My favorite surprise shot! Bummer though when it is windy. That can take the shot out.

Tip 4: Use wrist to disguise the lob. Tip 5: Hit it after hitting a very short dink that just clears the net. Opponent will have been stepping into the NVZ and having to reset outside the NVZ line so they are not in a stable position to start running down the lob.
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how using more wrist would disguise it more. You can still disguise it very well without the use of the wrist. Tip #5 is a good tip.

I don’t typically lob on a volley but that seems to have a higher success rate than a dink. Will try that more often 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

I love doing an offensive lob! I hate being on the receiving end. LOL Particularly if my opponent is really good at executing them and they do them often. What a way to frustrate opponents! I like them when they fall short because that becomes a sure put-away. It's nice to see the lob coming back with a good reputation among more skilled players. :)

Great tip. I sometimes end up playing with guys that are 6'3" and I'm 5'5. Daunting at the net but the lob, or them just knowing I can do this, is helpful.
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
It’s still very possible, but playing someone that tall, I’d probably think twice!

I'm a left handed player and all the videos are right handed players (most people are) any suggestions on playing. I love this game and want to improve my playing. Is watching videos a good way to learn and then play. I do not know how to gauge if I am doing things wrong and how to adjust. Started playing 5 months ago.

Studying video is a great way to get better. All the basic principles and all the things we teach can apply to left handers as well. We hope to do some videos that are specific to lefties in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

Awesome! Happy to hear it :) offensive lob is becoming more relevant in the game as of late.

Lobs are very effective when done correctly. I sometimes use deeper lob from the base line when both opponents are up by the volley line.. I got successful and put them both running to get the lob which opens up a lot room by volley line to put the return away... still gotta practice more to be perfect. .

Would you recommend doing a lob only when you can play the ball out of the air or after a bounce too? In your video I don’t think you ever show it off a bounce. Also, do you prefer aiming at the middle back or corners and why?
@primetimepickleball Жыл бұрын
When you take it out of the air and are close to the net they have less time to react and you can easily disguise it. You can do it off the bounce too if you’re precision is great. Go over their backhand shoulder as much as you can. Cross court is also easier as you have more space.

Is your swing speed on/through the lob the same as for a usual dink?
@primetimepickleball Жыл бұрын
No, you have to swing faster with a longer follow through since you're sending it a greater distance.

You demonstrate this on a dink volley, is it better to use it from a volley ?
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
Yes, because your opponent will have a much harder time reading it from a volley.

How does one defend this lob?
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
If you get caught with this lob, you’re probably going to have to try and run back to retrieve it. If you’re dealing with a habitual lobber, you have to anticipate well, and maybe play a few feet off the NVZ line.
@frank88ster3 ай бұрын
The lob to left corner ( backhand), is a 88% 'attacking lob'. Almost impossible to take. One can possibly control a safer defensive return with 'switching hands' as doing it with a back hand is very 'wristy' and a problem to return.

@mar5048 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's a lot of spinning. Gotta be unconscious, almost every break or start in hand motion gets a spinny. Does get somewhat distracting when I am trying to follow the path of your paddle and it keeps flipping around.
