Camping, bushcraft and survival for 3 days of adventure in the bush.
This solo trip is where I learn how to be just as comfortable in the wild during the summer as I am in the winter. I built this off-grid tent shack with my own hands. It's not perfect, but it actually is perfect. It's stood strong for 2 years and it's not slowing down. This is my little bush camp paradise in the world and I love it. I have been learning and teaching myself over the last few years to be better in the wilderness, to get comfortable, to test myself, and stand up to my fears. I'm not young, but I believe I am living my best life when I do the stuff that is new to me.
Join me as I make delicious food, drink strong coffee, make a ladder that falls apart, ration my drinking water, make fires, start the wood stove, do some fishing and swat mosquitoes in the wilderness in Canada's North.
Feel free to like and sub if you enjoyed this video and are looking for more.
Have a great day.
Jay

Good to see you having some fun on your place in the summer Jay! I’ve done quite a bit of backpacking and kayak camping, and I’ve always carried a water filter. You can get one for pretty cheap, and it’s well worth it. I even filter rain water. I’ve never had any issues.

Hi Jay , You only need to boil water for 3 minutes . Ay more it will taste ' flat' . A Berkey filter is what you really want to feel completely safe without boiling. You need a cast iron frying pan and Dutch Oven for your camp cooking. Great seeing you in the ' Soft Water' season. Stay safe from the fires this summer my friend. Ontario Canada.

How precious is water in our lives. From farming to forests, to rivers and lakes to everyday life. Yet how we pollute everything we touch. We can live longer I'm sure without food than we could without water 💧. Imagine if flies were nutrional, but...ewhh...they ain't. Little "bug"ers! We'd also think about drinking 🚱 that lake water. Glad it rained so you at least got some less risky water. Enjoyed this video and know there's more to come. Enjoy.

Hi Jay, try putting a layer of Reflectix bubble wrap from the hardware store that has a small bubble wrap middle layer sealed in a durable layer of aluminum foil, directly on top of your cot, then build your foam and whatever on top of that. Don't put it directly under your wool blanket or sleeping bag. Put it on your cot and then build your foam layer and so forth on top of that. Warm!

Hi Jay, really good to see you at the tent, this is the reason I am subscribed to your channel. I like seeing you at the tent and enjoying yourself and keeping us entertained. I don't really care about campers in a campground. I can see the excitement in your face when at the tent. I am absolutely convinced that if you take the lake water and boil it for 20 minutes, you will be fine. When in town, go to a water company and get a sterile container and have a sample of your lake water analyzed. It will make you feel better.

Thanks John. I agree, the tent can't be beat. But it is so much easier to access in the winter and that's a big reason I rarely go there when it's open water. That said, it was a good experience this trip.

I learned something from this video. It was rather subtle, so you might have missed it. When he used the t shirt to filter the water, he placed the shirt all the way down into the bottle and essentially lined the bottle with it. By doing that, he did not lose any water by pouring too fast, as may have happened if he had just placed the shirt over the mouth of the bottle. If any of you have ever poured sand through a funnel, you would understand it is much easier to control the withdrawal rate of the shirt from the bottle than it is to control the pour rate into the bottle such that you don't exceed the rate at which the shirt material can allow the water to pass through.

Hey there Jay I have a van that i go camping in. I got stuff to have on hand in case of emergencies. One is a filter straw. You can filter pond water through it and it makes the water safe to drink. All you do is hang it. It drains into a bag really fast. I got it from Amazon. It was under 20 bucks. There are other ones too. For a lot more money theres the Berky water filter. It doesnt take power it just drains into the bottom. Anyway, just some fyi's for ya. Then you wont have to worry about not having enough water. Have fun out there, be safe, and God bless

Jay, awesome vid. Just a thought, why don't you have any water purifying tablets in your pack. There cheap, and they work. Also get yourself a teflon coated pan, and a tin plate. when you eat out of the pots you are using to cook with, you tend to scratch the bottom which causes food to stick. The old timers used cast iron, because they didn't have light weight teflon pans. they are also so easy to clean. Look forward to your next video.

Good to still you progressing with the out doors Jay. I can share my knowledge with you with this . Get your self a water filtration setup. Some are garther a pouch of water , hook filter on and squeeze into another container, they work great . Plus, remember, you can boil off some water to kill things off like beaver fever and other things . And on to the fishing pole, you are using it upside down . And there should be a roller button on the side of the reel to agust the tension on the line . Its there to use fast sets or play . Plus its there for different tension sized line . Take a min and hold it in your left hand , y . It looks to be a right hand crank when its held in the right position. Its not a bad thing to bring some water out for emergency but don't bank on it for all the time drinking trust in a filter they work. If and when you boil water can can always bring some coffee pot filters out to clean up the water from ash and debree . . Buy 2 cooking pans from a secent hand store and hang them up at camp. I have the pot /cups and love it but can't find the pot here in n.y but a pan will help with cooking different things that are a pain in the ass to cook in the pots and another tip for not busting your balls and over working your body when you need the energy, cut wood now so you are perpeard for winter . Its a life saver in the end and you will not get all hot and sweaty then very cold after . Buy a hatchet to leave at camp for kindling and a hammer . Just some tips from a outdoorsy guy . Take what I say to heart . It "could "save your life oneday . Thanks for making the video

@@jaylegere the reel you are using there is a closed faced reel. You use your thumb on the release button by pushing down and holding it down at first. Then release at the appropriate moment in your casting motion to cast out your line. They work pretty good but the last time in the boat you were using spinning rods. And maybe a baitcaster but not sure on that one. That had to have been difficult using it that way in the video. Some night crawlers work wonders from the bank.

Jay, you listened about the fire starters so. Buy a sawyer water filter the do not cost much and is good for 100,000 gallons 20 dollars. Next get a brace and bit set, gives you a drill/driver and friction fire starter. Get nail of few sizes, and outdoor screws of different sizes. Brace can take screw driver bits and a chuck if you need small bits. On hanging food keep it far away from the trunk where they can jump on to it, gear was right on what you brought.

Just to add some info on water filters and the sawyer products such as the Sawyer squeeze. First would be filtration which would take care of most 99.9% of bacteria, Protozoa, and other water borne bugs. It does not filter viruses which in North America are typically not a concern. If it was Arsenic that was a concern then Sawyer makes an S3 squeeze purifier which will remove the hard metals and arsenic.

Knowing the water is safe to drink, get a Sawyer micro water filter. 1 filter will filter 100,00 gallons of drinking water..you wouldn't have to chug water with you. I take one with me on my camping trip to North Bay,Sudbury, Timmons...ect. I still boil the water after filtering it,for extra measure. Make sure to back flush it for next use. boil or filter the water Jay!!!! Filtering with a Sawyer or a BeFree or Life straw should get rid of the arsenic. The water I had to filter on the PCT was pretty gross but came out just fine with a sawyer. Gravity fed systems for the sawyer are sub 30$

Jay, my long lost Instant Coffee drinking brother... I look forward to seeing the September trip to the tent. Hope you get the time to go. I enjoyed the way you highlighted your use of water. We all should be more aware of our use of these natural resources. Great content! Thanks again.

Glad you got out to the tent/shack and saw a few things and tidied up.. Hope you didn't forget to close the hole up for the stove? Hope you catch a fish next time and bring more water. Glad you had a nice time.😉

I love your videos. Next time you head out bring a hammer and an old coffee tin. Take out all the old nails before you burn the lumber and store them in the coffee tin. You never know when you’ll need a nail.

Nice assortment of gear for a 3 day camp. I noticed thought that you don't have an IFAK. Given you're like an hour from any help, if not longer, having a trauma kit or IFAK, complete with tourniquet, trauma gauze for heavy wounds would be a good item to add. They make really good kits these days that are compact and be worn on a hiking kit no problem.

Get a travel Berkey when staying at the tent, this is what a lot of full time van/trailer people use that can’t get to town use.

I'm like 6 months behind, but was going to suggest when you finish the Evian you should take some lake water back into town to get tested.
