Hope they update the cutting tool too have the option to add a pegs or a guided pin after cutting the object to help aligned the pieces properly

Now they just need to add keys and holes for when you slice a model. That way alignment is way easier.

I was going to comment on this, and this is the first comment I see. I'd like them to have this where I could create a male or female key in a cylinder, some sort of square, or a hexagon, and automatically detect where it was cut, create the proper plug for it.

@@jasonc212 it’s one of the main things I’m looking for. I have a few large files and one for a Tarrasque the size of a small dog. The sculpted didn’t make the pieces where it’s easy to print on anything smaller than a Jupiter. So that feature on Lychee would be perfect.

Supports and hollowing are my pitfalls of resin printing. I love Lychee and this just makes it even better. Thanks for covering this!

You can slice/cut by sections in Meshmixer as well, just select the area you want to cut, and inside the selection edit mode use plane cut. You should then see the cut only in the area selected. Lychee is nice, I use it myself but Mesh mixer is years ahead of Lychee in many features regarding mesh manipulation. Using those together is the way for sure.

It's also just cool to have everything in one place in stead of cutting stuff up in meshmixer then exporting them then importing them to lychee. Just convenient

@@Nu_Chowe I also just did the same cut I made in the video in Meshmixer using the Selection Edit / Cut function and it screwed up the file and wouldn't repair properly in meshmixer. Probably user error but right with you on having it all in one spot

Yeah but don’t you end up with multiple objects? It would also have cut into the body in multiple points and the model wouldn’t be “solid” But love that it is actually available in meshmixer. The gift that keeps on giving 🤣

I wanted this for al ong time. I'm mostly working with mechincal geometric shapes and it was quite a chore in some cases. Take for example a turbine wheel, every blade by hand up to now.

Thanks for showing these updates! A feature I’d love to see in any slicer, in addition to the planar slicer, would be a key generator to make realignment points for post-print assembly. I can make them in mesh mixer, but it’s tedious.

As someone who's designing their own figures for print suction detection and inline supports are going to be HUGE! Those two tools alone are going to save me a tone of time & money! Up until now it's just been a lot of trial & error to find that balance between natural seamlines for keying, orientation, and optimal hole & support placement. These are some INCREDIBLY useful updates!

can you export stl after the cutout? that would be game changer, you can do clean cuts in lychee and then export the cuts to continue editing other apps

Not to correct you but formware slicer has had all three of these features for a long while. While it's great to see them coming to new slicers, I think it's important to be accurate when saying that no other slicer has them

I loved Lychee but it does not support my printer specifically. I would have to do the work in Lychee then export as a .stl file than open it again in chitubox than slice it there, but since i have zero issues right now with chitubox i might as well just skip the Lychee step.....for now.

Oh my god that planar slice tool is gonna be awesome for digital kitbashing. Microsoft's 3D Builder can do it just as easily as you showed here, but is missing that ability to deselect parts you don't want cut. Now if Lychee can just make their auto repair tool as good as Microsoft's we can ditch 3D Builder completely!

Another nice video. I finally got a resin printer (Elegoo Mars 2 Pro) and was checking out chitubox and lychee to see which I liked better. Honestly these added features are nice but just not worth the amount they want. I wish they would do something like Lightburn does and say, buy it for $40-$60 and get 1 year of updates free, after that buy another year for $20 or whatever. I hate the subscription models everyone is going to! It help the company of course but for the end user it just sux. Oh and for the cut I would have done like others, cut model, keep both halves, move top, cut sword keep both halves, move sword end, put top back on and print. A few extra steps but again, not worth the $7 a month TO ME ANYWAY....just my PERSONAL opinion on the matter cause people freak out. Isn't the inline support pretty much like prusa painting supports?

Super stoked for these features! Point of note though is that Meshmixer totally can do planar slicing to select areas of a model, but you do have to select the geometry ahead of time so it's not as easy as this. I hope they add a "Deselect All" button to the planar slice tool.

You can cut/slice 3D files in Microsoft 3D Builder, for free. It’s pretty simple and straight forward actually, and I think that software doesn’t get all the attention it deserves for what it does.

I agree with you that windows 3D builder deserves more credit, especially with it's option to extrude pictures (black and white) into 3D models, while the slice tool does allow you to bisect a part but not select what will and will not be cut before you apply it, like lychee here :)

Actually Preform also have the suctioncup detection. As well as some industrial printers like those from Carbon3D. It is very important to achieve high quality printing without vacuum!

Hey @uncleJessy ! I know the point was to demo the new feature, but just to help you w/ zbrush skills: You can append a plane set it to negative, turn on boolean, and use dynamic > Thickness to slice tools to separate parts. Hope that helps!

Lychee slicer is great, but everyone should know that their red = potential issue feature is usually not an issue. I've created models that were airtight and convex, all boxes checked, and it still imports with a problem. I honestly think it's an underhanded thing they do where they probably mark a minor warning as a major issue, to try and get more to subscribe. That said, actually having new, time saving features will actually get me to buy a pro license.

The slice model function would have been even better if it created Lego type scenario. Does that make sense? So it would have a dent on 1 part and a bump on the other. So when you glue them back this would help align or even snap snap together.

With Meshmixer it will slice all the way through but you can select part of the sliced parts, save it as a separate file, then combine the remaining parts back together. It isn't as easy as Lychee but it's not so far off either.

Isn't the problem with cutting that it creates a flat surface with no means to reconnect them back together unless you drill holes I guess and use something to help hold them together?
