in 2002, if they had improved the twist rate to 1:8”, we might never have heard of a .260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor. I love the .270 Win, but bullet selection had been poor until just recently, because of the twist rate. I typically use 129gr. Barnes LRX or 150gr. Partitions for hunting. You’ll find that the .270 cartilage is more efficient then the 7 Rem Mag. My best results have been with H4350 or H4381SC. Short throated .270 caliber rifles simply cannot obtain optimum results with slower burning 4831 type powders. I pretty much keep up with everything on social media on the .270 Win., and what you are doing here is totally unique. No one else is doing ELR with a .270 Win. Hats off to you!!

Where I live the 30-06 is a little too big for our white tails. A 243 is a little light, so I have both the 270 and the 270 short mag. Either one works well without too much waste. Can’t wait to see the results of you and Sam shooting.

Jack O'Connor, who was the first shooting editor for Outdoor Life magazine was known as "The Father of the. 270 Winchester. His claim was that any animal that could be hunted could be taken by the 270 Winchester using a 130gr. bullet of proper manufacturing. He traveled all over the world on hunts to prove his point as being true, writing about each hunt and having it published in Outdoor Life. As a young boy, I was fascinated by reading his stories and my very first rifle I bought was a. 270 Winchester. I still use it to take deer 62 years later.

Mark & Sam, an interesting video and I'm really interested to see how the project goes. I've always wondered why the .270 Winchester has not been a serious contender in LR & ELR considering the good case capacity and the high BCs of the the .277 projectiles. By the way I really like the .270 W for shooting game here in SW Scotland and my daughter adores her Sako 85 in .270 W - really accurate and such a confidence giver. Best wishes to you both.

I've got a LR 270 Winchester build and it out shoots most other mid caliber cartridges. I reload 150gr Nosler Accubond LR in front of 57.5 gr8 of IMR7828 and get 3100 fps.

Well, that bullet you have there seems to have a pretty fine BC? It looks rather elegant ;-) with the case capacity, in that long-ish barrel, you should see decent velocities...will be interesting to see!

Looks like you'll have a really nice rig there. Odd that folding stocks would be restricted. Here in the States, we have a lot of strange restrictions as well along with some potentially bad ones in the pipeline. It seems us harmless gun folk are not popular. I'm personally restricted to 500 meters at present because of the range I'm a member of. They don't own enough of Pennsylvania. I'm working on the good old 243 Winchester in an AR-10 style platform. Also, as I have to share the range, I'm running a "linear compensator" which is quite interesting. Brings the 243 up to 308 recoil level! LOL. Does as advertised for the blast noise though. So I'm sure people on adjacent benches are happy about that.

The mighty 270 Winchester is the cartridge I’ve been waiting for . I have no doubt that it will perform well at distance with those heavy Berger bullets . If you get around 2650 to 2750 or slightly more feet per second you should be very happy . What is the BC on those longsters ?

H1000 is a great slow burning powder should work very well for the 270 as you are going to use it with the larger bullets I use it in 6.5x284 Norma....
