Some people in the comments got shocked with my calldowns vs recreationals and requested more information. I think that's fair since I am in fact recommending you make these types of calls in the video. Here is the screenshot of the amount of bluffs recreationals have in this line: gyazo.com/3845be646d7aa1d2b9ffbb4674702ca7. It's from a software called H2N, the best one for studying population tendencies. What matters in the screenshot is the "40 weak". What this means is that, over the 2398 hands that recreationals went to showdown in this line, they showed up with a hand equal to low pair or worse 40% of the time. This means that any middle pair is enough to calldown in this line, considering that you will usually need only 25% equity or less to call on the river given how much is left behind. And more - not only its enough, its extremely profitable! If we imagine a 50bb river jam into a 100bb pot, then EV(call) = 40% X 150 - 60% X 50 => you win 150bbs (pot + bet) 40% of the time and lose 50bbs (your call) 60% of the time. EV(call) = 60 - 30 = 30bbs! You are winning 30bbs everytime you call. Yes, you won't win all the time - in fact you will lose more than you will win (60% x 40%). But the times you win far compensate the times you lose. That's the magic of pot odds 😃 I don't recommend plays out of nowhere. What you will see me teaching, particularly when it's about recreational players, comes from a strategic gameplan I've crafter over 6 years of studying population tendencies. That's why I'm comfortable making these calls - because I've studied the behaviour of recreational players off the tables. And I do this by analyzing data over millions of hands. The screenshot above comes from a Database of over 150 million hands of cash games, from 50nl to High Stakes. Hope that clarifies the calls! GL everyone

In your calculation however you don’t take into account the bets on the previous streets, only the river bet. Would this increase or decrease EV? Flop call is usually good probably, but your middle pair is vulnerable by the river. Could you perhaps show such a calculation?

Salve, Saulo! Essa linha vs recreativos só vale pra spots 3betados? Ou devemos dar call down em any spot vs recs? Ajuda demais! Abração!

Hey Saulo! I admire your work, and do follow your guidance. Let me ask you something though. If you play on GGPoker though, you would just rely on pure GTO? Because no HUD is allowed and GG stats are likely or sometimes even totally unreliable? Do you think that GTO still beat an 8 BB/100 rake NL200 pool?

I find the click-raise bluff pattern interesting. I suspect it's because rec players' first instinct is to slowplay strong hands on the flop, then raise turn (which is why we need to overfold vs rec turn raises), which weakens their flop raising range.

If you are playing with a HUD then they are easy to spot. They would have a high VPIP and there is a massive number gap between their VPIP and PFR and they often have a low 3b% and aggression frequency. Other tells are not playing with a full stack.

In the TT hand where you say that maybe QJ or QT would be a better bluff, how often would you take that line with those? I imagine that sometimes you are double barreling to get some folds or a more credible river bluff, especially if you c-bet 15% all the Kx are still there I think.

@saulocostapoker
@saulocostapoker Жыл бұрын
The most important thing is to study player profiles off the tables to know what to do against people, even if you have little information. The most important data point against recreationals is their VPIP, as a quick and simple rule, the higher their VPIP the more you can call them down. Hope that helps!

@@saulocostapokerShouldn't we consider the PFR as well instead of just looking at the Vpip? More specifically at the gap between PFR and Vpip? Like, a 40/5 rec should play significantly more passive postflop than a 40/30 rec, even though they have the same Vpip, they should require very different exploits. Or am I missing something?
@kristoffernilsson6043
@kristoffernilsson6043 11 ай бұрын
@@keniffkeniff That doesnt have to be true, the 40/5 stats just means that he's more passive preflop. Alot of those guys amp up the aggression post flop because now they know you cant "3bet" their openings before the flop or whatever logic they use to be passive preflop. Basically the typical rec will slowplay to much and try steal the pot when he has nothing. You ofc need some kind of a hand to call down but the principle remains the same, the problem is though that we all have feelings and we dont like to lose money and feel like a fool. This is the hardest step to overcome if you wanna play poker for a living or make money. You have to be ok with losning some of these spots, because in the long run you print money on spots like these. Hope that helps clear it up abit, i am not on Saulo Costas lvl, but i play poker for a living and doing allright.

It would be nice if you could show counter examples of your exploits and actual stats on how often it works and doesn't work, instead of showing the same example 4 times as if it always worked and villain never hits when you call down with 66 on 3 overcards - it seems a little missleading to me

Hi Paulo, is the 5bb winrate captured before rakeback? And is it on Pokerstars (I'm assuming it is because a few of the regs shown in the HH play on it)? Just curious because a few different sites will often yeild different winrates due to rake, pool tendencies etc.

Mr Saulo if we have a read that the fish is passive from another pot, lets say he checks to the river IP in a SRP with a gutter and has J high, would this read overpower the fact that fish are very aggro IP in 3BP when they min click back at the flop?
@saulocostapoker
@saulocostapoker Жыл бұрын
I don't remember the last time I adjusted to a fish based on showdown. Fish are unpredictable, I don't think you can argue that them showing down a weak hand means they will underbluff. What I in fact do is adjust my strategy based on the fish VPIP. Fish with low VPIP do tend to bluff less, so vs those I might fold more. Hope that helps!

Constructive criticism: This should have been 2-3 videos; not only giving examples and a graph, but far more importantly, concepts and context. For example, on the topic of playing a purely exploitative strategy against Recreationals: 1) They want to win single pots; not long-term / mathematically. 2) They do not understand what to do. 3) They are far too loose Preflop; results: A) They have to call down lighter with marginal hands. B) They have to over-bluff, as they rarely make a strong hand, with their range. 4) They especially love to bluff on paired boards, where they should play more conservatively. 5) They give sizing ( and timing ) tells, all the time; - more often than not, their bets are too small, especially on the turn. - There is of course more to say; especially for individual hands. So: " You are not wrong. " - However, without more concrete explanations, a lot of the video about exploiting Recs and bad Regs can become rather bad advice.

It's strange to count pot odds in this specific line. If you are decided you pay for stack and then losing on river 60% of the time, it means in total u lost ur stack 60% of the time, and win stack 40% which is obviously minus EV

@saulocostapoker
@saulocostapoker Жыл бұрын
I think it's close. Recs float and raise a lot vs small bets, so this reduces the EV of low equity hands. At the same time if you check, they stab a bit too much so you get to the turn less often, which decreases the EV of checking a low equity hand. I generally go with my guts about that particular player, but checking hoping to get a check back and bluff turns is a fine approach imo.

What was your reads though … and honestly clearly your a solid player ty for the footage but if your giving tips you have to be transparent to the viewers … seriously … those hands you did win … but with them lines taken and the light call down you have had to lose way more than won in those spots .. you can’t just call down every street with underpants that’s a losing strategy against any player .. I’m winning at 50 Nl and have attempted to play bigger and not succeeded … however I do know that calling down so light consistanty is -ev … and thank you for the footage I just don’t want viewers to think because your playing against a bad player you just keep calling down with multiple over cars because you have a pair … I do have a fundamentals sound approach .. I’m not a gto wizard but I play a theoretical strategy as far as range construction bet sizing continuation betting and board textures and the mathematical appropriate bluffing frequencies … and with the players who are bad I know they can end up on the river with tons of trash hands … but when they are going all in you have to know their stats .. their attempt to steal are they over bluffing and so off balance that you call down 75 percent of the hands and still be profitable .. we can’t just say I am playing a fish and I have pocket tens so I’m calling down no matter what .. that’s a losing strategy honestly just please give the viewer the thought as why this play is profitable for the specific recreational … blind followers can end up losing tons of money like this
