@@speakatron5634 Exactly! It makes no sense and is a glaring plot hole. I’ve never read the books, but based on what I’ve heard, they’re infinitely better than what this series delivered on and I doubt this was a part of the original story - or if it was, it was handled a lot better.

In the books the confusion doesn’t even arise until the beginning of the second book. The Trisolarans didn’t care enough to understand human anatomy before departing for earth. Evan’s “lord” later mentioned that the terms thought and speak didn’t appear synonymous with humans. Evans explained how human anatomy separates the two. The trisolaran labeled it a weakness, and Evan’s then uses the little red riding hood story to explain the concept of deceit. Trisolarans realize they can’t trust the adventists. Anyways, you said decades but the sophons were installed on earth only a couple months ago in the present timeline. So instant conversation between Evan’s and Trisolarans was a recent development.

It's on Amazon Prime. Despite what book purists may say, it mostly feels like a drag and takes too long to get to the point, but it's almost a 1 to 1 copy of the first book, it's no wonder why the director felt the need to create a 26 episodes cut. I think people just like to think they're smarter for having read the books when the whole trilogy is carried by ideas rather than characters. Wang Miao is one of the most boring protagonists i've ever seen in the books (they tried to humanize him a little better in the Tencent show) and the VR sections of the book extend for too long, but they do go into detail of each iteration of a calendar, which is interesting.

Excellent breakdown, much appreciated. As a physicist, not having read the books, I would hope that the writer(s) tapped into the fact that if the photon can do those things as shown in the series, then we could also do the same things, considering how universal the laws of physics is (if correct). A principle we already study was brought out in the series, quantum entanglement, so it makes sense why they would target accelerator-based physics, so high energy beams/physics would eventually lead to us forming photon-pairs and manipulate them as in the show, making their technology understood/useless as a weapon. So, by revealing the proton-pair evolution, they are indirectly telling us how to beat them.

I personally loved it❤. I have watched both the Netflix and the Tencent adaptation and neither is perfect but they are both respectful of the source material which is the delectable part for me, as a book reader. What I liked about the Netflix one is that despite the creative changes that they made they definitely kept the all the main plot points in the story and I got the same feelings and reactions watching certain scenes that when I first read them in the books. This is for me a proof that they didn't miss the mark in capturing the essence of the story. One issue I had is that the tone of the show was almost too humorous compared to the book which is quite dark in tone. But I get why they did it, it can't be too depressing if we want to get a second and third season greenlit 😅. All in all, I was agreably surprised and I hope we get the Dark Forest season 2..

She was happy because it means they plan on communicating with her way more often. The remaining “cult” members turn into trisolaran assassins instead of a welcoming party to coexist with humans. They need to physically eliminate him using humans since the sophons aren’t capable.

I watched Tencent's Three-Body TV series, and although some parts were long and boring, I liked every character. Their humanity is complex and their emotions are abundant. The director logically elaborated on a lot of scientific issues. And Netflix's TV series is like a boring speed read. The characters are not like scientists, but a group of rebellious American teenagers who drink, drug, fuck, adolescent troubles. On top of that, Ye Wenjie is my favorite character, but Netflix has portrayed her as an angry, weak cult leader. In addition, Tencent's TV series is about the governments and militaries of various countries working together to save humanity. In the Netflix version, there are only a few employees of the British government, and the governments of other countries seem to have little effect.

I really enjoyed this season. Is it perfect? No, but adapting books to tv and movies never is. I think people are being overly critical because there's still a lot of animosity towards D and D over them blowing the last few seasons of thrones. The diverse cast didn't feel forced like most of the other recent projects. They didnt focus of how humanity responds to learning that there is life out there and that its coming to earth but i think that was a good choice because this seasons objective was to introduce and flesh out the aliens, the threat they pose, their technology, and the hurdles humans face trying to defeat them. Ie this season was all about the problem, allowing next season to focus on humanity dealing with the revelations of the aliens and them coming to earth. All in all this season was a vast improvement from the last season of tv d and d made. S8 of GOT.

I really enjoyed this series but something stands out as strange to me. That guy that has been talking to his "LORD" (the aliens) are a collective consciousness kind of like the borg. He has clearly been communicating with them for quite some time yet the concept of FICTION was never explained to the aliens in all their talks? Him reading little red riding hood was really the first time this came up in their chats? That part seemed strange to me.

3 Body Problem and Black Mirror seriously makes me think that we are entering a new golden age of sci fi epics which had been absent since the early 80s with Alien, The Thing and Blade Runner ... Finally with these 2 series sci fi is making the next big stride since that which was taken by 1982's Blade Runner, (nope I do not consider any of Denis Villeneuve's sci fi movies great at all as they are just rehashes of whats been done before) ... I'm really encouraged that there will be more sci fi movies of such greatness coming up ....

@@chriscomp20 Agreed. The San-Ti are stupid in human standards. They are aliens who do not understand humanity or how humanity works. They don't even know what a religion is. All they know is cooperation and survival since that is all they know after surviving every chaotic era in their world. It took centuries until the events of the third book to know how to deceive, manipulate, and lie. The books also admit that the San-Ti are mentally less intelligent compared to humans and just have the advantage of being far older than humanity to create their futuristic technology. The San-Ti even admit that if humanity progressed and had the same futuristic technology as they do, the San-Ti might lose the war despite having an advantage.

I did not mind the changes made for the Netflix adaptation. Liu Ji, Wang Mao, and Xin Cheng and Yun Tianming being changed for this adaptation were understandable as well. However, the thing that made me so frustrated was that they cut and rushed so many key events from the 3 body problem into 6 episodes. (Yes I know there are 8, the other two set up for Dark Forest and Death's End) Another thing that really made me frustrated was the bastardisation of Ye Wenjie as a character. Although I do hope the show gets picked up for a second season. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and it makes me even more concerned for the rest of the seasons. Pleasantly surprised to find Netflix made this science fiction into its series. I wasted no time and finished its first season, 8 episodes overnight. The base of the original story lines of the book series remains intact but the key background location of where it's happening has changed from Beijing to London, and subsequently the characters as well, from mostly Chinese to a mix of different races living in UK. Understandable changes when considering its global target audience, but those changes confused me a lot at the beginning. Whether you read the book or not, I would assume that you'll find it pretty entertaining overall. And if you find it difficult or too slow in the beginning, it gets better and clearer once you patiently bear through the first 3~4 episodes. Lastly, I believe Netflix should have made and released maybe about 4 episodes more for its initial season that would've covered the diabolical first battle.

I bet MT read second book but not third, ‘cause he explained that Wallfacers are from book 2, but didn’t mention that Wade and Will on a rocketship came straight from book 3.

The negativity makes me want to join the eto. I really don't understand people lol ... Im a huge fan of both the books and tencent show, a huge fan asoiaf and loath dnd for what they butchered that, but cmon, this show is not that bad... Its ok, with a few brilliant moments as well as some baffling decisions. Its better than i thought it would be in some ways tbh. Dont understand why people just hate lol

I'm confused on how they managed to get the Sophons to earth in the first place. I get the concept of how they were created, how did they create them and then get them to earth in the few years or months of even learning about earth.

They were sent from the ship. They are the size of protons. Protons can easily be accelerated to speeds incredibly close to the speed of light. It still took decades to get to Earth - but not centuries like the ship would take.

What a waste of a complex multilayered story. Horrible production quality. Looks like they had a million dollar production. Lazy storytelling. Frustrating
