I am a small, blind, 22 year old makeup obsessed ginger woman who has a cute guide dog named Olga! Did I mention blind and makeup in the same sentence..? Yes people! I know this is slightly unusual but I am here to prove that you can do anything if you are determined enough! Let’s break boundaries and change perceptions together - disability doesn’t ever hold you back!

Fab video, it’s good to know everyone goes through same worries as a blind woman.

Hi Lucy, I totally understand having periods and can’t see. When are used to have my. It was a big mess. Meaning I didn’t know I had blood on my shirt until people would tell me. And that’s how they knew when I was on my period because even though I would wash my hands when I was done in the potty. I didn’t know that my period wound up on my workshirts or just my every day clothes. And the only Way I know that is my coworkers females will tell me and I will have to change my work shirt. Or I will go around all day and then my sisters would tell me and then I would have to run in the house and change my transformer shirt. So having your period and you can’t see is bad. I told my sister if I had some vision it wouldn’t be as messy.

I’m not blind but I’m a wheelchair user and my skin is pretty numb so I can’t really feel any leaks- what I do is when I’m transferring I quickly feel my seat and trousers. Maybe that can help if you’re blind? Like slip your hand under like when you sit on your hands? I dunno. Also I always use nighttime pads too but I suppose I’m lucky because if I do leak no one will see it, yay for wheelchairs hiding things 😅😅

Such a great video as always Lucy, and I thoroughly enjoyed both Chloe's and Holly's contributions. As a blind girl myself, I can totally relate to so many aspects of what you were discussing. It's great that we're bringing a topic that is somehow still considered taboo into the open where it belongs. As you all said, there's no shame. :)

Love this! Destigmatising natural bodily functions is SO important. 🙌 Especially to help young girls. Thanks for the great content as usual, Lucy. PS. Holly & Chloe have such soothing voices!

I’m sighted, and finished having periods 6 years ago. You mentioned smell, suddenly I was back decades and could smell it, a really unique smell.

Love this discussion, ladies! Sorry for the long comment in advance: I'm not visually impaired but I have to say that since I decided to go for it and invest in some period underwear (I got several pairs on offer, so they were still quite expensive but at least I got a lot of pairs), since I've had them it's changed the game for me. I'll still use pads on the first few days alongside them, but I've found the pants very useful for the days leading up to a period. When you think you're due on but it hasn't started, I used to waste a lot of pads when I thought my period was coming but actually was a week or more later, and now I just wear the underwear for peace of mind in that time. Almost like a backup. I've had mine about 6 months and it's made my period more care-free. I don't know how the different brands compare and it's a shame how expensive they are but if you can afford to splurge I would recommend giving them a go! :) Sorry this was a long comment.

I was looking into pants but it says you need to use pads with them the pants are just a secondary protection for accidentally leaks so I was like not worth money I don’t have lol

Hi Lucy! That is a really important topic and the video is fantastic. I absolutely love your channel. I thought that you may find this video about menstrual cups and blindness interesting. I hope that you do not mind me dropping a link here: Is menstrual cup a good solution for blind and partially sighted ladies❓

I just remembered my first holiday with my boyfriend and I think I cried the first night because I'd got my period and I had to explain why I didn't want to share a bed with him. Like I didn't want him to cuddle me in the night and I'd leak all over him and the whole room or something. 😂😅 It took me so long to feel confident to tell him I'd got my period because until then I'd never really had any conversations with anyone about it. Of course he was very understanding even if he didn't fully understand what happens and just asked me what he could do to help and we got through it just fine. Sometimes we do make periods out to be worse than they are (I do acknowledge that some people have very difficult periods), but often the more we talk about it and destigmatise it the better. Through honest discussion we can find better ways to deal with it and relate to others going through the same things.

Not the best thing for a clueless bloke like me to watch straight after having my tea. Very interesting, although my stomach disagrees.
