I've spent over half a century in the backwoods and on many waters and always seem to find new and different methods to improve on old learning and habits .... Great instructional video. If you paddle 4-6 hours on a trip (as I often do) the normal J' can cause issues.

Yes, it’s always good to have different paddle strokes in your toolbox. One that’s easier on shoulders, one that’s easier on wrists…elbows.

Hey Lisa, if you were going to solo trip the allagash in a canoe, what canoe size and material would you use?

Luke depending on how much of the Allagash you do, there will be at least 2 portages..Churchill Dam and Allagash Falls. I’d go with a 16 foot as opposed to 17 foot or bigger. Materials, I’ve only ever had ABS boats. But I’d go with durability anyway.
