Yes sewing is a great skill to learn getting the right sewing machine can be a little challenging but it’s worth doing there is only so much interior work you can do without sewing but get in and give it a go it’s very satisfying to see the results of your own work

Great Inspiring videos!!. ..but tbh there's no real need for the annoying back ground music , ..its very irritating ..sorry & .just a thought , is it possible to possibly add more light on your subject. Such as a celling flood light , as some items are very hard to see, and make out what your actually doing. Also I use 1/8" PVC board ( available in 4x4 , or 4x8 sheets)to be a excellent replacement for older car carboard door panels, rear package trays boards etc as if the door panel itself should ever come in contact with a lot of water ..it will never ever deteriorate again just a thought

Where do you buy the staples? I can only find 6mm staples at Bunnings and Spotlight. I think I want 2mm or 3mm staples otherwise I go through the whole board.

Good video, but like so many other videos, kill the loud music. Many of us watch on large TV's with surround sound and the music volume is way to loud. Besides, it distracts from the reason for the video.

I noticed some lines in the old panel. Are they embossed? Or was it a plastic cover molded design. Do you have any videos on embossing lines or design? I'd be interested in those tutorials.
@SamsProjectBench
@SamsProjectBench 3 жыл бұрын
The old cover had welded embossed lines. These are put in with a high frequency welder these are specialty equipment used to weld PVC based materials and are not common in the diy environment. I haven’t done any tutorials on this specifically my preferred method is to sew lines into the material with the foam already glued to the materials embossing is not always practical due to the amount of work and time required but if a certain look is required it can be done otherwise it usually gets sewn or a back taking method is used I have some door trims to do on my Nissan patrol coming up I should be able go into further depth in video once into the process

If you did not know, you can purchase a spray can with tacking glue similar to the glue you used with your spray gun. I've used it to re-upholster chairs but not door cards, but it should work. The glue can be purchased at any craft store or online. Otherwise, it's a cool idea to use basic upholstering technique to create door card. One question: Why not fill in the defects before recovering the door panel?
@SamsProjectBench
@SamsProjectBench 2 жыл бұрын
I have tried a couple of the cans of glue it’s just my preference to use the spray gun. You could fill in the defects but this was just a demonstration panel never to be used on the car so no need to spend the time on it.

Just a quick question?? Won’t the 10mm foam push all the fittings out too , as my doors don’t have it !! TIA
@SamsProjectBench
@SamsProjectBench Жыл бұрын
10mm foam can push things outward. You will need to test to your fittings will be able to compress the foam enough to still work. If this doesn’t work you can cut small sections of foam out. You can also get thinner foam it typically comes in 3mm size increments. 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm and so on

@patrickchristie82

Is there a way to do a diamond pattern head liner without stitching?
@SamsProjectBench
@SamsProjectBench 3 жыл бұрын
You could possibly lay a Diamond stencil underneath and lay the fabric over top for an embossed look. Depending on what type of head line you could possibly look at diamond tufting/ deep diamond buttoning. I did a Kenworth truck sleeper cab using this method years back but it’s not for the faint hearted. Stitching diamonds is probably your best bet this is usually my preferred method

This was from the rear barn door of my Nissan patrol the door open mechanism is on the side and the window doesn’t open but this technique still works well on doors that do have these,. You will need to allow for these cut outs and position the joins accordingly 👍

Does it hold if you don't staple the edges on the back?
@SamsProjectBench

It always holds better if you can pull the materials around and staple them on the back there are some circumstances where you can get away without stapling behind but it is typically my preference to staple them on the back 👍
