For a long time, we used to have the Bombardier snow plows clearing the snow off the sidewalks here in Ottawa, Ontarion, Canada. They were built by Bombarier Inc. a company started by Joseph-Armand Bombardier just outside of Montreal, Quebec. He is most famous for inventing the snow mobile, which he ended up calling Ski-doo, because of a misprint. It was supposed to be Ski-Dog, to connect it to Dog Sleds that were famously used by the Inuit and other Northern Peoples of Canada.

That's cool. And just so you know, that 250 I-6 can run between 195 to 220 degrees. If it runs at 150 degrees then it's running extra cool. If you ever change the engine's thermostat maybe you should put a 180-degree thermostat in it.

That's something special there, the older gentleman fixed it up, did alot, took a loss. Just to see it go in good hands, reminded me of my grandpa, fix up to get proper before he sold stuff. Don't run it full hard, on speed, not designed, will tear up that gear box, over heat it. Be really nice to see it sand blasted, restored. You got it for a pretty low price. Keep it tarred and take good care of it.

Very cool find, and in remarkable condition considering these lead pretty tough lives. Those used to be the standard issue sidewalk plows for any city I lived in growing up in the 70s-80s. Over time they were replaced with Trackless units which were a bit more versatile as they could be used in summer with different attachments like mowers and such. The Bombis were surprisingly quick, and could pretty much keep up with city surface traffic when going to or from the maintenance depots.

When you pull heavy loads, hook to the lowest point. The swinging drawbar will be your best power pull. It will keep the weight transfer further to the front, giving more traction and eliminating the front end lift. Much less strain on the machine.

REV limiter ????? Lol !! That old man would be wishing that thing has a rev limiter when he watches this video w this guy grinding gears , and what ur thinking was a. " rev limiter" was actually him " floating" the valves on that old straight six , which is what happens when u push a motor with hydraulic lifter way past it's intended. " red line" as this is when the valves due to cam lift and duration , which of course is engineered for low end torque in a , for all practical purposes " tractor engine" which is ment to turn low revs and produce as much torque as possible between 2,000 to tops 2800 rpm, is over revved to the point the valves can no longer either completely shut or completely open do to the high rpm, and high oil pressure caused from over revving, and because they no longer have time to completely move through their range of travel, for all practical purposes sit in the middle of their range of travel and just " FLOAT" definitely NOT something i can almost assure you ...... That the old man that rebuilt this machine would have EVER DREAMED of doing to his pride and joy !! Nor would anybody in their right mind do to something that they had invested that much money and energy into !!! But unfortunately for the cool snow machine ..... It has a new owner who thinks it's intended purpose is to be a tracked hot rod , for which it appears to him to have been built solely to see how much abuse and neglect it can take before it can no longer keep its tracks under its carriage, or possibly drivetrain before it haphazardly has no choice but to spit out pieces of said drivetrain all over its , backwoods racetrack .... So unfortunately for the old man and the old machine , it's new owner apparently finds pushing this cool old machine to its mechanical limits for his .... And to be fair our entertainment.... Or horror ig, depending on just how emotionally attached one may find themselves to an old snow machine..... Lol kinda sux to see such a kewl machine pushed towards these ends, but on the other hand. .. if it's going to happen..... At least he's recording it and I must say it's good entertainment either way to me ... Ig id rather be a witness to how much abuse this old machine could take before she explodes, then to have it happen, without all of us here to witness and share in the carnage 🫣🤐😂

I remember The City of Milwaukee using those to clear sidewalks back in the 80's. They worked in teams, one on each side of the street. Those plows were pretty fast and they would clear multiple blocks in no time flat. To this day ,I think they still are using newer versions of those Bombardiers to clear sidewalks and small parking lots.

Very nice. If I may make a suggestion; weld some front legs to your ramps so they stop the back dropping and lifting the front of the trailer when you back something heavy off. I've seen hitches bend/break doing this.
