my first date with my current boyfriend / now fiance was going to the beach, he tried to plan everything perfectly. but it was the opposite, we were caught in a storm, he tried to act he was okay when he hit his head on the roof, accidentally put the wrong sunscreen that he had hives, but the effort was there. :)

We went to this expensive restaurant on the pier in Monterey. The place had been described as the best dinner spot for couples. We hardly got any time to talk to eachother because our waiter was outrageously flirting with me. It made us both uncomfortable. Our dinner cost us $67! We hardly ate anything because it tasted so bad. We still talk about that date, it goes to prove that just because something is more expensive, it doesn't make it better.

wow, about the cohabitation thing: my japanese husband and i met online, and when he first came to visit my country and meet me face to face, i rented us a one room apartment so we could make the most of the the five short days we had (i lived with my grandma, so him staying there was out of the question lol). we were super lovey-dovey online and already talking about possibly getting married if we got along well in real life, so i just wanted us to have that space to bond as a couple, rather than just going out together and me crashing at hotel room or something. from my perspective, i did a very practical thing, and he appreciated my arrangements, but i just now realize he must have been pretty weirded out by it!

My boyfriend was my first boyfriend and I was his first serious girlfriend (that last he had was when he was 12). I was 17 et we were both sooo shy. When I'm shy, I have this habit to say really random stuff and I always look so stupid. So when we were together for the first times, I would just say like : ''Did you know that there's different kind of bananas ?'' (I learned it that day and I was so impressed by that I just had to tell him... but it looks like everybody knows that except me) or ''Have you ever touched a cow ? '' And i would never stop talking even if it wasn't interesting. He told me that he tought I was cute (and special) ... So yeah, it was pretty awkward because we were both just so shy. We've never been on a real date before that so... But we've been together for almost 3 years now :) (I still say stupid things... but he do too ^^)

When I had my first date with my husband, I offered to drive his car. He was still new to the area and didn't know how to get to the restaurant I suggested. He was driving a Honda Accord, and the breaks are very touchy. I didn't know this since I have only driven my parents Ford Windstar. When I was trying to pull out of the parking lot and went to press the brake pedal to stop. Well, I pressed too hard too fast and slammed on the brakes. Both our seatbelt's locked up and we thrust forward. It was so embarrassing, but he was patient and understanding since he did the same thing when he first got the vehicle. LOL! Our first date was definitely eventful and has many more embarrassing and entertaining stories.

I went on a double that with my best friend a few years ago. We went to see a terrible movie at the cinema and later went to a cafe. It was so awkward that none of us talked. My friend ended up talking to her date via text even though he was sitting inches away from here. Despite the horrible day, I actually ended up going out with my date for a few months.

Me and my boyfriend work together and were uni together, we were friends first but our love of tea and walking made us less awkward around each other. There are differences he's Latvian/Russian and I'm Scottish and the cultures do clash sometime but he's medic and I'm do micro biology so talk for ages about science and things, we even just go to library to study a lot. He asked me out for tea after work and we talked for ages then he asked me to his girlfriend in Russian but I didn't know until fews weeks later what it meant, until a translated it on google then said yes :P. even these days hes goes off Russian saying romantic things I have no idea lol

You guys are funny. I hate amusement parks myself and am scared of rides also. When I first was dating my husband, we were at Disneyland and I kept riding the Matter Horn trying to "conquer my fear". I figured if I can rode it enough times round and round, that the fear would go away. I remember the worker there seeing that I kept getting in line...he said "boy, you must love this ride". Oh, no I didn't!

omg this made me think of my first valentine's day date with my boyfriend. I was so excited because I never had that with my exes. we either broke up before vday or we were doing a long distance. anyway he brought me to a nice restaurant, candle light dinner, roses, champagne, the works - but when we were actually seated and started dinner it was SO awkward for me because I was terrified of not being classy enough for the crowd there. it was a posh place and that was my first time fine dining. I was so so uncomfortable. thank God my boyfriend noticed, we gobbled up our food and went to my favourite pub for a beer and burger after and I felt much better there haha. I guess people should just stick to what they're comfortable with - or else you'd find yourself on a Viking ride and wondering why you said yes ;) I love these stories! good to know you can mess up a little and still end up marrying :)

Thanks for sharing your awkward moments when first dating. I also had a similar experience when my husbands father called him one day. He had not told his parents that we were living together and I answered the phone.....when asked who I was I had to say "housemate"....I felt terrible that I could not say his girlfriend as his father sounded quite nice.
