Nice showing classic cartridges sir. People have forgotten how these , 270. Aught 6, still get the job done without fanfare. New wiz bang stuff is great and I have fallen may times for them many, many times, keeps interest, but the classics keep going and going. All I shoot now. Great to see you do work with the .270 win. I don't like recoil. I hunted with a .243 but felt it was a little light in caliber. So I went to the .270 win. It is a pleasant round to shoot in a sporter weight rifle I can make the long shots on dear with a 130gr bullet. My Uncle killed several Roosevelt elk with the 150 gr in .270 at moderate ranges dropped them on the spot no problem. Great round. Smooth shooter.

Excellent video, im a rifle builder from PA. Last year i built a 270win with a 27" 1:8twist to shoot the berger 170gr.Eol. i run 57.5gr. Of RX26, i was hoping for 2850fps too and im right at 3,000fps. With e.s. under 5fps, a couple times my labradar has read a "- "mark for e.s. meaning 0fps. I love classic calibers and the ballistics of my 270win are right on the heals of my 264win i built with 31" 1:8 twist that shoots the berger 144lrht 3,250fps

Nice chunker it is !!!!! From my peep at your shared rifle performance, in my opinion, the most consistent bullets at this stage, notwithstanding seating adjustments with 175grs you shot, would be between 145gr and 150+ and over time as you shoot graduate her up to 175 or to the highest bullet grain she can shoot....? Good video, the 270 will always be an icon, but new barrels takes patience with bullet weights, especially in a 270 that has a darn good stubborn barrel. Just a little breaking in and she will chunk them 175grs in the same hole all day...

Nice gun. I have never tried that powder. I use IMR 4831 and h 4831sc shoots well in my model 70 with a 22 inch barrel. My rifle is just a hunting rifle I have never shot it past 300 yards but the time I did shoot it at that distance. I could almost cover my 3 shot group with a quarter. Don't know if I could do that again though. Like I said though that's a really nice rifle and the scope maker I have heard nothing but good things.

Hi Mark. I've been following you for quite some time now. I've really enjoyed your Videos. This 270 Build you've done what weight Bullet are you using. I'm building up a 270 Win with the 28 inch Barrel. I 've had great luck with IMR 7828ssc with 150 grn bullets at over 3000fps. My 130grn Noslers were doing 3180 with a 26 inch Barrel. It really loves Reloader 22 and IMR 4350. The 4831 is also a great powder for it. I droppen a nice 4 point at 510yrds with that one. Dropped that deer like a freight train.

Not legal here, nor do the control recoil as well, so probably not something we would run out here too much with what we do any way, but I can imagine they would great at any shooting range or hunting, Cheers

What kind of powder would you use on a 145 eldx with that 28in barrel? Would you be using imr 4831, 4350, or would you use something slower like imr7828 or like rl23? Just kinda curious on your perspective.

The 270 performs excellently, as expected. Those few more inches of barrel and the slow powder pay dividends - around 3200 foot pounds by my reckoning, but velocity is what you're after, and time spent supersonic, energy per se is irrelevant. Except to nerds like me!

Since I'm a .270 fan and my son loves the 6.5 CM, I compared the 2. As I remember you had to go all the way out to 1300 yds or so before the 6.5 caught up to the .270 😁and that was velocity, not energy.

Hey, I was wondering if I wanted to reload my own ammo should I measure my powder charge according to weight or volume?
@brandonrastello7097
@brandonrastello7097 3 жыл бұрын
Weight is more consistent, usually you want to measure within 10th of a grain or better yet 100th of a grain if you can. Measuring by volume isn’t as consistent because some powders meter good and some don’t but all powders(mainly extruded) when vibrated can actually fill a case less with the same amount of weight so thats why measuring by volume isn’t as accurate measuring by weight.

I cant wait to do stuff like this! building a 300 PRC Bergara HMR with an Arken SH4 Gen2 MRAD, bipod and an Armalite style muzzle brake like you have on almost all of your rifles. Anyone have advice on what bullet is best for 300 PRC?

Just love seeing the mighty .270 rise up to the ELR ranks. So I know you can get Nosler .270 Brass, RWS, Sako ect but does Lapua make them as well??? I realise you do the same good prep on these cases, flash holes, weight or volume sorting, maybe neck turn. I am really looking forward to seeing just how much potential and accuracy is in the old girl. Along with VLD Bergers what other projectile options do you have available??? I don't know for sure but it's a good starting point for thinking.....looked like a figure 8..... he said that triggers were too wide and his finger was more sensitive to pressure with that thin piece of string......lol
