No one knows how to rebuild this engine because no one has ever needed to rebuild this engine

It is so great to hear that everyone is getting more than 300K out of this motor. I have a 2001 Tundra with 425K and I am still getting 18hwy. Runs like a watch...Great Vid and great motor rebuild!

I have 478K on my 2005 4Runner V8 2UZFE engine. Timing belt every 90K although I get lazy sometimes I replace them by 130K. Oil change every 5K mobil 1. Tried using 0W 30 fully synthetic oil and engine runs smoother and quieter on morning start ups and the usual engine tick when cold is gone. Had to replace secondary air intake fan by 300K. Finally replaced serpentine tensionernd idler pulley. Its been way overdue wife heard the chirping when engine is cold almost 5 years ago because of these pulleys. This engine lasted 13 winters already and probably more.

Unusual to see this engine rebuild , very good job . This has to be the most bulletproof engine built by Toyota / Lexus by far !

Awesome rebuild guys! You did a thorough job and I found it inspiring that you got most of the parts online. Not sure how accurate those torques were when the engine was hanging from the jack lol. Wish we didn't have such cancerous rust problems here in the midwest or I might follow suit. Great video.

I also had a water problem in my 2002 Sequoia :-P. Just installed a used motor, runs great except a TPS issue. Great job with the rebuild!

Looks great man!! Did the timing belt on the family 04 sequoia at about 200k. I was worried to see the condition of the belt but was pleasantly surprised to see the belt in great shape! I was very tempted to put everything back together but figured since I was already more than half way into it to just go ahead and finish the job.

My 04 has almost 300k. That's towing every week, hauling and doing contractor work for the last 19 years. It runs like the day I bought it. Just change the oil every 5k and timing belt every 120k. Amsoil 25k and transmission fluid. I'm doing some pre-rebuild research here. thanks for posting. I'm definitely not buying a 100k dollar truck when the day comes.

Probably cost more to do than the car is worth (if you were paying a garage), but the satisfaction you get from rebuilding a badly damaged engine like this yourself is priceless. Have the same engine in my Sequoia, they are bulletproof (obviously not waterproof). Great job. Is it still running OK now?

I have put 200k of HARD driving on mine (at 310k now) . Bouncing off the limiter, Saskatchewan style -40 cold starts, towing WAY over capacity, late oil changes, ext.. I can't think of any other motor that would compare to this! BEST ENGINE EVER!! No I'm not trying to kill it.. I just do what I gotta do and this thing takes it on the chin:)

Nice video, Im rebuilding a 2004 Tundra 4.7L 2UZE also and this will help. I have two of them and will see which block is the best, the original one had a cracked upper oil pan which bblew into pieces for some reason. Asked Toyota about it since no crank or rods went through ?

I use Mobil one as well. Nothing but the best for the best.

The 2uz-fe is an awesome motor but 2 weaknesses. 1 the timing belt change.... its definitely a challenge doing it yourself but will save $1200 if the dealer does it. And the second weakness is the piston rods... they are weak so don't tune or try to raise the rev limiter in those trucks it's set to 5000 redline and I'm pretty sure 5500 in the 05 t0 06 model tundras with the 5spd autos. Other than that u got a 500k + engine. Very reliable

You guys were suspect till I saw the Mobil1. Yep, you legit.

The reason the connecting rods on the Tundra 2UZ-FE motors breaks is because they are cast. Same thing with the Sequoias. Both of those motors were assembled stateside. The 2UZ-FE motors that were made in Japan, the ones that went into the GX470, the land Cruiser and the 4Runners had drop forged connecting rods. Those things don't break easy, even under boost. This is the reason Toyota stopped selling TRD supercharger kits for the older tundras, because it would blow the rods.

Where did how learn how to do all this?

I have a 04 4runner awd with the 4.7 v8 and she's at 230 k and still running great but im looking to do a rebuild soon and the 4.7 is still kind of a legendary mystery to me and im scared to mess with it. Looking to turn it into an overlander in the future but i know that will take a while. Any advice on where to start?
