Hi! I wanted to share what happened to me, a credit newbie, after I applied to my second card, in case it helps someone else. So, I would say I have excellent credit usage. I try to keep my credit utilization at 1%, though for about my first six months I had it at 0% because I thought that would help (figured out it may not be as good as 1%, so I increased it), and have never had a missed payment, etc. My score got up to a 771 in my first year. Then, I decided to apply for my second credit card. I was approved. My score dropped by a whopping 50 points! I was not expecting that. I've watched so many of these sorts of videos and was expecting a 5, maybe 10, point decrease. Nope, 50 points. Decreased me to a 721. Six months later (now), my FICO is a 736 and my Vantage 3.0 is a 724. This is the closest in score my FICO model 8 and Vantage 3.0 scores were so similar! When my FICO was at like 771 my Vantage 3.0 was much smaller. So, I guess it's good that my credit score is going up? Even if I took a 50 point hit, before? Just wanted to warn the credit newbies who have excellent credit. Prepare for a decently big hit, just keep doing your best, and expect it to improve over time.

It IS annoying booking through a travel portal but on Chase, you get x5 if you do. But I HAVE indeed had some tough moments but… they worked out. However, it was tough to sort it all out.

Booking through the Chase portal is more expensive so no saving there

I work for an airline and yes when you book other than with airlines for most airlines we have to collect a fee to collect a fee to take control over the tickets. And there are so many rules we have to follow. I have and use Amex but I always transfer to the airline and book directly. I’d say if you use a travel portal be 100 percent sure you have the dates and won’t make changes and always contact your booking source first. Or if you find a great deal you can’t pass up just be understanding that nothing is guaranteed with travel and please be nice to the reservations agents we just have to follow rules to keep our jobs 😆

You can also use C1 miles to “erase” any travel purchases inside or outside the portal at 1 cent per mile. So the 10k anniversary points are a legit $100 minimum value.

I wish amex would let me refer people to my platinum and aspire but they removed my referrals for a couple years now. I can only refer to the delta reserve and marriott brilliant. (Also the cs platinum but its a horrible referral)

I thought you only get Amex Plat $200 hotel credit when book at least “2 nights stay” at their hotel collection.
