It's almost April and it's this cold! -32 is no joke. Thankfully, I have a great little camp that keeps me warm in these frigid temps. Join me for fatty fried food, a warm stove, and some magical northern lights.

That stove is pretty amazing. 5 hours of heat is really long for something that size. Thanks again for a segment of those Northern Lights too. Fascinatingly beautiful. Glad to see a short burst of winter while there's still squeaky snow on the ground. Soon enough you'll be back in the canoe trying to catch a big one for dinner.

Man that food looked so good, loved the closeups and the northern lights never disappoint, just amazing. On the backdraft I wonder if you could increase the angle of the hood at the top of the pipe to block the wind better, ask Jerry he may know. Thanks Jay for another great episode...

When my stove backdrafts it’s usually due to the weather, a low pressure system is most likely to blame. If the stove is burning low sometimes the outdoor section of your pipe gets so cold that it allows cold air to fall down and push the warm air and smoke out of the stove. Not much you can do other than not allowing it to cool down to that point.

Another great video Jay. I can’t believe the draft on your new stove. I went camping a few years ago and it got down to 14F , had to get up and go outside to pee in just my boxers and t-shirt, that was bad enough and can’t imagine doing it at -40 🥶. Now we have Mr Buddy heaters and a pee jug, because your right it’s hard to get back to sleep when you get cold. Stay safe till next time

Hi Jay! Really enjoy your channel. Keep them coming. I’m a bit of a wood stove aficionado as well, and always enjoy your experiences with them. Re. your backdraft problem, been there. I would have to agree with J Douglas, the wind is sneaking under your swivelling chimney cap. I have made one for my ice hut chimney out of an old metal decoy that used to belong to my father in law. I mounted it on top of the pipe, but have the angle so the wind can’t pass over the top of the pipe. Works great. No more backdraft👍 Thanks again for you vids. Ken in Saskatoon

Handling that broom like a hockey stick! Pure Canadian right there! Loving the fire starter, very cool Pete! I love the cooking shots the most, I can appreciate how hot that stove must be in order to cook on it like that! It surprises me how good you cook, given your taste hindrance. I know how good that food would be, watching and knowing what you do. I also know a deep fried boot tastes good if you are hungry enough. You seem very comfortable with these videos, so I know it tastes like it looks! Yeah, a fricking pee bucket. IT'S MINUS 30C out there! There is nothing worse then gearing up for those sorts of temperatures and then once walking out the door, having to pee. Sounds stupid, but it happens right away and urgently. Everyone pees, it is a normal thing for everyone. Turn your back, so no one sees the faucet is normal stuff. If you disagree, by all means go pee outside and let it freeze to your pant legs.

As you talk about pee buckets, it reminds of some forgotten terms that were used down here in the south, in Georgia, that have a literal meaning. Piss poor: poor families use to pee in a pot, and sell it to a tannery, cause urine was used to tan hides. So poor you don’t have a pot to piss in: Well, that’s one that doesn’t need explanation. Love your videos.

Forget the p bucket. Get a garden hose dig a small trench down the hill to bury the hose deeper as you go then a larger hole at the end of the hose, backfill with stone and charcoal for drainage. Find a funnel to fit your end of the hose and run it up a stick inside the tent. Flush with boiling water to clean. Invest in a good hose
