Don't put retired why? There is retirement income and there is retirement savings. Retired people can have one or the other or both and SS to add to a good pension. I've recieved 2 c hase cards after watching. Retired and when asked about employment on application just clicked "other" and included income. Recieved the CSR with 31k limit and CFU. I may be retired but I have a 840 and 43 years of credit history. If you have the means to pay for what you charge, apply for it.
