Hey, hey, Leets. Question for ya. Where do you get your audio for your RPG sessions? Do you use it frequently or sparingly? Let me know below.

I have only tried using audio a few times and it was mediocre at best. I'll look into these tools and see if it may help things.

Came here to see if Tabletop Audio and Michael Gelfi were mentioned and i wasnt disappointed. Its AMAZING that these folks are doing this, because its way easier than drudging through a lot of ambient music and soundtracks. Thankfully we have that option still, but its nice to have things like this for less prep! One thing i do is organize my music by mood category playlists when they are hosted on youtube. My more ambitious ideas are to write my own music for games, but that has been a good bit of work!

I love both of those guys. There are others which I could cover in another video, but these guys are what I consider the top of the pile, especially MG. That guy is a beast.

@@RPGElite I would have killed to have those resources, categorized as well as they are, and as much as they cover back in the day. Can only play nightwish and LOTR soundtracks so much before they become trite. What's your opinion about writing your own music for games? I'm trying to come up with "quick and simple" ways to generate ambient tracks. Its def on the side of "more prep" side of GMing, but coming up with a leitmotif "theme" for a character or the group and using that through play is something ive dreamed about. Its got to be difficult to pay off, but its got so much potential!

IMHO Some of the most awesome African heritage musicians to get a really enchanting feel for the Fantasy Genre with something that might resonate with you too: "Korla Pandit" & especially this famous Egyptian Nubian dude name "Hamza el Din". I totally recommend you listen to some of that and see how you like them.

Never successfully used audio in a session. Always too busy otherwise. I am very old school: first started playing DnD in 80 or 81. Maybe one of these days. Cool guide to resources

Curating music for RPGs is really a skill of it's own and I think it's best to have a player volunteer as DJ because I find it distracts from regular game master duty and breaks the flow of the game if I have to stop and "change channels". That said I do have a huge collection of music I load up on my phone but I only use it for battles. Basil poledouris' Conan score of course leads the way for fantasy, and speed metal for post apocalyptic Ruin Nation

Running in a VTT, you can preload music to fit a certain situation. For example, when players entering a certain area, sounds or music will play automatically according to what you set up before the session. You can also do playlists ahead of time for certain scenes so when the session comes, it's the click of a button. It also can be done for a live session with something like Syrinscape. It's part of the prep stage . Even if you do things on the fly, you can load up sounds and music beforehand and then pop them when needed.
