Bertram - Craft and Wilderness

Bertram - Craft and Wilderness

3 жыл бұрын

3 days in Denmark - basecamp in pine forrest close to sea. Open the full video description to read more.
----------------------------
Date: July 2021
Day: 10-25°C (50-77°F)
Night: 5-15°C (41-59°F)
Hours of daylight = 18
Location: Scandinavia, the west coast of Denmark - sea, spruce/pine and hardwood forrest. Some of the most remote in Denmark, but there are a lot of people in Denmark, so limited how remote it can get. A lot of birds and deers etc. No bears, only a few wolves - nothing dangerous for campers.
_________________
Consuming: Water, pine tea - cow meat with onions, potatoes, salt and chili.
_________________
A few questions:
1. Why cut the grass?
To clear a small area to set up the tent. It is easy to loose gear in tall grass and the grass is also useful to make a softer bed. A lot of ticks here, but I am one of the lucky ones who never get any. The risk of snake problems is low in Denmark.
2. Why add sand/dirt under the stove?
Fire safety. The stove give off a lot of heat and it dries out the near by ground and can ignite example grass, moss etc. In this case is sand and water used to prevent it. Stones is an easier options, but in this case am I close to a big sea and here is only sand, no stones.
3. What tent and stove are you using?
The tent is made by "Tschum" and is the 4P light version tschum.de/product_info.php?in...
The Stove is a Poshehonka size M, basic version tschum.de/product_info.php?in...
4. What did you use to start the fire?
Fatwood from a pine tree and a ferro rod.
5. How long did it rain?
Most of day 2 and 3.... Not ideal for me, but was grat for nature - it has been dry here in Denmark for a while.
6. How far is the sea from the tent?
20-30 minutes hiking.
7. What was flying around in the campsite doing night?
Bats. They probably have a home in a near by tree. The pound provide the bats with food/insects.
8. In the last video was you in Sapmi and was planning on staying for a while - has the plan changed?
Yes - I am back in Denmark and is going to stay for a few months. I will be back in Sapmi to fall, when the mosquito season is over.
_________________
Some of the gear used in the video:
1. Pants = made by "Klattermusen"
2. Tent = made by "Tschum" model "KATUN 4P Light"
3. Wood stove = Poshehonka M basic
4. Axe and knife = homemade

I've missed your videos man... A family member saw me watching your videos once, and it was difficult explaining that it's not just a dude camping, but much, much more than that. It's appreciating life. It's admiring nature's ingenuity and artistic touch. It's living a life of freedom and oneness with our mother. It's art. And only someone that has spent some time in nature alone is able to understand it. The rest just see a dude camping.

Well said. I’m a hunter and the additional immersive element that solo hunting adds to your comments is how I’ve lived in my camping, hunting, bushcrafting life. I see it all as Spiritual and Nature…my Church. Anti-hunters too often assume that hunters only go to the woods to kill everything they see. Guys who love and respect the outdoors, in the bush experiences, are typically more measured, calmer in life in general too, in my experience. We know why we can’t get enough of it.

Death was everywhere here, but death was simple, understandable, wise in its own way, even fair: leaves and needles flew from trees and rotted in the ground, broke under a heavy bear paw and bushes dried up, the grass became the prey of a deer, and he himself - a pack of wolves. . Death was closely, inextricably intertwined with life - and therefore not terrible.

The only thing ugly about our world is humanity. We are horrible, greedy beings by nature.
