Thank you for these videos, for how easy these small maintenance things are, it's saving hundreds if not thousands of labor pay at a dealership.

I literally did this this morning before you posted this video. Luckily... Did everything you did, reassuring. Cheers for another good upload!

Thanks for making these videos Mario. I recently picked up a 2016 1290SA and didn't know about the bleeder valve by the front master cylinder.

Thanks for the demo on bleeding front brakes . I have got air in my KTM Super Duke R I know what to do now . I did not know about the extra one bleed nipple by the brake grip. Thanks again .

Good stuff, thanks! One comment - I notice I have to lead the hose upwards to the canister, otherwise the air is just coming back from the canister and I cannot see when it is air free.

Kind of surprised you went the old-school way rather than using a vacuum bleeder, but nothing wrong with what works! Just recently mounted Galfer rotors on my Bonnie, I find it easier to use the vacuum tool when doing it as a one-man job.

Have yet to buy a vacuum bleeder. Always do it old school at the track/on the trail. Vacuum makes it easier to do by yourself tho.

Hi After you take the old oil out you put the new one and then you start to bleed it and keep filling it with oil until your done?

Just bled my breaks using your tutorial. Brakes felt squishy as hell but once I bled the top nipple near the reservoir it firmed right up. My brakes feel better than when it was new. Thank you!

Kinda on purpose. Happened to have Tyler's bike on the lift so shot the vifeo.

Very informative video, like always! However, what's the exact sequence when it comes to bleeding the caliper: two presses and hold down the lever/pedal then open and close the bleeder screw or keep pumping the lever/pedal with the screw open. I noticed you open and close the bleeder repeatedly. Is that so you don't loose too much of the new fluid? Thanks!
@2WR
@2WR 3 жыл бұрын
So, the number of presses doesn't matter; just want to build some pressure so sometimes a couple while other times more may be required. Cracking the bleeder depends too. On the rear I usually don't leave it open very long. The rear master cylinder doesn't have as much fluid.

Hey great vids! What is your take on overfilling brakefluid. Heard that if filled to much there is no expansion possible, causing the disk to overheat. Something like: press pads all the way in, pump the brake twice, then should be between min and max level?
@2WR
@2WR 3 жыл бұрын
As the fluid heats up, it expands which is why you don’t want to go passed the max line or you’ll have no room for expansion. It it’s overfilled it’s going to leak out of the point of least resistance and potentially cause some damage.

All depends what you want to do with the time. If you're touring, I'd want highway pegs. I would also at minimum due the SAS delete to free up space and limit fail points.

Im not sure this method get all the old fluid out. I push the pistons in to remove old fluid and then bleed.

I did this to my 17 Super Duke R and it didn't like it, by that I mean it threw an abs code. Apparently you have to use a pressure bleeder for the SDR's @ 30-40 psi otherwise will throw a abs code.

Interesting. Used this method on a handful of the KTM ADV bikes. Occasionally, I’ll use the reverse bleed method.

Does this push fluid through the ABS module? A mechanic told me that bikes with ABS have to be hooked up to a computer to pulsate the ABS module in order to flush it. That may apply to a specific bike but he made it sound general.
@2WR
@2WR 8 ай бұрын
No, it doesn’t. It’s also a minuscule amount.
@nathanmirolo451
@nathanmirolo451 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately this method leaves old fluid in the Bosch ABS module which also needs flushed to be a proper service. Was hoping you had worked a way to do that into this video. Otherwise a good explanation of basic brake bleeding.
@2WR
@2WR 3 жыл бұрын
Only way to get it out is use the basic method. Take your bike out, have the abs kick in and the bleed/flush is again
@2WR
@2WR 3 жыл бұрын
Change it often enough and it’ll keep it fresh anyway.
@pumrel

Dost the ABS need to be taken care of in some way?
@2WR
@2WR 3 жыл бұрын
You can but it’s not necessary. Follow what I did then go out and apply the brakes hard enough to activate ABS. That’ll release the small amount of fluid in the system out into the lines, then flush again.
