People often ask us, “What if something happens to Tim while on the road? Would you two be able to get out?” And the simple answer is no, it would be bad. Marisa cannot ride a motorcycle, so Tim needs to be able to ride, or else we're stuck. And that’s the last thing we wanted to happen while we were in one of the most remote and cold camping spots on earth, and what's worse, we’re running out of clean water fast.
Welcome to our channel 2Up and Overloaded, we’re excited to have you along for the ride!

We are Tim and Marisa Notier, and we quit our jobs and sold everything 5 years ago to ride around the world two up on a motorcycle to follow our dreams. On this channel, we share our adventures with you, and everything we learn about traveling together on a motorcycle ➜ what to do, and what to avoid.

Thank you David. Yes, I (Marisa) plan on learning how to ride a motorcycle, but considering I haven't yet learned how to ride a bicycle, it'll be a little while. Also, I don't think I'll ever be able to ride our KTM just because it is so tall and in an emergency, I would rather get help via our satellite messenger than risk putting Tim on that bike with me driving... Could become a recipe for disaster. But either way, I will learn one day how to ride just because I like motorcycles and I like learning new things, and it sounds like fun! Thank you so much for watching and for the good advice!

My husband and I spent 18 months on our motorcycle traveling the US and Canada. I got sick with pneumonia while in Pittsburgh and was down for about a week. I’m thankful that I was in a major city where I could get medical treatment and that I had the comfort of a hotel. I have to say, I was a bit nervous for Marisa watching her walk through the wilderness alone to fetch water for you. I too do not know how to operate our Triumph Explorer. Maybe it’s time I learn :) I’m really glad that I happened to come across your channel.

Hahaha! Thanks so much! This is Marisa here, and I am also very glad there were no killer raccoons!! Yeah, it's for sure a terrible place to get sick like that, and I definitely had a moment of panic. Sounds like you should travel by car in the winter and bike in summer. Ever thought of buying a small egg shaped travel trailers to pull behind your bike? Then you could have more food, water, supplies, and heat! With a small power source like the YETI power bank with a solar panel, you’d have all the power you need. Coffee pot, heat, cook plate, lights, computer w/ movies, and heat or air. Let’s not forget a nice bed to be sick in!! Lol 😅. Glad you didn’t get to very sick from the virus. Stay prepared cause it will come back to visit you again!! Be safe , God Bless you.

Thank you so much Victoria for your advice and support. We actually go to lots of Overland Expos where we meet people traveling by four wheels who have great set ups just like what you described, and yes, we get jealous if them sometimes. Maybe one day we'll upgrade to a larger vehicle, but in the meantime, we like our two wheels. But you're right in that we have to continuously chase summer. Thanks again for watching and commenting!

Thank you and Happy New Year! We will definitely look into the iodine treatment. We also have a little UV light that zaps most bacteria in around 20 seconds, but the problem was the water was so silty. If it came down to it we would have drank it either filtered or boiled. But the little iodine drops sound pretty good as well. Thanks for tuning in and for the tip! We love reading your feedback, it helps push us on to create more content!

Scary! But a great video with the right music. Many of us have been in a similar situation, very sick but a long way from anywhere. While it is bad for the one who is sick it can be worse for the healthy one trying to do what they can to help but mostly worrying about all the "what if's". (If there is someone else along that is) When we are alone and very sick it may mean lay there and either recover or die, or try to get to a town. I don't know if this works, what if you use those old time coffee filters or paper towels in a colander to filter out the big stuff. I guess you're limited on what you can bring.
@2UpAndOverloaded

We actually have a water filter, but it would have clogged easily. If there wasn’t a fresh source of water we would have absolutely used it. But the coffee filter trick isn’t a bad idea to get ride of most of the large debris! Thanks for the tip and for tuning in!

great video...happy new year 2023 ready for more onscreen adventures from you guys as the yr picks up speed...grand Tim could ride one the 2nd day marisa was really sad that he wasn'd feeling good even went an extra step and sacrified her water, how much water do you guys carry??....marisa can't ride at all? or she can like ride a small dirt bike, say like a 2 stroke ktm...i thought she is a novice rider...."she knows her way around the bike, can ride shot distances"...but she got Tim😀

Thank you and happy new year! Marisa can’t ride a bicycle 😔 let alone our giant KTM. But she went the extra mile to hike all the way to the nearest store. We carry around 4 liters of water while on the bike, and try to camp by fresh water streams or will stock up at a store if we know we will be camping a few nights. We weren’t prepared for this unexpected illness, but Marisa saved the day!

Episode 50 starring Marisa Notier. Now I know you guys love your KTM, but consider this. If you were doing this on a Honda Monkey, Marisa could have just hopped on and run into town. And even if you carried just a bag of groceries, the "overloaded" part would still apply. Glad Tim survived. Being sick at home on your own couch watching back episodes of Notier's Frontiers is bad enough (I don't mean the videos), but a sleeping bag in a tent! At least you had some pod casts to pass the time. Okay, see you Saturday🙂

We do have a filter, and would have used it if there was no other options. Fresh water streams and lakes are great for that, but the lake at the end of the glacier runoff was pretty dirty and it would have clogged our filter. Thankfully there was a fresh stream not far away.
