Excellent. You showed me that I can extend perhaps the clamp cable... several feet ...since my battery bank and the breaker panel are about 30 ft apart. Since the output is current...maybe it will have little effect at the inverter input. Therefore, I don't need to buy the extender limiter. I read somewhere .that if you have the clamp connected at the panel ..you better have at least a resistor to dissipate the current at the end or have it already connected to the inverter. Good Job!!!

Great Information. Well Done. I am considering buying a 1.5kw system with this grid tie inverter. my meter has a round dial and looks like an older model. Pretty sure I don't need to do this hack. But great that you figured it out. Helping the common man is a great thing you have done here. Is there a way to send the power to your battery automatically instead of it going to the grid?

You are lucky with this meter, you could just push energy to the grid and the meter will rotate backward. I can disconnect inverters manually (just one switch) to direct energy to the battery. Thanks for the kind feedback.

Hello! Do you think this inverter can work with 4 x 255W panels and no batteries? The panels are too big for the 1k inverter (VOC 38.7, VMP 30.6, 8.32A), so I think the 2k gives good room for expansion. The only configuration I can think of is two strings of 2, joined in parallel so 77.4V, 61.2V and 16.64A. It should be okay for the 45V-90V input but there is no DC amp input listed. Will 17.7A be okay? Do you think the dryer plug or direct into a two pole breaker is better, and for safety do you think the inverter should have DC and AC protection e.g breakers and shut off switches either side? Sorry for so many questions.
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, 1. 77.4V, 61.2V and 17.7A > yes it will work, inverter will pull as many amps as it needs in range of 0-17.7AA 2. two pole breaker is better > yes, separate 240V line with it's own breaker for inverter is better. 3.inverter should have DC and AC protection e.g breakers > 1 dc breaker, 1 ac double breaker should be fine Let me know if you have any other questions.

Great video !!! One question. What is the maximum input current for the limiter input? Do you have a data sheet? Could it be that you destroy you input if the input current goes higher than 50mA. I think the current of both sensors is added together so there is the danger that in the worst case the input current is higher than the allowed input current.

I have 14 battery modules. Each one has 12 lithium ion battery cells. The nominal voltage for each module is 3.7 * 12 = 44.4 , the charging voltage is 50.4v. The low discharging protection voltage is 36v. I want to charge the battery in the night and use the battery during the day for time-of-day purpose. I like what I am seeing here. If I use a limiter so I would like to have 2000w model which does not support input voltage as low as 36v. Is there a setting to adjust the input voltage? Thanks.
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
unfortunately, the minimum voltage cannot be adjusted. I think you have 2 options: 1. connect batteries in series to make 24cells battery, and charge cells up to 3.75V per cell to get 90V (not ideal, since you are going to lose some capacity) 2. buy few 1kw version inverters.

At 7:50 it appears you have set up your GTI as if it were connected to Solar Panels and not battery. In this mode it will use MPPT, if you use either of the other selectable limit modes and input a setting, it is my understanding from Mars Rock that MPPT is then disabled. I need help understanding how you set up the Menu for using batteries and a what I think is a stand alone MPPT Charge Controller (Outback/Midnite). Thank you as I know I ask/asked lots of questions and you have moved way beyond these little GTIs and are using SolArk now. The chart for my house looks similar. My base consumption is 230Watts so that is what I get from around 10PM until around 8:00AM when sun hits my panels. After 8:00AM until 6:00PM my meter reads between 0.000KW and 0.032Watts all day long. I want to have my batteries run at night and need to understand how you set up the GTIL Menu to run batteries at night and Solar during the day. Thank you! Mine works perfect during the day and I don't need to adjust anything (I have an excellent property for solar so my ground based panels are setup for "sunrise", "mid day", and "sunset").

Wondering if the 2kW inverter has the option to use it on a single leg (120V) and use a smaller battery bank (36V) I know it says DC input of minimum 45V but didn't know if it was possible if only using it for a smaller load. I know I can buy the 1kW version and it will do this fine, but I would like to leave room to build onto my battery bank. Love the videos, you have a lot of great information. One of the other things I was wondering on these units, can you have them put them on schedule? I have great off peak pricing and am looking for a way to use it to my advantage.
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
2kW model will work only in the range 45V - 90V (I think the starting voltage about 47 or 48V). It will not work for 120V, you'll need to buy 1kW model.. You could add a schedule option by adding a timer either on AC or DC side.

The inverter is design for 1 leg. USA has two legs combined at 240v. 120v per leg. The CT is design for 1 leg. If you split the CT's and run the inveter at 240vac split phase how does it know how to distribute an unbalanced load by doing this since there is only 1 input for the CT. If your fridge on leg 1 is drawing 200 watts at 120v and your washer on leg 2 is drawing 500 watts seems the inverter will put out 700 watts. Having that said. I assume each leg from the inverter is pushing back 350w per leg meaning. The fridge is getting 150 watts more witch goes back on the grid. The fridge is 150 watts short. As again seems to me you will be back feeding the grid with 150w. Can the inverter manipulate each leg vs each legs power draw. If not this idea is no good for USA split phase system. Seems the joining of the two CT's is adding up the watts for a 240v application. Again the concern is how it dustrbutes per leg. Thoughts?
@SolarEngineering
@SolarEngineering Жыл бұрын
you are right, inverter doesn't balance between legs. It works just because the meter doesn't measure consumption for leg1and leg2, only can measure total consumption for 2 legs together. So when we have load 1000w on L1 and 0w on L2, then inverter pushes 500W on each leg, but the inverter "sees" it as 0W consumption.
