Hello, interesting rules and conversation practice. A question, how is versatile pronounced?
@ExtraEnglishPractice
@ExtraEnglishPractice 11 ай бұрын
Hi! In our accent, we would say: vers-a-del (the first syllable is stressed, so the schwa vowel sound is used in the second and third syllables)

I'm glad I found your channel. You ladies have some great videos. Thank you for publishing valuable content in an entertaining and concise manner. What is the rule for pronouncing words with double consonants in the middle and ending in 'e'? Example: Belline. Is the 'e' short or long?
@ExtraEnglishPractice
@ExtraEnglishPractice 8 ай бұрын
We're glad you like our videos! Usually the vowel before a double consonant would be short.
@RitaCory
@RitaCory 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! How about the 'i'? Does it become short? This word is one of debate among my friends. Some make the 'i' short, and others pronounce the 'i' long. You could be settling a long-time bet. LOL@@ExtraEnglishPractice

This was so helpful guys ❤️ i just wanted to ask you about the pronunciation of the work NIKE, why is the E pronounced at the end? Is there a rule for it?
@ExtraEnglishPractice
@ExtraEnglishPractice 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! But I don't have a great answer. It's unusual pronunciation. I think it's not originally English (maybe Greek?), so it doesn't follow English pronunciation patterns.

@ExtraEnglishPractice

"More" means you have a larger amount of something, and "moor"is a piece of open land (not a common word).

@@ExtraEnglishPractice Do they sound the same? I mean pronunciation. moor VS more tore VS tour
@ExtraEnglishPractice
@ExtraEnglishPractice 5 жыл бұрын
In American English, there is very little difference between the pronunciation of these words. In British English, the vowel in moor is closer to the vowel in blue.

@@ExtraEnglishPractice Thank you for your help, now I got it. You are great! May I ask you another question? The /T/ and /d/ is aspirated at the beginning of words and stressed syllables, such as task desk attack address. The /t/ and /d/ is unaspirated at the end of words and unstressed syllables, such as bet bed after daddy. (Allophone) Is it right or wrong?
@ExtraEnglishPractice
@ExtraEnglishPractice 5 жыл бұрын
You're correct. In general, these sounds will be aspirated at the beginning of a word or stressed syllable. This is also true for the /k/ and /p/.

Long vowel sounds are usually only present in a stressed syllable. In this word, the second syllable is stressed, so the vowel sound in the first syllable is a schwa.
