Listen in as 3 people pitch creative services to author of The Win Without Pitching Manifesto, Blair Enns. Is it possible to sell to a sales expert? Watch this real life sales pitch go down on Clubhouse. The two magic questions that were used:
"Is there anything that you're doing that could use some external expertise that you don't have in-house?"
"I was wondering if there's something you think about, that you think could be doing better, you know as an Entrepreneur, things that keep you up at night, you know I'm not performing well there."

@The Futur , Not sure you'll see this, but it seems to me the premise of contact is highly skewed in favor of Chris. Here we had roll play from 2 people where regardless of how they started or played their roll, Blair was immediately cued-in to the purpose of those conversations from the start. In fact it was well described what their intent was before they even started. The reason Chris seemed to "get the jump" on Blair (again, as it appears to me) is because the premise that brings them together in the first place had nothing to do with identifying a problem Blair didn't plan on articulating at first. Is it just me?
@shawnieleaf2277
@shawnieleaf2277 3 жыл бұрын
@@brianckelley I agree. The students were also essentially cold calling Briar, however Chris’s conversation felt more natural and I feel like he was able to get farther because they already have an established relationship with one another (so it’s essentially like re-nurturing a lead rather than acquiring a new one). I think a more apples to apples comparison would have been a stronger example to illustrate, but I am still grateful for the video regardless.

The thing that isn't mentioned here is the #1 thing in Win Without Pitching - establishing your self as an authority in the mind of the prospect. Chris is obviously an authority in the design world, and even in the context of the conversation, Chris is the interviewer, he has total authority. That's the power element. Then your focus in the questioning and the references to his book and admiration for his work is the presence, and the warmth, on top of the position of power, it takes to come across as incredibly charismatic in a conversation.
@thefutur
@thefutur 3 жыл бұрын
What can you apply to your next sales call?
@benwalkeryt
@benwalkeryt 3 жыл бұрын
@@thefutur I'm always trying to apply the stuff from Blairs books. All my scripts and processes are based off his stuff, but the main thing I apply all the time is that you need to be constantly striving to increase your expertise, because when you're an expert it's much easier to slip into that role of a consultant and facilitator, rather than a salesperson. Also - the The Dan Sullivan Question - it's a book Blair referenced in Pricing Creativity as part of the value conversation, and I got the book to learn more and tried it out, it's really, really effective when asked with curiosity. You really get an idea of what the prospect is imagining for themselves in the future, and you can see how you could maybe help them create that future, and it really excites and inspires people to go through that thought experiment of what's possible.

I think what's crucial about learning how to sell like this is that you're guiding the prospect through telling you what they need themselves rather than you telling them what they need, so they're in essence selling themselves, becoming aware of the need, and you're there at the end to deliver what has been shown to be their biggest need. Everyone likes the sound of their own voice and if they come to the conclusion as to what they need on their own, their is really no selling left to do.

I've done 7000 sales in Telecom over 3 years, and done sales coaching B2B. I immediately picked up on Chris going into a need analysis mode to look for sales keys when talking to Blair. It felt a little bit awkward to me though. I felt the tension of not trying to get caught selling. So if I was to give some advice, it would be to: 1. Be more assertive when asking questions. Think of it like asking a friend about a movie. You don't really think about your speech pattern, you just ask. 2. Don't ask people if they want to spend money. You're giving the client an incentive to say "No". You're a sales person, he's a future client. Of course he will he paying for it, because you know your value. 3. Blair already sold himself when stating that he'll need a designer. Now it's just your job to finalize the details and get the contract signed. In essential this is a sales conversation: - Greeting - Make prospect to talk about themselves - Ask questions leading to sales opportunities - Look for problems / plot holes in the prospect's story - Use facts to remove fear - Create trust by showing expertise - Provide solution to fill the holes - Get acceptance to move forward - Finalize details - Future Expectations - Ask if you can help with anything else - Welcome Client - End call I worked in B2C customer service, with inbound sales as a value add to the call. Basically an undercover sales department. We got trained to solve a customer's telephone/internet issue, while running them through a subtle sales call procedure, and end the call with sales finalized within 10 minutes. I sold approximately for $120k a month alone just through customer service, with a 200% HIT rate at my best. (Basically means every caller bought two products each) I had around 100 calls each day, so in a month, I did around 2000 sales calls. I sucked in the start with 0 sales in a week, so don't give up. Everyone can learn sales. I loved Blair's analysis in this video. Fantastic content. I'm a Sales Person learning branding, so these videos were such a nostalgia trip for me. Thank you 😄👏🏼

This is so spot on Chris. I'm an introverted designer like you were and would forever kill my ability because I felt like an imposter among my peers and trying to 'sell' too hard to people instead of asking and listening. But what really helped me was to make make meetings much more conversational, asking lots of questions of the people I met with. And do you what, everything flowed so much better, I got to find out information and issues the client would of normally been reluctant to discuss willingly and discuss possible solutions. As a result i now have more productive and useful discovery sessions, my new business prospects are more confident because by being a friend they start to develop trust and open up. So yes, let go yourself, be a friend and ASK, ...DON'T TELL.

Value-packed video. So much to learn from the way Chris approached the sale. We have to be proactive in identifying areas where we can add value. It’s our responsibility to ensure that we're not just offering services, but truly addressing the pain points and aspirations of our clients. Just having an authentic conversation, and asking value questions with a genuine heart and an intention to help will be far more effective and appreciated by the client than many high-pressure sales that just try to "get the close" in any way possible.

Couldn't agree more with this , you guys are so so lucky to learn this from this video or content from this channel.I had to be in the streets learning my mistakes iterating and developing on my own. I am still learning and looking for good mentors and this channel couldn't be any better. I respect you guys as what you are providing is something that cannot me be learnt in an easy way. Lots of love from India.

Masterclass, as per usual. I hope your viewers also understand how important it is to not "show too much" of their projected plan and how they'll solve the problem. There are evil people who want to mine strategic thinking and creative direction. Personally experienced this as a young professional. Looking forward for the next one, Chris. Onwards that 1 billion goal. Looks like have more superfans.

What Blair said about homeschooled kids is so true. I get asked all the time "how about your children's social skills". Well, they talk to kids and adults with confidence. Love this video Chris! I wish could ask Blair more about the LMS aspect of his business.
