I'm turning the Feywild into a playable realm for our Dungeons and Dragons campaign, focusing in this video on three Finnish fairy tales to inspire your game.

Some good story ideas here, thank you. A few thoughts on the mouse bride idea: 1) make it that the character has to actually marry the mouse before she turns back into a princess. This will give them the fun of trying to persuade a priest to marry them. 2) who is responsible for changing the princess into a mouse, and what was their reason for doing so? Does the princess know who did it? IF she does, then make it that she cannot talk about it until she is married, and thus a princess again. Plus, what is their reaction when the players being the princess back to the kingdom? Possibilities include: a) someone that the princess's parents slighted, and has extracted revenge by changing the princess into a mouse, so similar to Sleeping Beauty, except changed into a mouse instead of being put to sleep. b) a member of the princess's family who wanted the princess out of the way so that they would inherit the throne on her father's death. This could mean than on returning the princess to her kingdom the party have to help her remove the usurper. c) the princess or one of her young relatives was in training to become a wizard or sorcerer, tried to cast a spell, it went wrong and changed the princess into a mouse. The caster was not powerful enough to reverse the spell. (a) or (b) are more likely, as (c) is less likely to have getting married as the way to undo the spell. They also fit more with the fairy tale trope. 3) do the princess's parents (if they are still alive) know that she was changed into a mouse or do they think that she just disappeared? 4) how old was the princess when she was changed into a mouse? The standard fairy tale trope is that she would be just on the verge of becoming a woman rather than a child, Disney tends to set this to 16 in most of their adaptions, but historically it would be younger. This could affect what she knows of her parent's kingdom and there various people who live there. You could even have a case where the princess was that young that she does not even know that she was a princess, she just remembers that her family lived in a big house in the centre of the city and there were a lot of other people in the house. 5) how long has the princess been a mouse and what has happened to the kingdom in that time? Presuming that she continues to age at a human rate rather than that of a mouse. Her parents might have had another child who has been brought up expecting to inherit the throne, if so what is their reaction to the return of the princess. The princess's parents might have passed away and some relative has inherited the throne (whether or not they were involved in the princess becoming the mouse or not). Most of the above presumes that the mouse princess is in line to inherit the kingdom on her father's death.

Love these! I'm building my own Miyazaki/Feywild setting and running a pair of campaigns now at different time periods. One is "primordial" when the border between realms is permeable and spirits, fae, and titans rule the land. The other is during "wanderlust" a sort of frontier period two to three thousand years later. The Fae are playing a large role in both stories already and so I'm developing my court and world building within these realms, so these videos have been CLUTCH. I look forward to seeing more of your work!

I might actually steal your time periods for our feywild, that's so good!

That fox story is almost identical to Puss in Boots. Of course it’s common for fairy tales to be very similar as the story spreads and gets distorted in the telling.

I've been thinking more about the contrary story and The Inn at the End of the Road from The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, and I think I came up with a fun idea: a shy and timid maid who came to Bavlorna (or whatever sister ruling the splinter real where you put the inn) and asked her to help her - her parents are very strict, and she wants to stop doing what she's told. Bavlorna smiles and grants her wish - and now she always has to do the opposite. I'd play her as angry and contrary like in the original story. Once the party cancels her deal, they meet her again - now happy and with her free will.

the fox: basically Puss In Boots. Can't remember which is earlier, or if they're both based on something else.

Puss in Boots I believe is originally from the 1600s. The fairy tale book I used was published in 1922, but it shares much older folk tales. In other words, I have NO idea!
