A good fire warms you three times: once gathering and processing the materials, second the lit fire itself and thirdly the sense of connection to nature and something deeper than ourselves. Really enjoyed watching this. Something peaceful and could feel that natural connection with you just by watching. You have some beautiful countryside where you are too! God bless.

Very true, I love the jungle here. Glad you enjoyed it and God bless!

Well done Jim! Your video was just what I needed right now -- its currently 9°F where I am. I'll be warming myself soon by removing snow rather than building a toasty fire. 😉

Great job Jim! Great preparation and patience are key to success with damp wood and you showed us how it’s done. Cheers m8!

Good job Jim. Working with damp wood makes things much harder, but if it’s all you have, you have to make it work. Sometimes scraping up some “fuzz” along with the curls can give a good result when trying to get it to light.

Thanks, yup fuzz would have been great!

You’re the first person I’ve seen on YT cut a log the way I was taught! Cuts on four sides then break! Awesome! Your one log technique is spot on bud!

Jim don’t forget you have a swedge on the tip of the blade for splitting. Makes life a lot easier when splitting wood down for kindling m8
@bushcraftcostarica8086 ай бұрын
You're right, I forget the swedge all the time, I also need to remember to scrape as well! You definitely sold me on how useful that swedge is, now I just gotta remember m8! Lol

OK, I admit it. I would never try to process a log of that diameter with my trusty KABAR. I guess you leave the hatchets and axes home in the shed. That was an awesome video.

Glad you liked it! Yeah I have a tendency to just us a big blade, axes are great but for me this is more fun.
