Are you considering changing the brake pads and brake fluids yourself on your KTM? This a very simple maintenance tasks you can easily do yourself. I will show you in this video how-to change the brake pads on the KTM and how to replace the brake fluid for the rear and front brake. If you are concerned about the ABS braking system- don't be! The procedure is the same as on any other bike without ABS.
The procedure is pretty much the same for the KTM 1190 Adventure, KTM 1090 Adventure and similar bikes including Non-KTM brands.

Thank you for this video. I changed my pads and fluid like I've always done, but I couldn't get the lever to go hard. Watching this video, I realised I'd missed the bleed nipple on the lever. Lever is rock hard now, and I think it's actually better than when I got the bike new 😊

@MotoVibes - Dude I love your videos man, always super informative & entertaining, especially for me in particular because in January I took delivery of my 2020 model year KTM 1290 SAS (except for some cosmetic changes there is nothing different between my 2020 KTM and yours). Thanks for the advice and walkthrough videos man, they are always saved into a playlist I have dedicated to the KTM SAS. You've been on some amazing routes. routes that id love to take my bike on one day. Ive been to the Alps a number of times but ive always flown there, your videos are inspiring me to make the journey from southern Spain or Lisbon, the two places where I live, though its a damn long journey to get to the alps from so far south & west Europe. My childhood group of friends and I all had motorbikes from age 9, just dirt bikes to explore the countryside in groups, and some years later we all got enduro bikes so we coukd use some roads so we could get to more distant places. Then we all ended up with cars and motorbikes kind of became just a memory from our youth. Anyway I decided that I would do my license and get my unrestricted motorbike license but none of my group of friends were interested in doing the same, so I have ended up being the only one out of my group of friends who has a motorbike, so I have ended up joining a couple of local groups of bikers that do regular group rides, which is great, however somethimes riding in such big groups is not so much fun. I still believe that you have the most enjoyment riding in small groups of maybe 2, 3, 4, or 5 bikes total because it is much more personal, it is much easier to agree amongst yourselves how your day should progress, and there is far less drama and issues arising when it is just a smaller group of bikes on a day or weekend out riding.Not to mention that small groups (especially of closer friends, or just people who ride the same) are so much less likely to have the issues of riders in the group with inflated egos which results in certain riders taking stupid risks and riding like idiots. It would be awesome to one day ride with you man, I'm glad to hear yyou say that you will be keeping your KTM for a while longer, it's for sure the best adventure bike on the market today. I'd love to hear you compare and contrast the BMW GS and the KTM SAS - most people get a GS and they never ever get a different motorbike, so hearing how your experience with the GS compares to your experience with the KTM I think would be valuabe information. Anyway keep well man and keep bringing us great videos with the awesome SAS. I have a gopro and all the gear needed to setup a moto vlog system but I just cannot imagine riding around and talking about stuff that people would find interesting. Perhaps I'm just more into the therapeutic value of riding in silence and extracting all the joy possible out of being out up in the mountain roads enjoying the scenery and continuously trying to improve my riding skills. Peace dude

Thank you for the nice comment and feedback - congrats your 1290 SAS! Good choice 😎 Reaching the alps from southern Spain is a bit of a trip but you have the Pyrenese mountain range which is about the same distance for you as the alps are for me 😉 AND living in southern Europe you get to enjoy a much longer season of riding (probably pretty much all year around I assume). As I have said in one of my last videos I re-discovered ridding again for myself but very similar to you there are very few others among my immediate friends that share the same passion. Then again I do meet lots of people through this hobby. I do a fair share of solo riding but enjoy riding in groups of different sizes too. I hope I get down to southern Spain one day on my own bike - certainly not this year but it is on the list (the list is getting longer). My dad is considering to move to Spain - the whole pandemic put his plans on hold for now. If you already own a GoPro start using it - I have recorded long before I ever did anything with the footage. The video editing was the biggest hurdle and a bit of a learning curve for me but there are great tutorials on youtube to help you get started. Now it is nice to capture some of the memories and to share them. I still enjoy the therapeutic value of riding - just gets my mind of everything else for a while - best days are rides of 800 or 900 km in a day. I am tired afterwards but very content 😎 Ride safe & stay healthy! cheers!

I would have removed the pads spayed the caliper with brake cleaner making sure the exposed pistons were clean and then opened the bleed valve and pushed the caliper in to empty the old fluid out of the caliper making sure the piston was all the way in then fit pads and bleed the system. Thanks for taking the time in making the video which was very helpful.

A nice 'how to'. I'm pleased you said not to bother with the one way valve kit as I thought it seemed a good idea, but I'll take your advice and stick to my length of tube. Let us know what you think of the Brembo red pads in a video some time 👍 Stay safe mate
@MotoVibes
@MotoVibes 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nick. I thought I would try something different with the one way valve but it just ended up in a total mess. On the Harley I installed special bleed valves on the calipers that did the same thing - worked much better that the in-line valve in the tubing. I am going keep it simple going forward with some short tubing and an empty jam glass 😂 I have some experience witht the red brembo pads - I installed them on my BMW R 1200 GS but did not do anything crazy with them and evenually sold the bike. I am looking forward to a track training in a couple of weeks - let's see how the pads do there.

Quick tip when bleeding brakes when you have carried out bleeding tie a cable tie/zip tie around brake lever to handlebar grip and leave it till next day repeat bleeding this will ensure every air bubble is removed 👍 For rear hang a weight of the rear brake lever to hold it down overnight

I co NM completed the brake bleed on a 1090. There's no bleeder for the Master cylinder on the 1090. I have a squishy front brake. I know there's no air in the lines I flushed them many times, ensuring no air went back in. I believe the air is trapped in the master cylinder or something? I'm leaving my brake lever pulled in overnight to see if that helps... Any advice helps. I heard bleeding the Master with the banjo screw, but idk where that is

Hi Ollie I completely lost use of my back brake whilst coming down a small set of bends in Wales I was informed that this is a common fault with KTM’s And to resolve it I would need to swap the brake fluid to a high temperature or race fluid ? Have you heard of this fault ?
@MotoVibes
@MotoVibes 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, I have not had this issue as of yet. As far as I know the KTM already comes with DOT 5.1 brake fluid which is a high temperature brake fluid. I do not apply the rear brake at all for normal riding - I only use it for slow turns, off-road riding and emergency braking (usually in training that is). The KTM as a combined braking system which means the rear always gets applied proportionally to the front brake if only the front brake is applied. I hope that helps

Tolle videos... weiter so. Gruss axel
@MotoVibes
@MotoVibes 3 жыл бұрын
Vielen Dank Axel.
