This is the beginning model with the new M4 Aluminum frame that features a 15mm sliding rear dropout, 29-inch wheels, and a 66.5-degree headtube angle. Specialized adorns this bike with the new SRAM SX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain as well as the reliable RockShox Recon 130mm fork. The modern geo and great spec should make this a hardtail trail ripper and a perfect bike to get on the trail and upgrade over time.

Having owned a 27.5+ and now the 2.6" 29s, I'd say the 27.5 are a nicer wheel for a hard tail, but only just a little. I'm running the same gearing as the 27.5+ had and find a little more top end. And the 29's roll a little easier than the 27.5+ did so I don't notice a problem while going uphill. Overall I'd say it's a wash between the two. On my medium Comp, I swapped the fork for a 34 Rhythm, drivetrain for XT 1x11, brakes for Shimano SLX 4 piston/2 piston and 200/180 rotors, and the seat post for a 150mm model. Overall it isn't much lighter, but it's much better.

Great review video!! I have the Fuse Comp on order right now in XL. I'm not sure if its the 2020 or the 2021. I was going to order the Roscoe 7, but they weren't going to be able to deliver the bike until April of 2021 at the earliest. The Fuse should arrive in November at the latest. I can't wait!!

Cheefus Smith I was looking everywhere for one. Someone on KZfaq told me to look at Val’s Cyclery in North Dakota. He shipped it free to Illinois. Absolutely love the bike.

I have this bike and after being on for most of the summer, I can say I love it EXCEPT for the entry level brakes. The tires, geo and drivetrain are excellent. The breaks on a 200lb guy coming down on a bumpy downhill give almost zero confidence. I suggest upgrading them if you get this bike.

good luck finding anything. the bike market is insane due to Covid. I just picked up a Fuse Comp 29 from craigslist a few hours ago - took 4 months to find one.

Does anyone else think the black stanchions on Recon forks have a silver look to them? Feel like my Reba's stanchions are a darker black. Just wondering if I am only one that sees it.

33 lbs is a bit chunky but that should come down with a tubeless setup. I'm not sure if there's a better moderately aggressive hardtail for the price point.

@@Jamesthebikeguy I picked up a Comp 29 last Friday. Very enjoyable machine. I'd say it's my favorite bike I've owned. And I'm coming from an Intense Recluse that was over 2x the price. I haven't weighed it but it feels close to the 33 lbs you showed (I got a medium). However it carries the weight well and doesn't seem heavy. I read a lot of reviews before buying and most of them mentioned the fork was a detractor. I assumed I wouldn't notice that as I don't ride super aggressive trails, but it's clearly less refined than the Pike or Fox 34 I've had on other bikes. It's adequate though.

This is about a year old now and the 2021 version will come with Deore 12 speed and Deore 4 pot brakes. Same forks etc though.

called couple bike shops. For beginners or people looking to get into mountain biking already thinking about getting a fuse bike, they recommend getting the rockhopper expert 2021 first to see how you like it before moving to the fuse, but the fuse looks hot.

@@Petrosmurf9, what wrong with the rockhopper. It is a Xc, Trail and jump bike all in one. It is probably the best all rounder. I ordered the sport version so i can upgrade it. What shall i do first?

Not that much better in terms of smoothness, it's certainly stiffer. Save your coins and get at least a Revelation.

The Fuse is a better bike for a more advanced rider as the Geo is helpful for that. Though if it was my first real MTB I'd look at the Trek

@@Jamesthebikeguy the thing is I'm 12 so saving up £300 for the fuse is a big problem and I want a bike soon I just sold my 'old's mtb so I'm left with a crappy old bmx the fuse has better specs and goe so I might as well wait till Christmas and hope I get closer to 1200 rather than 970 lol Do you know where there are any good deals in the uk

Big wheels with smaller tyres is what road cars have, smaller wheels with big tyres is what off roaders do, 27.5 with big tyres beats 29 imo

Yeah this would be a great place to start. You may end up having someone built a rear wheel for you, but that is common solution.

Can you say why you prefer the fuse 29 over the rockhopper expert 29? Which is better for someone transitioning from road biking to mountain biking/trail riding? Is the slacker head tube angle on the fuse 29 more comfortable than the rockhopper expert 29? I’m looking at these two specific bike, so further thoughts would be really appreciated - thank you!
