On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Glad to see that people are finally starting to realise how ridiculous the MiG-31BM is. Huge, powerful radar with extremely powerful AAMs (R-37M, R-77-1, R-74) and it goes stupidly quick and high. It's somewhat of a one trick pony but damn it's a good trick

@@johnwurfel2862 Yeah stealth isnt invisibility, even if your radar cross-section is like a bird, no bird flies at mach 1, but as mentioned above, good luck trying to keep lock onto it. I guess If we took f22 and mig 31 and combined we would get the future fighter jet, heavy and clunky, with extremely powerful engines, to lift insanely heavy and big radar + stealth and insane missles, pretty much the BVR killing machine, the times of dogfighting and cool stuff are over :(

Block 70 F-16's have better radar, and would make quick work of it in BVR. F-15EX would too. As for the R-37, all info we have on its capabilities is from Russian claims. So take it with a grain of salt

@@loganday5470 Zalson-M Radar. Range of 250 Miles against AWAC sized targets. About 150 miles against fighter jets sized targets. Versus the APG-83 Radar in the new F-16, with a range of 230 Miles against similar size targets, and over 300 against AWAC sized targets. What's your point?

Yeah...not fun to just suddenly blow up and die when you have no idea that the enemy is even there. BVR lethality wins...and then the counter to that becomes undetectable stealth+AWACS-enhanced BVR capability.

Every GS BVR video drives home the point that you can never carry enough Fox-3s. You're going to throw away 3 just forcing your opponent to defend so you can get close enough to kill him with the 4th.

@@3081s1k It looks like Russia has been developing a new generation of missiles. Izdeliye 180-PD => Ram-jet version of the R-77. Russia's answer to the European Meteor AAM. Izdeliye 810 => Su-57's long range weapon. (Providing MiG-31 capability to their stealthy platform). Izdeliye 300M => Russia's answer to the AIM-9X, AIM-132 ASRAAM, etc.

This video and the previous one **REALLY** makes me appreciate the 5th gen fighters now. The F-22 was built with the mantra of "first look, first shot, first kill", and that that was exactly what was going on here. Doesn't matter how good your turn rate is when you can't even push to the merge with Mig-31s because you just get popped from miles away.

I'm old enough to remember when this thing first came out. The BIG deals were the incredible speed (carried on from the Mig 25), but the biggest deal was the radar and it's ability to "look down/shoot down". I would love to see how the GAME models radar acquisition ranges of aircraft that would likely make up a modern day strike package. I didn't see it in the video.....but was lock EVER achieved by our brave "Morons"?😋😋

Considering the Foxhound's R-33 or R-37 depending on which missile is being used by Mig-31 Foxhound, the missile has far superior range which is why they can easily shoot down the F-16C

Think of the R-37 as the Russian AIM-54 Phoenix. Only difference is, both The Foxhound and said Missile are still in service to this day while the F-14 and AIM-54 Phoenix is not

@@razorback139 the Both the R-33 and the R-37 (MiG31 missiles) are much more maneuverable than the Phoenix. The MiG31 is also faster than the F-14 (consequentially better missile launch speed) and his PESA radar is far more powerful.

@@FranciscoPartidas until today? That they would have probably gotten better than today’s MiG31, after the fall of the USSR Russia’s technological progress slowed down a lot. But in the 80s the F-14 was still upgraded, and the MiG31 already massively outranged it at the time. Other than the massive radar the high speed and high operational altitude of the MiG31 are big advantages

@@airbornestuff Besides, the Zazlon is not just any PESA radar, it was the first radar in the world with electronic scanning back in 1981, imagine that the latest version of 2001 is even much superior. When an interceptor like the Mig-31 flies so high and fast its destructive power is very great, basically it has all the advantages.

F-22 aside, I think the Mirage might unironically be the best shot at this deal. It's really good at getting in and out of the notch quickly, and it seems to be extra slippery once you're in. And if you could get a serious Mirage notch-master like OldSauveur, I think you'd really have a good chance. A handgun beats a knife, a rifle beats a handgun, artillery beats a rifle. Want to take out the artillery? Send in a guy with a knife.

2 F-35s vs 2 MiG-31s. Since this R-37 just became operational in 2019. Let's compare apples to apples.

Well sort of. There is an important difference. The Mig-31 is a BVR interceptor, while the F-35 is a BVR air superiority fighter. The mig will be able to engage at longer distances because it has a long range radar specifically made to take shots much further than any other plane, a couple hundred kilometers in fact . The F-35 is more of a goldy lochs plane. It is more designed towards a BVR engagement at minimal range. The rockets that it usually carries are not meant for vast distances. After all, you can only have so much room for an internally mounted rocket. It uses it's stealth to get close enough to take a reliable shot and the idea is that once the enemy discovers the plane it is far too late. The F-22 would be a closer competitor, as it has super cruise capabilities and a bit more optimized for long range engagements.

The only problem with them is their lack of stealth. Against a plane with an equally powerful radar, or one that has much greater stealth capabilities allowing it to get closer, it runs into problems. Still though, an insane plane lmao

Looking the Mig31 up, it's a big plane, 50,000 kg with the biggest radar ever in a fighter class Jet.... @@JonasCVogt That’s the max speed allowed under normal circumstances. The airframe and engines are actually good for a little over Mach 3. But like the MiG-25 doing so risks doing irreparable damage to the engines so in general they are temperature limited to 2.83 to safeguard the engines.

And this is why the old Mig-31 is no joke. It should be noted that the only air to air kill (at least officially admitted) by the Iraqi air force on an American aircraft was done with the older Mig-25. That Iraqi pilot used his Mig-25 in exactly the manner it was designed to be used doing long range hit and run BVR attacks and then retreating on full afterburner moving at tremendous speeds. The Mig-31 is only slightly slower, but has better maneuverability, better radar, a WSO, networking capability, and IR sensors as backup. It also has more fuel efficient engines and a much longer range. It is no doubt the best high-speed interceptor aircraft in the world currently.

Not really needed the 5th gens. There are couple more 4, 4.5th gen fighters wich can make the mig-31s job a little harder. Like Eurofighter Typhoon, Mirage, Rafaele, Grippen. I think with the Typhoon especially with the newest upgrade FGR4 (In DCS I dont think it is exists) you can "see" them and shoot them before they "see" you. In DCS with the Typhoon need to give a try. But I dont think he will give a try... I requesting this like 3 videos ago, nothing yet. I think he hate me, or I have no idea. But I will keep requesting it.

You need to try the F-15 v the Mig-31, I'd like to see that. Both aircrafts at top speed, maybe the f-15 could get away from those big missiles the mig-31 is spearing

Absolutely NOT. Those missiles move at speeds over Mach 5 which is hypersonic. The fastest any F-15 with a clean setup is Mach 2.3 man. It would get slaughtered just like the F-16 and F-14 did. They designed the MiG-31 Foxhound to be THE fastest, highest range, and hardest hitting high speed interception fighter ever built, and it does that flawlessly.

GS actually shot down a missile with his own missile in another video, so it can be done. But I think getting either a heat- or radar lock on a missile is super hard and you’d need a lot of luck to pull it off. Guns are not very useful because these things come at you with mach 5, by the time it’s in range of your guns, it’s already hit you

i'm not a big fan of the foxhound .. but man i am now 😁 ... i got in love with it just bcuz of how it performs amazingly and easily troubles such good pilot like you first i watched the one where u go with an f-14 ... and i said u probably failed bcuz of the f-14's low maneuverability rate ...but in this video in the Viper a plane with good amount of acceleration and maneuverability and having the same result .. it really means that the foxhound is something

The S-500 is an anti-ballistic missile system, not an anti-aircraft system. It replaces the A-135, not the S-3/400.

Christ this is like a terror film…the missiles from the MiG-31s are so unforgiving! Either the MiG-31’s own PESA are really good against notching and can guide the R-37M, or the R-37M itself is jacked. Definitely not an easy fight!

MIG 31 has the biggest most powerful radar on any Russian fighter. Maybe not the most advanced though. That would probably go to SU 57's AESA radars. But they're always modernizing so who knows.

Iam pretty sure you can do it with the Eurofighter Typhoon! Just give it a try. With the mighty meteor missile. But I think in DCS you dont have the FGR4 Modification of it. Or I dont know. But give it a try. I think you can make it with the Eurofighter. If not, time to bring some 5th gen stealth fighters.
